Well, well, well. I was expecting to leave 4 IB tests for last as I thought the cone slaloms would stump me and there is no point doing the others if I am not going to get the slaloms.
Over the weekend I golded the Cita D'Aria S license test so did the IB test straight after it. This left me with Hong Kong and the slaloms in IB and the Nurb tests in IA and S.
I decided that since I thought I knew how to do it I would gold the Hong Kong test which I did without too much drama. I then went to S16 planning to fine tune my T3 and T4 times. I got a T3 better than the demo but struggled to concentrate after that. I could get a good T3 time but T4 was a struggle.
I thought this ain't going to happen tonight lets have a peak at the slalom. My previous best time was just under silver and I have struggled to get silver again. I just thought I would take it for a spin, try something different and see what happens. If I got a decent silver ghost out of it I would be happy. Now the gold time is 17.7. My very first run ie not fails and no restarts 17.8. I thought what is going on here ? I have not got anywhere near that time. So I decided to keep going.
Now contrary to all good advice I decided that most of it can be taken flat out. I kept going and on about my 10th retry I went flat out with 2 braking spots about 3/4 the way through, ended up crossing the line sideways for a 17.58.
I then thought I would have a crack at the no TCS/ASM. I tried Famines method but it did not work - he double pulses the brakes on each set of cones in the second half.
I then decided just use the same method a the first one. So I did and came up 17.6?
Someone said they find the second one easier. I now agree and so do my ghosts. My ghost for the first one looks very rough. The second one looks very smooth and I could have kept it together for another 4 sets of cones at least. It also included 2 braking points at about 3/4. The rest is flat out but I can not believe how smooth it looks ( I do not drive that way ).
This was with a DS2 using buttons. Some may ask what is the trick. Rhythm defintely. Someone said the trick is that the car needs to be turning before reaching the cones. I had tried this but never achieved it.
What I did this time was straightened up before reaching each cone and then turning as I passed it. I ran them all pretty close but the rhythm ensures you do not hit them.
The rhythm is like this on the steering buttons:
turn left, past the first cone, tap right, tap right, straight, turn right, tap left, tap left, straight, turn left etc
