HD not as Hd as expected

I have the same TV. I know what you mean it's sort of like scan lines. It happens on cars which have licence plates with writing on. i Get diagonal scan lines across the plate. Doesn't bother me too much cause i use cockpit view and rarely watch replays.

I too have a 20" Samsung HDTV - a SyncMaster2032MW. Native resolution of this screen is 1680 x 1050 but it can accept a 1080P input.

So, GT5rologue's resolution is 1280x1080.
PS3 is set to 1080p (or i) so scales to 1920 x 1080.
TV is 1680 x 1050 (or different for you) so image is scaled again.

1280x1080 -> 1920 x 1080 -> 1680 x 1050 = bad picture!

Sorry, I'm not so clued up on this but I would imagine that if the picture is scaled a few times to fit, it's going to reduce the quality?

I won't have GT5P for five more days, but I have Dled the vids from the PS Store in 1080, not sure if it is P or I. I have a Samsung 50" 1080p, PS3 hooked up with Monster HDMi. There were an awful lot of jaggies in the vid, but like I said it may have only been in 1080i.

On a side note, does anyone know why there is nothing in the PS Store that is in Dolby Digital 5.1? All the trailers and game videos are not in DD 5.1, silly to watch a Blu-Ray trailer that was created in DD5.1 and then have it removed.

I run a 32" goodmans at 1080i and everything looks great. I play COD4 and this screen has improved my game no end as I can see so much more detail!

The first thing I show people who come around is the GT5P trailer! They think it is amazing!

A lot of jaggies and edge enhancement is made to look worse if people keep backlight and sharpness setting high. Honestly spending a half hour with a good set-up disc or image would make the world of difference to most set-ups.

Size is the main factor, to keep it reasonable something has to give and sound is the most likely candidate.

A setup for an HD tv/dvd input is very different to a setup for a games console or indeed a pc input, factory settings are just trying to be all things to all men.

I disagree, factory settings are designed to show the TV off as best as it can in a strongly lit electrical showroom (hence the over the top backlighting) and with often poor source material (sharpness).

While I agree that each and every input will need to be tweaked for the best picture, the factory settings are certainly not designed to be an average setting. All a factory backlight setting will do in a home environment is give you a headache.

Thanks for the reply Scaff. I am a home theatre guy, so all my inputs are set up to my taste. However I'm willing to fine tune for GT a little bit if needed.
About the lack of DD5.1, I also suspected this, but wonder how much larger it would make the file. I will have to check the same trailer on my 360 and see what the size difference is between my PS3 and 360. Thanks for the replies.

I can't see it on the website, I doubt it's able to process a 1080p signal properly if it's that small and at that price. Try setting it at 1080i or 720p to see if it's any better.

HD Ready is 720p capable
