How can you fix something that hasn't been broken yet?

Luckily, I was able to pay for premium when I got it, but I must admit I would be truly upset if I was a non-premium member. It's like you HAVE to get cable just because all local channels are only showing paid programming...
 
Reasonable ads I can live with. This placement, and some silly things such as how many posts you can view in a page seems like a useless bonus to get people to pay.
 
If I can't even change the skin, why do I need a pull down menu for it permanently on the side?

Many new users were never aware that they could upgrade their accounts. The hope is that many of them will be tempted to look at the other styles and be encouraged to upgrade. Any user can also select GTP Lite, whether they are Premium or not.
 
I refreshed the page to see what new posts there were, but I got this! :eek:


It's quite a change, and I like it! Everything is all Web 2.0!

But I must say, taking away the extra PPP is kinda lame. But you gotta make money right?

That still doesn't answer why it needs to be there permanently, taking up space. Again, how often are people going to be changing back and forth between skins?

I mean, is it just there for a user to switch to the Full skin, then come to view posts and find them filled with warnings that they can't actually do anything unless they pay, forcing them to switch back?
 
Dude its not that big a deal, doesnt really bother me that there is a little pull down menu. Why would you stop using this great website because the skin selector is not where you want it?

Those of us who are not Premium Members have multiple Vertical ads taking up space on the right side of the screen, meaning the actual forum space is shrunk down. Very poor choice for those of us on lower screen resolutions.

It is more the fact that there are more ads in a silly location. Moving the ads and removing a useless pull down menu would eliminate the problem.
 
Bothers me now that I know the difference... I'm wasting a 2in wide column of my 28in screen which could be used for viewing tv on the side.

This "upgrade" is a pretty nice kick in the nuts for the non-Premium users. But I was planning on getting Premium sooner or later, so I guess I will have to move it up in my priorities.


And the colors are a little dreary. Is there another skin that could possibly be made?
 
Where do you suggest he move the adds to? Jordan has to make a little extra $ somehow, he puts a lot of time into this site and if he needs ads then putting them at the side and then making use of the space they take up for a skin selection pull down menu is fine with me. I dont even pay attention to the ads.

I meant when you were posting. The page used to have to completely rewrite, and then show the post.

I must agree to that too. The grey is a bit too much. I liked that beige-ish colour from GTP8, cant we have maybe the grey bits changed to beige or something?
 
The359, ROAD_DOGG33J, V1P3R, and others, you should be in the Senior Members usergroup (more than 500 posts and 90 days on the site), which can actually view the Full-screen styles at 100 posts-per-page. Unless I've messed on the permissions somewhere...

Eh, 10 inches? What resolution are you using? The right hand bar is actually only 180 or so pixels wide.

Not from quick reply… It’s been using AJAX since GTP8 IIRC.

A couple critiques...

1) Make the username/usertitle/location/online status centered, slightly larger, and bolded.

2) I changed the coloring of the buttons at the top, just to see what it would look like.




3) Someone pointed out that our shiney Premium badges are gone. 👎

That image is from my first post... Before I had read Jordan's post in full & changed to 'full' mode.

4) The colors are a little drab... A little more contrast & color would be good.

Yep. Im all in for the beige, and so are a few others. Its all greyscale, makes the place kinda less intresting, the blue+red+beige gave it a good feel IMO.

Why are popups coming all over the place now? The partypoker ads...

Popups you say? That's not good. I've not had any of them, so It may not be GTP. Try clearing your cookies.

Unless you changed it after the forum was changed, then no, it was not working initially. Afew the forum changed, I changed the skin to Full, and was greeted with threads of nothing more than "You must be a Premium Member to use the full skin".

If the requirement is now 500 posts and 90 days, that is much more reasonable.

Just a small issue I came across, Jordan. If you click on a Who Posted? link there is no GTPlanet logo or GT image in the header, it is just a dark bar at the top of the page.

What style are you using? There obviously shouldn't be any ads for Premium users.

Yep, I typed up those permissions and the 'error' message a while back. I'll change that now.
