F U too Kaz. So, companies limit the damage, but let Kaz take a jab at American cars like that while trying to convince me to buy the Camero '10?

Maybe its true, but still...

Sounds right to me. American cars have been known to favour power in a straight line over cornering and light, cheap build quality over heavy luxury. Probably since you have so many straight roads while Europe and Japan are all about the bends.

I have nothing against Americans, but they really aren't as great as some may think at making cars. One of the best cars they make, the Corvette Z06 is mainly made of plastic.

Since your defending American cars (of which I applaud), you might want to learn how to spell Camaro.

But what plastic! The best American stuff to me has always been the old muscles, they come across as big and brutish speed machines that wouldn't take a corner if you paid it, but that's part of the fun.

This is the most ridiculous criticism of GT5 I've heard yet.

I honestly think the OP is trying to find miscule, infintesimal things to criticize. Seriously guys, if you want to hate the game enough that you get seriously aggravated at things like this then maybe it's time to give up on GT5 and get on with your life.

Wow. Simply wow.

The sheer ignorance of this comment is very telling.

The Corvette has been made of some form of glass reinfoced plastic since its inception in1953.

IOW it has been made of FIBREGLASS since day 1 - as an inovative way to remain light, but of course you knew this - right??

Alot of american cars suck period. What you want him to say that all amercian cars are brilliant?

Granted some cars are ok but they never been up to european standards in engineering at all. Cars in europe have to be able to track straight at speed even if your hands are off the wheel where as most american cars while better these days will want to wobble and pull. Our supensions systems have not seen much of a change from the 1970s. Even mid range EU cars are better than most of the us counteparts.

And yes i am an american not some troll and it is is perfectly true that the vast majority of our cars do not stack up vs anything out of europe.

...it's basically plastic. You can talk semantics if you like but it looks like plastic and bends like plastic. Compared to metal... it's plastic.

Im not sure where the OP is getting at... is this threads sole purpose to start arguments?

That stupid analogy went out the window in the late 80's. The ZR-1 is one second slower on the Nurburgring than the Enzo, and the ACR Viper is faster. And it's pretty much common sense that American cars are built to go fast without the heavy price tag on luxury and interior beauty, that's the point.

Well played, lol. My bad. I obviously dont own a real one, do I, lol.

Not a complaint of the game, just an observation of Kaz's hypocrisy. Didnt a Ford Mustang old muscle car win one of his contests lately? Neither American nor European cars were perfect back then, but which ones are loved more now? Thats right.

Yep, plastic. Nothing wrong except for non independent rear suspension. Still great for the price and potential.

Nothing wrong with Kaz' statement, merely pointing out a known fact.

Viper ACR and ZR1 are not "cars from the past".

I wasn't using the two examples in the same instance. Anyway, being able to build a few good cars says nothing about the overall population of cars in the country. That said, you guys seem to be all about the Prius these days, which isn't American but sucks regardless.

Then so are carbon fibre cars. The only difference is the reinforcement, both are plastic. CFRP (Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic), FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic).

The McLaren F1 is made of plastic, lawl, British cars are cheap and nasty!

And body panels will start to fall off sooner rather than later :P.

So they finally made a good corvette cause the majority of corvettes have been trash. Still does not excuse all the bad ones when they you know could have put some money into researching or building better suspensions to keep the things wheels on the road when not going in a straight line :P.

And aren't these new better american cars getting their suspensions from overseas? I seem to recall hearing that they just imported the suspensiions and slapped them on their cars.

Nice blanket statements.

Your ignorance and lack of knowledge is funny.

OK - again.

The car has had a body made of FIBREGLASS since 1953. That is why the car is so light.

The point being it is SUPPOSED to be made of that light weight material.

The latest iteration is SMC, a mastic material that i susper strong, superlight and does the job of being bodywork perfectly.

You are basing your ignorant opinion of the Corvette from the trip ethat Jezza spews on Top Gear - we all saw the episode where he flexs the rear bumper outer panel.

Well, have you ever flexed to plastic outer bumper panel of ANY modern car? They all flex - that is th epoint of FLEXIBLE plastic bumpers.

Notice how he could not do the same excercise with th edoor or hood (bonnet) of the car. Because just light carbonfibre reinforced plasticm you cant FLEX it like the plastic bumper overlays.

Why not base your opinions on facts instead of junk TV?

Oh boy.. this isn't going to end well. It was a cheap jab at American cars but what I don't understand is we do make a lot of below average cars but what nation doesn't? I mean, so what! Our classic muscle cars were shoddy, very low quality. My father's old '68 charger was horribly engineered but really, it was beautiful. The V8 was a monster! If the boys on Top Gear can slobber over badly made Alfa Romeros because of their heart and soul then I can slobber over poorly made muscle cars because of their grit and power!

Your ignorance and lack of knowledge is funny.

And your rar rar corvette fanboyism is worse. But hey i could not care less if you like them. Nor should you care at all if i do not.

Stating a fact is stating a fact american sports cars SUCKED.

Your ignorance of cars is astounding.

Do yourself a favour and hit Google and learn about the innovations Corvette brought to the table since 1953.

And while youare at it, have a look at the RACING victory heritage of Corvette since the 1950's.

I see you are another fanboy that bases his automotive opinion on the Kevin Keegan hairdo gorilla of Top Gear.

Oh, and notice how the Corvette is the longest continuos running sports car model in the history of sports cars - the only other car that comes close is the Porsche 911.

It's plastic, why get mad about that, it does bend like plastic. Carbon fiber panels use plastics too, and it's great. The point is Kaz' statement had no malice, it is true American cars in the past had flaws.

Exactly, Top gear had a whole special on Lancias and how they love them despite their many flaws, but can't seem to get past them on American cars.

Classic American muscle had style and obviously muscle, but were flawed cars. So the statement in GT5 is true. They also state many flaws on European and Japanese cars where applicable... or so I've found so far.

Their new cars are great! Good on them for it, GMC have certainly shut up all the "lol push rod engine dinosaur, leaf springs wtf?" people.

Viper ACR and ZR1 are not "cars from the past".

the corvette's transverse leaf spring setup is actually used on an independent rear axle and has been since the second generation C2. since i believe the c4 or c5 the spring also functions as a beefy antiroll bar. the composite transverse leaf springs also have a reputation as being almost completely immune to wear, and by design weigh less than an equivalent coil spring and lead to lower unsprung weight and more mass in the center of the track. it's really quite advanced, I'm kind of surprised the same kind of setup isnt used more often.

Again - th eBODY panels do not "ben d like plastic" -they are more rigid than metal body panels. The same as carbon fibre panels do not "bend like plastic".

The part being "bent in" on the Top gear show was the FLEXIBLE plastic bumper cover.

All modern cars have to by law in the EU, USA and Japan have FLEXIBLE PLASTIC bumper covers.

ALL cars FLEXIBLE plastic bumper covers bend.

How about you get your facts straight?

Does anyone find it funny that the Camaro he's referencing is actually Australian?

I think it is funnier that the Ferrari 599 uses the same technology in its shocks that the Corvette has had as an option since 2003.

You never hear about that now do you?
