I looked up and that's Mcsqueezy from here.

This thread is called "Hate on YouTube", it is not called "copy-and-paste the most despicable comments you can find on YouTube". Copying the contents dos not make you a better member, it only gives credence to the original poster of said comments.

The staff at GTPlanet.net does not wish to descend into the trash heap of comments YouTube contains. So keep this thread clean, or this thread will be locked.

How easy/difficult would it be for Youtube to assume some sort of moderatorship?

I don't know; it depends how important it is to the site owners. It seems they take a "complete-tolerance" attitude with free speech compared to most sites, and nobody really cares. As long as a lawyer doesn't hand them a cease-and-desist notice, they just let anything through. They obviously do not care about the ramblings of others one way or the other.

I help moderate a wiki with 8 million articles: Plenty of junk appears and disappears. If it weren't for the 400+ mods with a combined knowledge of 60+ languages, it would be an impossible task. The only problem is that comments are only caught by the engine 50% of the time, for some reason. The articles and descriptions are easily caught with the daily database updates.

An internal search engine that catches comment words in YouTube is what it needs; I only read if the comments if I have no clue what I've just seen (which is a very rare occurrence). I assume if the uploader wants to remove comments that have received enough "bad karma", then it can be deleted? But all it takes is a month or so of steady comment removal by searching for key words; after 95% are removed, a periodic inspection every day or so quickly cleans out the rest.

But the owners of YouTube wish to run it their way, so what can you do...except to complain to them?

Providing I'm right in thinking Google do indeed own Youtube, couldn't they practically finance their way out of and legal issues?

Would again be tricky, because the trolls seem to adapt to d1ff3r3nt w4y5 0f 7yp1n9 that a program would have difficulty picking up. The human element makes it extremely difficult to combat with synthetic machinery.

Youtube are hardly famous for their customer service, it may be wishful thinking that complaining would actually do any good. If only!

Considering they get 15c per comment apparantly (seen a video on there that says they get it!!), it seems that the more drivel that goes into the comment section just gives that original poster more cash.

And if you read the Soulja Boy page, that dude has about 10000 comments each video he posts. No wonder he's big, YouTube is financing his albums!!

It mustn't be Youtube giving out cash. (I haven't seen a cent from my videos.) The advertisers must pay per comment to have they're ads featured on channels if the channel owner agrees to or something.

I'm tired.

I'd link up the video for you guys to watch but there's too much swearing in it and I don't feel like breaking AUP, just type in youtube "Soulja Boy shocking news" and it will be in the first half dozen videos.

Not really hate, but I found it kind of funny (Spore video):

I was sort of half laughing but half disgusted when i saw this:

Freddie Mercury- you are a fag... You got sperm on your face. You are a big disgrace. Spreading H.I.V. all over the place.

Anyone who knows Queen well will know what this is on about.

Here's one containing two stupid comments by the same person and a smart comment from Smashtasm - Episode 1:

Another good point is that Brawl isn't gay and just as many people would agree with me, as well as disagree, just as people would disagree with you about Halo 3.👍

I guess there is hope for YouTube.

I think this thread has outlived it's purpose...

The swear filter is on GTP for obvious reasons, and yet although I commend people for deleting inappropriate words, the very nature of the topic just doesn't lend itself to our Acceptable Usage Policy in my opinion.

Suffice it to say, YouTube comments are full of pointless, inane and sometimes downright sickening remarks - and arguing with people only gives them the attention they seek. I don't see the point in keeping a thread open at GTP for the purpose of verifying this stark-staringly obvious conclusion, so it's on with the padlock..
