I havent replied in here since the night we bought Halo 3 after the Midnight release a week ago. I posted those pics in Pakos thread.
We have already been through the 4 player co-op campaign over 5 times. No joke. It is just that fun especially on Legendary. Having the entire week off paid with vacation time helped. And also a couple very late nights until 5 AM. lol My favorite level in the campaign is Covenant.
Bottom line is that Halo 3 has been an incredible game to say the least. The graphics look great if you have a high end HDTV. If you dont have an HDTV then the graphics wont look good at all. You wont even be able to see the water ripple effects.
The fact that it saves EVERY game you play in the multiplayer and in the co-op campaign is just impossible to comprehend.
We also found about 6 skulls. One of them is called Grunt Party. With Grunt Party on it if you shoot a grunt in the head it explodes just like a Pinata in Viva Pinata. It even sprays out colorful confetti and cheers out loud. Very entertaining.
This is definetly one of the best multiplayer experiences we have had in any online game. The most I have seen online was over 600,000. Thats insane!! 👍👍

After playing it most of Friday and all of Saturday, here is my opinion:
Holy f-ing awesome. Way better than Halo 2, and nearly back to the greatness of Halo. The map editor is very tweakable considering how simple it seems and is to use. The multiplayer is now just as good as it was on Halo, perhaps even better due to the added vehicles and better balanced weapons (yet still short of the Battlefield series). And the Single player is way better than it was in Halo 2. 4 Player co-op can make fun times.
Now for the bad:
The graphics are not as good as GoW or BioShock. The Single player campaign fell apart towards the end. The 4 player co-op makes the game both too hectic and too easy, even on legendary. The single player, at its peak, is not as good as it is in BioShock or GoW.
So, overall, I would rate them like this:
BioShock in front, due to how amazing the single player was. The GoW, due to the greatness of its single player coupled with the decentness of the multiplayer. Then Halo 3 ties with GoW, due to how much better the multiplayer was over GoW, yet the single player was a bit disappointing in comparison to GoW.

And how long did that take you and how many times did you die trying to get through it?

It was about an hour and a half, and I think I died about 5-10 times. Thank goodness for those checkpoints, because I would have been livid trying to do that whole section without dieing.

So how many active Halo 3 players do we have in here? I'd love to get a big team battle going, maybe some Rocket Race or whatever.

Blackbird5150 right here I'm on matchmaking pretty much everday. Send me a friend request if you're interested.

Same here.

The ranking system is so different from Halo 2. If I understand it correcty, the Spartan Ranks are available to everyone and only dictate how long you've been playing. The leveling though, while still confusing to me, seems to be based on how well you do.

The Skill Number relates to ranked games specifically, where you are matched with opponents that are of your skill. The rank itself, is based on how many EXP points you've attained. 1 EXP point is given when you win a match.

And I guess two finished matches that you lose equals one EXP. Since I just played two painfully crappy games of Big Team Battle and lost both of them but gained 1 EXP.

It really is too bad they took out the SWAT playlists. SWAT Classic is the only playlist I was really good at so I'm struggling with Team Slayer, currently i'm bouncing between skill level 16 and 17 right now.

Turn the skulls on and I guarantee you will never say its too easy again. There are I believe 6-8 gold skulls and each one increases the difficulty to the point where its almost impossible to beat even with 4 players. Find those skulls and turn them on then try to replay the game on legendary with points on. Good luck. lol

My girlfriend and I are on almost every day or every chance we can get. For the next few weeks we will be very busy working on real life car projects but after that we will be active online again for the entire winter.

Well, there's 9 Gold Skulls, and 4 Silver Skulls. The Silver Skulls are mainly for entertainment, where as the Gold ones crank up the difficulty by varying degrees. I have beat an entire act on Normal with all 9 Gold Skulls enabled, though. It was insanely difficult.

I'm just trying to get to an officer ranking so I can get the Rogue helmet.

That was exactly my point. Toronado mentioned this game was too easy. Now imagine all the skulls on with the difficulty on Legendary. Then have him say its too easy.

How the hell are you guys doing well online? Most of the matches I'm playing now with ranked 6-8 Team Slayer are killing me from all angles almost instantly - and usually I can't turn around very quickly. The aim isn't quite right for me either - it's too sensitive with the sniper (so I'm usually overshooting them and they get me instead), and when I do turn the sensitivity down, it aims way too slowly. It's becoming quite frustrating.

It's not as if I'm not used to the controlls yet - I've just completed the campaign on Heroic, and quite enjoyed it.

And FYI (SPOILER WARNING) at the end of the ending credits there is a cutscene of The Cheif floating around in the rear part of the ship he escaped from on from the Halo. Thought I'd let anyone know because people tend to skip the credits or not pay attention to them. It could possibly open up a new storyline...

.

I try to play with friends I know around the same rank as me if I do team slayer. Communication is key in team games. I have my sensitivity at 7 just like in Halo 2 and it seems perfect. If you are sniping just use your left stick once zoomed out otherwise it will be way to hard to shoot someone. Learning each map and weapon location is key too just like any other game. Ranked games will help a lot because it will try to match you with people of your skill. Thats the one area where halo 2 always shined and Halo 3 is doing the same thing. Still no other game out there that matches peoples skill as well as Halo 2 and Halo 3 do it. 👍
If you play unranked you could be against anyone of any rank. ALso if your sick of one mode or lose a lot in it, try another mode to take a break. Also watch your radar. Those little red dots are enemies.

Yes... I recently notice that too and it started to help.

I tried doing Lone Wolf matches, but it doesn't seem to find any players after waiting for 5 minutes. I'll probably have better luck next time.

The best way to kill someone almost instantly up close is the melee button. If you have a sshotgun and your up close follow your shot with a melee. Its the B buton. Another thing to remember is to think smart. If your not good at sniping, dont run out crazy into the open with a sniper gun. You will die instantly. Stay inside or close to edges with the shotgun. Watch your radar and shotgun people when they are close. I suck at sniping so I try to stay out of the open. I usually get most of my kills in close quarters. Lots of melees.
Oh if it doesnt match you right away in lone wolfs back out and come back in and try again. You will be starting as a level 1 so it might take a little while in lone wolfs to find a match.

Okie dokie, thanks for the advice. 👍

I never played Halo 2 online, so I suppose the lack of experience with that isn't helping at all. I'll have to experiment with the sensitivity controls a little more too.

90% of my kills are melee. If I'm using the assult rifle, I just keep shooting and run at them and melee as soon as I get to them and they die :D Same with shotgun. One shot with shotgun + melee = instant death.

I think I am around the same stats. Last time I looked I had 203 melees out of 96 matchmaking games. lol
Dont forget that anyone can check their stats from any games with this link. http://www.bungie.net/stats/default.aspx Go there then put your name in where it sais people finder. It will give you everything for the campaign and the multiplayer. Even your saved screen shots will be there and you can download peoples forge maps that they made right from your computer. Then when you turn on your 360 it will automatically DL their maps. Not sure how it works but its amazing.

Check out this review of Halo 3. He's got a bunch of audio reviews of games accompanied by flash animations. They're hilarious. He's got a new review up each week and this week it's Halo 3:

I'm playing through Halo 3 at the moment and I'm really enjoying. The graphics are very nice (to me anyway, and regardless of what technical mumbo jumbo nerdy pixel counters may tell me about resolutions and frame buffers). But there's nothing really exceptional about it so far. I'd just recently restarted playing the original Halo on PC and it's really just more of the same. Just prettier graphics and a few extra features.

But I'm a sucker for FPS games and lots of shooting and blowing stuff up in video games and it's done very well for what it is. Which is a lot of fun.

KM.

Do you happen to know if there's any chart out there that tells you how many EXP is needed to up your level and rank?

Yeah I kind of do. This links to my current rank but it shows the required EXP to go to the top. here you go. For the ranks that I've already gotten just mouse over them and it will tell you the required EXP. Hope it helps.

Hilarious video.

Anyway, I think the guns should be made more powerful perhaps. When a game consists of running around with fully automatic assault rifles, but then 90% of everyone's kills are from using it to inflict blunt force trauma, something's wrong.

Hah, this guy is fantastic. The rundown of the console wars is pretty great, too.

Agreed. I'm too used to using a gun to kill someone in other online games.
