man, I was really expecting it to be way more graphically demanding. I'm still updating my graphics card to play Halo. so, I should have no problem. because I have directX 9.0 b(or c, can't remember)

I finally picked this game up and played again. I forgot how much I love Half Life 2. The puzzles are just so impressive some times!! Anyway the game seems to be getting extremely action packed right now and involves a lot more strategy. I am currently on the level with the huge walking spiders that shoot out of their private area. Sure made it interresting when there were 3 of them and they kill you within a couple shots. It was a decent idea to have a squad that I could control but they sure were worthless!
My favorite parts in the few levels that I did recently was setting up the turrets to kill whoever came by them. That was great fun. I set them up in a triangle around me and no one could even get close. :sly: Well except the occasional grenade. :dunce: :)
The walking spiders level has been soooo fun!!!! I was looking forward to fighting those since I bought the game but I had no idea when I would have been able to finally see them.

Thats where I was last. Hate that level. Havent played it in over a month. I prolly should get back to the game so I can finally say I beat the game. :D

I am not sure how close I am to beating the game since I try to avoid all spoilers but I did finally beat the spiders that were out in the open. ONce you go to a certain place it is very easy to beat them. I found this "place" after about 30 minutes of dying non stop. I wont tell you any more than that in case you are trying to avoid spoilers. :)
This has been one of the best FPS I have played in my life.

I still have the final level to beat, then afterwards, I'm done. But I'm to scared to play it.

I don't know what to expect.
Camaroboy, you remember that giant bug creature in the Prison?
I think 2 of them pop up. D*mn, those were scary and tough.

I dont even have any idea how far I am from the end of the game since im trying to avoid spoilers.

Yeah I remember seeing 3 of those creatures so far. One on the beach with the ant lions and 2 in the prison. My largest fear are those screaming fast zombie things. I just get terrified of them and the eerie sound they make. :scared: :scared:

Here is a video I found online of someone using the physics from Half Life 2 to make dominoes. Dominos in Half Life 2

That was pretty neat. I remember some one posting that in the Comedy corner.

I just beat the game. 19 hours and 31 minutes total. :) I still say this is the best FPS I have ever played. The last level is absolutely sick and a lot easier than I expected! :)

Now I have to go play the last level. :sly:
Yes you should. It is completely different than the rest of the game. Wait till you see what happens to your gravity gun! :sly:
I plan on playing the last level a few more times for sure. Its just that good.

I think the last level was purely for all that eye-candy. Sounds like the expansion pack is well underway with Day of Defeat: Source just right around the corner. Oh man, good things to be expected this summer. :)

I finally beat HL2 yesterday. The ending kinda sucked but I'm enjoyed it. Cant wait for the expansion. I plan on going through this game again. ;)

Have any of you seen the new source game called portal yet? This game is looking very cool.

LINK

You have to watch the trailer for sure, to get an idea of how cool this game will be, and yes this is a PS3 site, and you guessed it, HL2 and the expansions EP1 & 2 pluss this are coming to the 360 and PS3 apparently all in one pack.

I thought that looked really dull at first, but after watching the whole trailer i can see it really works. Should be quite fun :)

I finally got round to getting this game. I wish I had done it earlier, it looks awesome. I have been playing it all weekend and am currently driving the buggy across the beach. So far the game has been really hard to put down!

Yes it really is a great game. I beat it on PC, played 90% through on the xbox version, and I will buy it for the 360 when it comes out. 👍
Play throught the entire game because it gets better and better each level. The last couple levels are sooo much fun. Then after you play that get Half Life 2: Episode 1.

Will do.

The only thing that peeved me, was that I could play the demo at 1024x768 but I have to play the game at 800x600 otherwise it gets quite jerky.

Really?! You are missing out if you are playing in 800x600. Thats disappointing to hear. You really wont be able to enjoy Episode 1. :scared: :scared:
What PC do you have? Half life 2 usually doenst require much to run in the highest settings.

That's what I thought.

PC:
AMD Athlon64 3200+
512mb RAM
Saphire Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb

Perhaps I had too many processes in the background. I'll try it again tonight,

When you say "processes in the backround" do you mean you had other programs running? When you play you should make sure everything else is turned off and do whatever it takes to get out of that 600x800 even if you have to cut down on some of the other graphic settings. Hopefully it was because of the processes you were talking about.
Your current set up definetly wont run Episode 1 on the highest settings.
All the pics I posted above were with my old pc on the highest settings and it ran great.

At the higher resolutions it really does look gorgeous. 1280x1024

Any way it is a great game, I've had it for ages and I've completed it a good few times.

Do you have any suggestions for DQ and his curent PC? What do you think he can upgrade so he gets the most out of Half Life 2 and Episode 1?

There are loads of things that I want to upgrade, but as my motherboard is not PCI-Express, it would be better to go for a whole new build. This is something that I don't have money for at the moment, but plan to do in the future.

Having said that, an X1600 Pro 512mb and an upgrade to 1GB of ram might be a worthwhile investment.

I will try it again, without other users logged on, and i'll also close things like Anti-Virus. Hopefully that'll get me going. I also had all the settings on high, so maybe i could turn them down a bit as you suggested. It is strange though, that the demo worked fine with everything on full.

A new motherboard would be a wise purchase if you are planning to play future PC games like Crysis, as you'll probably be better off with a PCI-Express Graphics card.

The card I have now is an X1600XT, it's really very good. I can play Oblivion on High settings, Half-life 2, and BF2 as well. It's really cheap now too, it was £120 when I bought it :grumpy:

On the latter levels, it doesn't run that smoothly even on 800x600. It doesn't take away from the joy of the game though. I love it.

I am currently running through City 17 with other members of the resistance.

My girl was round last night so i didn't get much playing time in. Damn her wanting sex all the time! I have just helped Barney out by chucking grenades at the snipers and I'm about to follow him out. I wonder where we go next!
