It's taken nearly a year, but now I actually love flying around Nord... er... (can't spell the rest).

When I first got the game I just could not get the hang of it. I spent most of my time spinning around after touching the grass, or whacking into another car trying to overtake on those very narrow lanes. It was really, really frustrating.

It held me up getting various championship wins in A spec. After several months, I "cheated" and used the Red Bull.... I could get a place or even a win, even though I would be bouncing off just about everything.

I took some advice from posters on here, and started off in really slow cars, and gradually built up.

Now, for the last couple of weeks, I choose it over Trial Mountain, my favourite, for the sheer fun of the drive.

It's taken a long time, but it's gone from being my most hated track, to one of my favourites.

Anyone else in a similar position?

Nür has been my favorite track since GT4. So much so that even with the much bumpier track on GT5 I remembered most of my lines very quickly after having not raced on it in 3 years (GT4 stolen :(). There are a couple corners that get me from time to time but it's such an enjoyable track that I don't mind. I don't see how anybody put's Spa over the 24hr, Eau Rouge is a beautiful corner but the rest is just dull.
Sorry had to throw that in.

nur is totally awesome!!! i use it to test out new cars i get!! track has a lil bit of everything imo....

yea test your endurnce and skill and how fast you can frive with out spining out. I had nice battle Me(GTR Spec-v) and this other guy(LFa) As i said CAt and mouse till he failed last few corners with no tires. very suprised with GTR at 630pp

I've absolutely hated this course since GT4. And it was because in one of my last licensing exams on GT4 I had to drive an entire lap in a Mercedes Evolution 190 touring car and I could never do it. I was younger then and now looking back on it I think I could probably do it (my ps2 broke, fixed it, then my GT4 broke.). I have raced on it a few times in GT5 and while I say it's easier than GT4 I still do not enjoy it. Must take getting used to. I hated Sarthe and now I love it. Disliked Spa and realize now it's probably my favorite course. Then again for the longest time I was the noob who's favorite course was Daytona :dunce:

I dig it. Much more in GT5 than GT4. Ditto for La Sarthe. Best part about Spa? DLC BABY!!! I'm looking forward to more tracks...I miss Red Rocks. And Seattle.

This was me too, I could never get past that license test in GT4 and just gave up in the end and waited for GT5.

Lately though I find myself getting a lot better at the Ring and quite liking it really.

I'm even planning on my first attempt at the 4hr endurance this week. Have picked a car and had some practice laps already (a modded RX-7 Spirit).

Will add something to the long thread in the Race Reports when I'm finished.

No one has spelled it correctly so far, and only a few have tried.
It's Nordschleife, not Nordschliefe or Nordshleife or any other variation.

Loved the Nordschleife licence tests and that SLR mission in GT4. :) Propably best way to learn the track is start in relaxed manner testing some comfortable road car. It can be quite tricky with hard suspension settings and high power.

I get to know the Nürburgring about 2 years before GT in a game called Project Gotham Racing for the Dreamcast. One of the most difficult games i've ever played (PGR 2 i mean) and the first one that had the ring in it. When GT4 came out the track was not as wide, but the good thing was i already knew the track, i tried to get under 7 mins in a Speed 12 which i never achieved. I always loved the track, the shere lenght of it is awesome! And since Spa is also in the game i say the 2 best oldschool tracks in the world are now being put toghether...finally!

Well actually its the Nürburgring, Nordschleife is just the old part of it, while the F1 track is just called Nürburgring. No offense, but since I live near the track I thought I point this out...and also to make some people gelaous because I actually can go to the track ever weekend ;-)

I've always loved it so.. But it's my all time favourite track both in real life and Gran Turismo!

Absolutely hated it up until recently. But after going through the 4H endurance race a couple of times, I can see its appeal. It keeps longer races more engaging because of its length, and the more familiar you are with the track, the more enjoyable it becomes.

It does, however, take many hours of practice to get comfortable with the track, and you can't do it in short 20-30 minute sessions. You need to dedicate 1-2 hour sessions to get a good feel of it. This, I feel, is the biggest hurdle for most casual gamers to overcome.

I believe that's "jealous"...lol.

Great track to drive on for hotlapping, crap track to race on. By far the most highly overrated, most overused track for online racing.

I hate the Nordscheifle, only was cool in GT PSP to screw around a bit, but in GT5 it's total 🤬, gotta agree with James May.

Learned in half a week, don't use it much though, unless I'm forced.

I didn't like it until I realized I need to take it a couple of notches back before going all out. Now I love it? It takes some practice for sure and it is a great track for learning a cars character in my opinion.

Once you get to know it well it is very fun. I like to take factory cars from 450 to 600pp on comfort soft to sport mediums. It makes for a fun time. I have been trying to replicate the actual lap times with the factory cars lately.

My favorite track of all the GT editions.

GT5 edition takes Nordschleife to a complete diferent level. It's one of the hardest tracks in racing games, so it's easy to hate (it's not a good track for a bump-through-others player, lol).

But as always, if you train hard enough you will succeed on it, as in any other track. This just takes more time.

Nope.

It takes too much time to learn when there are so many other great circuits to race on, for me.

I appreciate it for its glory and move on.

I always loved the Ring. I was so happy when it first appeared in GT4. Best track in the game for me, always was and always will be. I live only about an hour away from the track and was there several times in rL, that makes it even more fun to drive on the nordschleife in GT5

I absolutely hated it in GT4 until I learned the track. I hated it until I was forced to drive it to complete the game. I basically learned the track driving in the Classic Euro 1000 k series, or whatever it was called. I believe it was the first race in that series. I was driving the '65 Alfa, and about halfway through the race, I fell in love with the track and the car. That is still one of my favorite cars in GT5, just wish it was premium. I loved the track so much, I just wanted to hurry up and finish the series, so that I could race on the Ring more. Having said all that, Trial Mountain is still number 1, with the Ring a close second. I test all cars, first on their home country track (if it is available in GT5 Example: Japanese cars are usually tested on Suzuka first), then Trial Mountain, and then the Ring.

I actually learned the most racing online. What I had considered a fast lap previously was not that fast at all - I also drive a lot of different cars on here, with varying tire compounds - I think most people can be fast in an AWD car on race softs - you separate the men from the boys (or girls from the women - giggity) racing in a high powered car on sport hards - BMW M5 is a great car to learn the track on, because its heavy, and has good power - if you can set a clean, fast lap with that, then you're doing it right.

It takes about as much time to master the track, as it does to master the spelling of the track.

I used to keep record of every lap I completed, but stopped counting after about 1,000 since GT4. Unfortunately I've picked up too many bad habits on some corners there though.

I'm another who loves this track. But, I fully admit to enjoying it much more after I learned how to drive on it thanks to the GT series. Other series of games have had it and it was such a chore sometimes tbh. It might just be because of a positive bias towards GT and the handling models, but it might not be. By far, it is my favorite offline grinding track thanks to the DTM series, and all of those cars that qualify have 100+ wins minimum each on that track.
