Hardest License Test?

getting gold on coffee break #4 - I finally had to switch from button mashing (how I've played since GT1) to using the stick. It took about 4 days to retrain my hands, but then I golded it and it was worth it. Coffee break #5 was hard at first but after I drew a map and instituted a plan it wasn't bad.

Well I just got all golds and I am staring at the model T, the hardest for me where,

A-13 : the R32 GTR at Trial mountain
IA-16: the R92CP at Le sarthe
S-12: the Pitworks Z at Suzuka

otherwise the rest were anywhere from really easy to moderate difficulty.

Personally, I doubt i will be able to obtain 100% completion, either, mainly for the fact i cant beat those horrible missions (3 lap battle and 1 lap magic) and I cant really get my S-License.... EVIL s-12_Suzuka!

well the nissan have a good handling... and the track is sarthe.. (i think)

i think (i cant remember the number of the test) the mercedes in nurburgring... is very dificult cuz the circuit is too large.. and very hard to keep the car on the road...

For sheer length of each lap, it's got to be the Nurburgring. Though it's a great drive and takes quite a lot of skill, I can't stand it when I have to race it. B-Spec is my saviour for that one...

I don't have a single Gold, so to me, they are all hard...I only have Gold in the Cofffe #1 under the first license I think B...i'm not sure, but man, I'm no good at getting gold...alll my licenses were got with bronze

:(

They aren't ALL hard, emac. I do say that the license tests are easy to learn, difficult to master. That's why I've done so well. I'm no superstar myself. In fact, I have only 7 or so golds, I cleared one or two with all-silver, and a handful of bronzes.

I'll rate as many as possible. I don't know exact License Test numbers, so I'll describe the ones I'm talking about.

JOHN'S LIST OF HARDEST GT4 LICENSE TESTS
01 - International A: One-Lap Test at Nürburgring Nordschleife
02 - Super License: Audi R8 at Sears Point (I hate using "Infineon Raceway")
03 - Super License: 1992 Mercedes-Benz Touring Car at Nürburgring Nordschleife
04 - Super License: Peugeot 205 at Chamonix
05 - Super License: Motul Pitwork Z at Suzuka Circuit - Full

Some of them I just came up with out of nowhere. I tried to remember as many tests where I've struggled as possible. The first three are definite picks of mine.

I guess the Peugeot 205 S-License test was the hardest. But disappointingly, the last S-License test in GT4 isn't anywhere near as challenging as the last S-License test in GT3 (it's hard work getting control of that GT-One in Monaco). They should have given us a Pagani Zonda C12S 7.3 with N1s and no assists on the Nordschleife. That would be a great challenge.

I was doing the Nurburgring lap with the Mercedes (IA15) and it seems like the ONLY way I've failed so far is because I've hit the pace car. I mean it's not my fault that I'm drafting you because i want gold!

Uncle Harry
The on with the Saleen S7 was hard. I had to run a couple of walls to gold that one.

That's where my gold streak stopped. I'm about 2 tenths off of a gold time... I just can't get together a lap with that car. I haven't done any tests beyond S3 - and I won't until I get a gold on that one.

What else...
It took me forever to get a gold lap for IB15 at Citta di Aria. Oh, and harnessing the R92CP for IA16 was no easy task for me either.

Otherwise, I'll agree that the dirt rallies are the hardest - the ice rallies are even tougher if going for a clean run. I'm ashamed to admit that I did some hardcore wall riding to get a quick time in those.

The slalom tests weren't too tough on me. Infact, after I got a rhythm established and got a gold time in the first one, I got the second slalom test on the first try.

The Motul Pitwork Z at Suzuka was by far the most challenging test for me. Must have taken me more than 50 tries to get a gold on that one! The good thing is that I now know Suzuka very well....
Isn´t that test the only one where the goldtime isn´t an even numbered time? Most tests have xx.000, but this one has (example) x´xx.123. Does any other test swing that way? I can´t remember.

So I take back my previous statement. It's not that the Nurburgring was HARD, it was just ridiculously frustrating. After getting 2 minutes into the race and hitting the pace car about 10 times, I FINALLy got all the way around the track.

The Result: Gold by 1 second :D

The IA license with the Alfa at Citti di Aria was toughest for me. Getting through it at all meant failure the first three/four times, then bronze took many more tries as I painted the town's walls red at every turn. Scratching out a silver took me over an hour after my first sucessful bronze attempt.

To think I'm still about 4 seconds from gold...at that track...with that slow car...I'm not sure I'll ever get a legitamite gold trophy there!

Sure, the 'Ring took me longer for bronze, but that lap is far, far longer than Aria.

License test arn't very hard for me :S mabe S-16 since i don't know my way around the ring very well. But i got a silver on the other ring test so i gues i don't know.

License tests aren't hard at all. Just do a perfect run and eey voila you have gold or almost gold. Learn to drive before attempting to reach for gold, will make things a lot easier. Having golded most license tests in previous gt's, all my first attempts were bronze, 2nd attempts almost silver or silver
and then a few times more for gold.

However, I really hate the license test for having to drive your car so hard. It basicaly teaches everyone how to drive but in a wrong and kamikaze manner. Even in the demo of some tests the driver does things one would never dare to do in RL. I wished the license tests aimed more at realistic driving. From of the first license test you play you have to push the car's brakes to 100%. How crazy is that? Wish it focussed more on the physics involved in the car when driving. I mean it's already lacking the direct feedback feeling, a little help in understanding and seeing what's going on with the car's movements would be nice. Driving differently almost makes it impossible to reach gold

Okay. I updated my past post. Handling on snow is much different from handling on dirt. Having to handle on snow and get a good time on your run are both hard. However, I did manage to snatch Silver honors. To whomever who talked about Chamonix, thank you for the reminder.

JohnBM01 = good news, I now have started to get Gold medals in all the races of the A and B licenses only because you can see the best driving line which helps ALOT. I'm struggling on some of the rally races on one lap races with the pace car. mind you following the pace car is EASY. just ease off the gas a little bit and kind of ride his rear bumper when driving a car better than his.

for the rallies, yes, USE the walls like a noob and you can gold the test because you actually go faster than "being careful not to hit the wall" driving, lol

most of the tests though I got gold on the 1-3 try EVERYTIMNE, :), gosh I'm soo happy

and for those who are wondering, YES, you CAN get gold with the controller. thats all I use and it's easier to controll the gas and breaks that way then slamming you foot through the floor to stop, lol.

the break tests where EASY. after a few trys you realise you need to spin the tires to get that good time and for the fast cars, just turn left or right and your car stops a little quicker

use the ghost car to your advantage on all the license tests when you pass. when ever you go faster than your ghost you know you are doing something right.

all in all, they get easy when you PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE...get to know the car and track... all the experience drivers will say the same thing to all you new people to the licenses in GT4...

Oh, one more "tip" to getting golds, patience is a vertue, AND all GOOD things come to those who wait.

Good luck, eh...lol :) :sly:

Any licence test where you have to follow that #$%& pace car. I swear it is distracting, and I tend to rear end him often in the turns :banghead:

oh, like the one at Costa di Amalfi with the Peugeot (i think). I'll rear end or pass the pace car on the first downhill hairpin every single time. It's so unnecessarily slow going through those slight esses and entering the left hander.

Yep, that bugged me hard too. I can´t understand why the pacecar doesn´t use the fastest line through those esses.

Oh, I completely disagree, Crimson_Menace. I'll give you one big reason why Coffee Breaks shouldn't be a hassle- they don't count for gold medals. You can spend 55 minutes with one Coffee Break, do everything right, and still be able to complete them, granted you cross into the Finish gate. Many of them are Autocross-type courses anyways. The only exception is one that will make Pac-Man eat his heart out- the Super License Coffee Break, whereas you have to knock out every cone in a maze setup. You use a Kei car to navigate the maze, which is much better to use than a Ford GT or something. Even that Super License test was tough because it was like a mini-game. That's how I think EVERYONE should view coffee breaks- as mini-games. Complete the Coffee Break, and then continue on to your basic License Tests. No harm, no foul. I wouldn't worry about Coffee Breaks. My only problem with Coffee Breaks... never scored a Gold in any of them, not that it matters, of course.

ZAGGIN
off the top of myhead it would have to be... got it!

i forget which licence its in, but its that one with the skyline that starts on the hill at trial mountain. DAMN! i hate that test! i hated it on gt1, and i hate it more now. ive spent many an hour trying to crack this simple looking, but deceptively hard nut. believe me, its a right pig of a test.
gran turismo has a proud history of continuity, using tracks and cars from previous games. oh how i wish they had forgotten that when it came to the licence tests. this ugly mother keeps coming back from the past, like a ghost to haunt me! I HATE IT!

hear hear - clapclap - that is the HARDEST test of all.

I've got all Golds in all the A,B, iA and iB licences, and all Silver + stage 16 gold in S-licence. but that skyline was the HARDEST.

Actually, Zaggin and Yaijai... they are more of annoyances than tests. Trial Mountain is already a tough track with some undulating corners. Taking a Nissan R33 Skyline around it is worse. The keys to this test are car control and practical cornering technique. With a course as hilly and with as many elevation changes, you will need to work the car and the track equally hard. The downgrades in elevation help out steering and gives you a little extra speed. The upgrades in elevation slows your car down. The best cases of climbing steep hills can be found in Rage Racer's longest track (I forget the name of it). You go up these high streets, and you're losing speed while up hill. You can't stop it or do anything but take it as it is. My only real challenge to this test is finding the proper racing line. I think you get a great hint as to how to take the course by playing GT3's version. It should have a pre-defined racing line that shows you the best way around the course. This test isn't that hard because if you've played it in other GT games, then that gives you experience.

Another annoying test was using the BMW Z4 around a slalom course (without Driver Aids). The trick was to drive the car at speed while making sure not to overshoot at any point. If you knock out a cone, disqualified. I still believe that ANY license test or race around Citta di Aria is suicide. That even includes the one License Final with the Lotus Esprit around the high-speed section of the beautiful Italian track.
