Hi guys....sorry I couldn't resist a bit of innuendo. Anyway, as we all know, many people like to gently scrape past the other racers cars. Thats fine, but how hard should you be allowed to bump or scrape someone before it becomes ramming? Just wanted to hear your opinions :D
My personal opinion is that if the Car you touch needs to apply any form of opposite lock, it's to hard.....sorry this post sounds so wrong lol

lol I bump and purposely crash into all the cars to make them lose... But that's offline. I don't do that online. I like to be a fair player. As long as you don't crash into me purposely in order to make me lose.

For me it get hostile as soon as you start to make me lose control in the bends or spin out, lose speed, get out of the track etc. If the bump is gently enough that I can keep my speed and not get penalized by it then I'm ok with it.

No side-to-side contact should ever be on purpose. The only contact that should happen are accidents and if you're executing a bump-draft on a super-speedway.

So what's the script on accidentally powersliding into someone, I did it last night at the pitstop chicane and felt quite bad about it :(.

Since I only run NASCAR cars at Daytona and Indy, I can only give my point of view from that perspective. I don't mind rubbing at all. Matter of fact, I welcome it. My team and I practice it just to see how hard is too hard. Too hard to me is at the point where you have to take evasive action. Example, pushing you on the side so hard that your car becomes hard to control. At that point, I usually say something and if they don't back off, then it becomes apparent that they are intentionally trying to take me out as it pretty much takes a big rub or push to take me out. Also, people that use wheels can pretty much handle more rubbing as opposed to those who use a controller for the most part. I try not to bump or rub anyone on a controller as the results are only going to be bad for the most part. Unless, of course, its the last lap at Daytona going into turns 3 and 4, then I will push or lean on you a little harder. I won't try to take you out tho, just try to upset your car alittle. Your question runs a fine tho as it differs from person to person. Baisically, if its too hard of a bump for you, just calmly say something and usually they will back off alittle as not to cause an accident.

Nice title 👍

I dont mind rubbing (in a GT5 sense) at all, as long as both cars are trying to leave the other car space to stay on the tarmac. It becomes ramming if there is too much force involved or the victim car is squeezed off the track.

This.
There should never be contact. If there is contact, enough to bump them off their line, then you're doing it wrong.

I have to disagree with you on the side to side contact. If you can't handle alittle side rubbing, then you don't belong on the track. Rubbing is racing my friend. Get used to it or don't race. And I must add, I am one of the cleanest racers you will find but A LITTLE contact is just part of the game. Don't believe me, just watch the NASCAR race today. I guarantee you will see contact...even your dreaded side contact.

The world doesn't revolve around NASCAR.

In some road course racing events, it's illegal to have ANY body contact.

And in a computer game that has online lag, a slight tap on your screen, can translate to a catastrophic, race destroying, hit on the other person's screen.

Like I said, contact is part of the game. Just have to be careful not to cross the line. If you can't handle it, then keep you skirt on and stay in the stands.

Oh I can handle it... in the game and in real life. Just saying, it shouldn't happen. Be in control, or stay in the stands. :)

Daan - Agree 100%

Never said it did. Read my first post carefully. I am giving my opinion from a NASCAR point of view. Read before you comment my friend.

It's the host that sets the rules. If he says no contact, contact is certainly not part of the game, and the person making contact will be the one put in the stands.

I'm of the opinion that no purposeful contact should ever be made, but I know that it will probably happen by accident.

LOL, I am in PERFECT control, don't worry about that.

Well, like I said, I'm giving you my point of view from a NASCAR stand point and I guess you guys don't race NASCAR much. No, I don't know how this applies to other types of racing so I will just leave it at that as I don't feel like debating this all day long. Going to watch the race now. Peace.

Hey, accidents happen! In my opinion: if you "talked" it out the the party you hit, or at least tried to apologize, then move on. :)

Oh, I love contact to be honest. I personally do. Don't misunderstand my response. Controlling 1300-1600kg cars with 300-700+hp is impossible to not slip and you get some rubbing. Hence, the contact on purpose statement. I'm sure you don't go into turn 3 thinking, "I'm going to rub the side of the car that I'm going on the inside of". If it happens, it happens, it IS a part of the game. It should never be premeditated- that's not rubbing, that's reckless. I would love to spend a few hours in a NASCAR lobby with some clean racing accompanied with some clean body contact- in regards to the cars. Unfortunately, as someone stated, NASCAR body contact rules doesn't really convert across all of road racing- and I'm a huge NASCAR fan!

My overall response is based on the OLR which clearly states:

"05: Rules Governing Car Contact:

A:
Contacts and collisions must be avoided at all costs.

B:
Pushing other cars in turns or pushing them off the track is strictly prohibited.

C:
Leaning on other cars is strictly prohibited in any situation."

That's why I like to keep a online etiquette... I know it's frustrating for people to get kicked out of the track because of lag so I always try to keep contact to a minimum. Only accidental taps at most.

This is how i see it. I got a very small touch when i raced ring yesterday, but it still sent me straight off track. I like too race as if it was real :)

I like a good hard rub now and then, ooer missus !

I don't think the odd rub here and there bothers people it's when it causes you to lose control that cheeses me off. I usually scream "vendetta" down the microphone and wait for the bar steward on the next lap.

I never take it personally !

I always try to avoid any contacts. Yesterday at Tokyo, this Evo overtakes me right before the first turn. So stupid though because he went right infront of me outside from the inside right before the turn. I didn't have a second to brake all of the sudden, then boom, he kissed the wall.

Ok, my last words on rubbing, as far as NASCAR racing is concerned. And before you say it, I know you can't compare this game with real life, but you get the point I'm trying to make and my point of view on rubbing. The last lap of todays NASCAR race. Two cars, they bumped, they rubbed and nobody wrecked going for the finish. Was it intentional, you bet it was. Just enough rubbing to try to upset they other guys line. Also, never really had a problem with lag while bumping or rubbing. A few times, but nothing major. So, like I said before, absolutely nothing wrong with a little rubbing AS FAR AS NASCAR RACING IS CONCERNED so if you believe otherwise, stay out of the NASCAR rooms.

Hardcore rubbing.....

I laughed at this so hard!! :sly:👍

but to be serious, no contact is the best way to go... sometimes its not possible, if its my fault I usualy step away and let me pass so everything gets back where it was! 👍

If I keep control, and don't get any damage I'm fine. But if my car loses its looks, or I lose control. Then I'm annoyed. Especially when spun out on a straight because you were overtaking them for the lead!

That's beside the point though. If the host wants a NASCAR room with zero contact, and he's willing to kick people to get it, then there is something wrong with contact.

Likewise, if he's OK with a F1 demolition derby, that's what you'll get.

It's hard to race online without some form of contact. I'd say having to counter the "rubbing" is when it gets to be ramming/wreckless driving.

Then you get the people who pass on right with little/no room when there's a whole universe on the left. :dunce:

OP: just realized what your avatar was about. Worth a laugh in itself .

If I have to change my line or hit the brakes/get off accelerator to avoid a spin, you are doing it too rough. I'm all for a bit of contact; unsettling a car through a turn, squeezing people to the out side with the bare minimum of room; I love it. However I won't, and certainly won't appreciate having this done to me, is hit peoples rear 3 quarter panel mid corner or force cars onto the grass.
