Recently a friend of my dads bought a large recreational building, which my dad co-owns i guess, and we (my family, their family, and a good amount of the people from the church we go to) are in the process of refurbishing it.

One of the small problems that we had was that there was graffiti on the back of the building. It wasn't anything elaborate, just a few tags here and there, so we painted over it. Well, today i go in back of the building to throw something in the dumpster and what do i find, more graffiti.

Not just tags, some idiot decides to crudely spray paint a penis on the wall along with the phrase "was it worth it". Other than just that there were a few more tags, same anti-government bullcrap that you would expect from a person of that brain size, and graffiti inside a tiny room in which the door has a big hole in it (I think the graffiti in the room was already there though)

My question is, what should we do about it? Obviously it needs to be painted over... again, but what will this idiot do next? Not that its too big of a problem, its just that with the number of idiots that there are in this world, i'm worried that it may escalate. I don't know why, but it just makes me want to blow this kids head off, and considering some of Florida's laws, I very much could.

What do you think?

I dunno what to do about it, but my car has been tagged twice in the last 8 days with paint. Both times on the bonnet. I have been using turps to remove it, but I think that may do damage to the paint.

I also want to hurt the kids who do that, it is really disgusting. 🤬

Some people usually paint the walls dark gray or even black. Since most spray-paints are dark-coloured, a black wall isn't very attractive to paint.

On the car-painting think Blake, it's been my experience that when someone tags you car, twice, it's because you've been up to no good to start with and they're acting revenge against you. So, who'd you knock up?

Turpentine to remove paint? Yes, well, it removes paint. So either save up for many new paint jobs or stop parking your car wherever you park it. Take pictures and send it to the insurance company. See what they say.

And Diablo, I have no idea what to do about gafitti. There isn't any in my town. Maybe ask the cops what you should do so you don't end up spawning grafitti all over the place?

I take care of a small mall in BC which used to get tagged all the time. First make sure you remove them ASAP. My taggers worked mostly at night, so by getting out there before dawn & removing their tags before anyone could see them, I eliminated 95% of my problem. There's no point in tagging if no-one gets to see it, so they've mostly given up. I get about one tag a month now, which isn't that big of a deal.
The stuff I use is a commercial product, so it's not available to the public... and I can't remember the name of it right now, Graffiti Gone, or something like that.?
(I've been drinking ever since I heard about the news about Colin McRae)

Anyway, I'll get the real name of the product & a stock # for you by monday,
... but the stuff is wonderful. I've taken month old tags off with this stuff, it just turns the spraypaint liquid and you just soak it up with a rag. No effort whatsoever.

Maybe some motion activated lights in the back of building. Big dog chained near back of building. Is there a type of clear lacquer you could paint the back wall 10 feet high or so that way you might be able to pressure wash the graffiti off with?

Paintball gun. Let the kid feel it from the wall's perspective. Quick tap on the back of the head is surprisingly effective. When they're running, go for the butt-shot. Bigger target.

Bad ideal they may be more than one tager and worse much bigger than you:nervous:.
The paint ideal could work just keep hitting wall with paintballs to cover tags.

People actually do that?

Monsters!

But then you run the risk of them doing something else to the building. Throwing bricks at windows, etcetera.

The issue with security measures (ie CCTV or bright lights) is that you'll end up aggrovating them further. Generally just keep covering it up and they'll eventually go away.

I thought of the paint ball idea too, but you never know if whoever is spray painting the wall has a real gun. Then again, a well placed pant ball shot to the temple would take care of the gun issue :trouble:

I'll have to look into that paint, thanks for the link, and thanks for all the suggestions :D

EDIT: If they start to do other things to the building after we paint over it and wont stop, i could very easily and legally put a bullet in this kids head. If i had a licensed gun, and i caught this kid in the act of damaging my property, Florida law states that if i feel threatened by him, or if i ask him to leave three times and he refuses, i am allowed to shoot him :D

No different then the trespassers will be shot signs on many high end homes. If someone was on my property and doing destructive things to it I would see no problem inflicting some pain onto them...I wouldn't kill them though.

The best thing I can think of is to paint the wall black and install some lights. If it keeps up I say wait for them one night with a baseball bat or some other instrument of pain and scare the living hell out of them so they don't come back.

The only thing we could do right now is paint over it and see what happens. That anti graffiti paint looks very promising though, just need to get a pressure washer or something like that.

And about that law, i don't think it allows you to shoot to kill, just injure. But then again if he's trying to kill you, i don't think there would be any problem killing him in self defense (just like your allowed to shoot to kill if someone broke into your house and is still in there)

Just an idea, but this may or may not work.

Find a silicone-based tire shine or wax. Apply it to the wall. Paint (of any kind that I know of) will not stick to silicone very well, if at all. It frustrates the tagger because he's getting horrible results from his efforts, and it doesn't cost you much to apply and maintain.

That's a good idea. Just like silicone cocking, a painters worst nightmare

I think that's essentially what the anti-graffiti paint does, and your method is probably cheaper too. It might not stay on there as long as the proper paint, though, but you never know until you've tried.

I would think that it would last a couple weeks per application - Considering that a wall doesn't go through nearly as much as a tire does.

That said, I think a couple applications would be all you need. Just enough to deter the taggers, and once they get the idea that you'll continue to do it as long as they try, they will probably just sod off.

(Of course, they may be slightly smarter then we're giving them credit for, and just wipe the wall with methyl hydrate or something similar before they paint. But their neutrons probably don't fire often enough for that to occur to them)

That reminds me of a little experiment I saw on "Mad labs" or something like that. They tried to get graffiti on a with anti-graffiti painted wall. The graffiti fell off like water drops, bloody awesome if you ask me 👍

Don't listen to this man! He is just a program made to keep us from revealing the true world!

It’s probably because I live next to a school and moron kids hang around at the school in the middle of the night and run up and down the street tagging cars.

Gah, I’ll have to buy something else to remove it, then.

And I can’t move my car.

Motion activated sprinkler. No one likes to get wet.....

Or the rags get messed up from the water. One way or another, hes not going to be happy

Or, you could try painting a mural on the wall.

A toystore which I pass every day on my regular errands tried it in order to cover up some past graffiti, and no one has painted over it since.

In fact, the idea worked so well, that all three brick walls (the fourth one is glass) were painted. Now it is voted as, "The Most Colourful Building in the City."

Just kidding.

But, it does look nicer and it wards off vandalists.

P.S: That graffiti on the back of that building, from what I heard, is borderline vandalism: at least graffiti is a form of art and not just a crude marking.

Graffiti is not "borderline" vandalism, it is vandalism. Defacing someone else's property isn't art, it's criminal.

True, but in some places, such as Montreal, there is graffiti that is at least worthy of staying on a building for a day or two. It seems better to classify it as "criminal art".

Now, those scrawlings that you see on railroad boxcars? That's nothing but a huge load of [censored].

That's not to say that I still disagree with you, though.
