Okay, I live in South Auckland, yes. But I live in a suburb called Papatoetoe (don't start, please) the poorest part of Auckland is Otara, which is a 10 min drive from where I am.
Wellington does have a poor area, Porirua, I went to The Warehouse when I was down there and I swear it was just like home.
And quite often these 'poor' areas are just areas full of Pacific Islanders, which in all fairness and without any racist intention, have no ability to get decent jobs because they can't learn.

Yes, Porirua is poor, and is full of Islanders but it has a good go karting place and a mental hospital (keep em out there )
And from my experience, a lot of Islanders and Maoris have trouble concentrating in class.
And Upper Hutt is another poor area, one of the poorest in the country if my memory serves me right.
