HANS device in cockpit view

was looking through some replays today when I noticed my driver wasn't wearing the HANS device even though profile view shows he was. Is this common, or does he only wear it in certain cars?

I think it requires proper racing harnesses to work properly so the driver would not use it for cars with normal 2 or 3-point belts.

On a side note:

An option to toggle the presence of HANS for profile pictures with the standard Arai helmets would be nifty.
(No HANS with the Simpson helmets as the models don't seem to have the secure points.)

I doubt you really could notice that the driver didn't wear the uniform you think he was supposed to do with? Just as far as I can be sure, the driver's costume can't be altered as to what car he's to ride in.

The glitch suit changes color depending on the car's manufacturer.

Hans device is only required in F1, Euro GT and Nascar(as far as race series in gt5) to my knowledge. On a side this does remind me that there are a couple cars that are old enough that they actually wouldn't have seatbelts IRL. The 69 Z28 is one if i'm not mistaken.

67-69 camaro's had lap belts. The last year passenger cars didn't have seatbelts (in the US) was 1966 model year.

Had a quick peek in game earlier with the premium Audi RS6 and Ferrari F40 in arcade mode.

The Audi with its normal 3-point belts does not feature HANS.

The Ferrari with its harness does use HANS though it mostly clips into the seat's 3D model.

It may not be visble in outside views too, perhaps it is part of the interior LOD tweaks so you can only see it with the special replay interior camera angles.

So my theory that only certain cars have it is right.

Going to look for more cars that does outfit the device. Kind of worried that Bob's head bobs about when taking a corner, haha!

Many racing sanctioning bodies require a SFI 38.1 head/neck restraint system, not just the ones you listed. It's actually common place to see HANS type devices at track day events... as long as the proper harness is used. As said by others, SFI 38.1 devices are of no use when regular lap & shoulder (3 point) belts are used. That may be why they don't show up in GT5 for non-harness equipped cars.
