This is amongst my top critiques along with the in-car shadow quality, engine sounds, and the jaggy white lines on the cars body:

The driver's neck is very stiff, and his head remains in the same place at almost all times. I think the game would really come alive much better if his head would sway some more, like in real life. Maybe it would also help you get a better sense of the speed (?)...

And please note that i'm not talking about looking out the side windows here.

Head movement is a feature that has no gaming value compared to a F1 sim because the cockpit view is set directly behind the wheel. It would seem that if head movement was put in the game that it would possibly obstruct your view of the track.

The jaggies are a non issue considering most people seem to forget that PD squeezed alot in a 700 meg download, of course the drawback to this would be a downgrade to the graphics.

The swaying of the head would be too distracting. I hope it stays perfectly static. The focus should be on the hands. Hell I wouldnt even mind if there were no hands.

It would help with the sense of speed, but at that point it would get way too distracting for a game. Such incidental detail is better left to be accompanied by actual reailty, not virtual reality. There are plenty other things you can do to improve sense of speed, particularly motion blur. Proper sound effects (more violent engine noise) and cars reacting to bumps more often are more important things to add sense of speed. Head movements should be way at the bottom of the list.

Play gt legends with the g-force effects on full, and then play the Gt demo, the first thing I thought was sunday drive. I would love real head movement as a option.

Well head movement would be nice, but i think PD has some more important problems to deal with first. First of all they should get some gear changing animation in, i think thats more important than head movement.

Excuse me, but just how do you reason that the size of the demo has anything to do with jaggies?

We know the reason for the shadow jaggies, the PS3 can't afford to lose more bandwidth making them higher res with out toning down the resolution of the game more, which i don't think PD plans on doing.
As far as the other jaggies go, (the ones not related to shadows.) those aren't as bad as they were in GTHD.
It does seem to have some AA in there, and to be honest those don't seem to be noticable enough to be annoying.

Please, do not go at "jaggies" again!

We fought hard for 4 years to beat "3D rims", while fight for "tyre marks" is stil going on. Casualties are heavy, even at this point. Opening a new "jaggies" front could resolve with unrepairable damage for the "Alliance of Sanity".

Thank you in advance.

I think that gear change animation would be cool BUT I don't know how they would do that because the game would have to predict when you are about to change so the driver can take his hand of the wheel and put it on the stick ready to shift when you push the button. The only other way I can think of doing it would be to have his hand move when you hit the button, but this would mean quite a delay in doing a shift (unless the car is fitted with paddles). May not be the end of the world but could take some getting use to and is not stricly realistic (you don't rev to redline THEN depress the clutch and move your hand to the stick at that point, instead you put your hand on the stick in advance and preload it. THen when the needle hits the red line you stab the clutch and shift nice and slick)

He could place his hand on the stick when the engine is running in a certain RPM interval.. Like when it's nearing red line, or when you're either braking, or just finished braking but still losing rpms

Please go check the new F430 video at www.gran-turismo.com -

Thanks 👍

I wouldnt mind a little more movment in reaction to bumps and G-force, as long as they dont put in "look to apex". With that added in I never could drive in GTR its just to much. Also i think the pov is a little close to the wheel I'd like to see it moved back a hair(then again im 6'4" mbye that why it feels to close :D )

I think he's absolutely right. 'Cheaper' games like life for speed have a much better simulation of head movement. I'm not talking about only up, down, left and right, but also forwards en backwards (like when you slam your brakes untill the car comes to a full stop).
I will post a vid of this when I have the chance to.

I am all for head movement, some people hated it and thats fine too. To me, playing cockpit view without head movement is unnatural, yet I think having an option to dial it out for people who don't like it wouldn't hurt too.

I just hope that the level of head movement is coded in a way that it is tie into the physics and adjustments/tuning of the car.

If you watch the latest replay of the F340 as Red Baron stated there deffinatley looks like some body/head movement from the cockpit shots.

It looks like a different game, the visuals are much smoother and crisper in car and out. The sense of speed looks just right.

Ive watched this now many times and it's making me forget about the little issues we all have with the demo.

This little clip for me shows how (hopefully) it'll all be good in the end.

While driving a real car, although your head will move, your eyes will focus the same spot and your brain will work in a way that you'll barely change your perception of the surroundings.

On a game, if it replicated head movement as just a movement, you'd either throw up after a while or just be pissed that the image on the screen would keep tilting 'unnaturally' as you turn, showing you feet as you brake or the dashboard being AWOL when accelerating hard...

Although I wouldn't mind a bit more head movement, you have to keep in mind that the only cars available to drive on this demo are road cars. How much g-force do you think you get on a stock road car?...

Personally, if PD doesn't add working reverse lights, blinkers, wiper blades, fog lights, dashboard GPS navigation & stereo system, and animation of me adjusting all of these, as well as animation of me making gear shifts, adjusting the rear view mirror, turning my head around when going in reverese, and animation of my driver giving drivers who drive like idiots online "the finger" as I pass them by... well then I'll have no other choice than to throw my copy of GT5 at Kaz and tell him to shove it where the sun don't shine!

Bloody no tallent lazy developers, who needs 'em!!! :grumpy:👎

;)

I just love how the car bounces in that video, at the beginning, and at 1:05 as you pass the white R8.:sly:

It not the head that is moving though, it is perfectly static, it is the car thats moving. Kazunori knows better than that, he won't make the head sway.:sly:

Beerzgood

But if you decide to shift at a lower RPM, it'd look inconsistent. This is where the pressure-sensitivity is appropriate. Gently hold down R2 to place your hand on the shifter, press all the way to shift for better response. If you just tap R2 all the way quickly, then the hand should then travel all the way from the wheel to shifter, then shift.

That would be F'n sweet!

That new video looks fantastic. I'm not talking about drastic movement here, just enough to let you know that you aren't flying.

Untrue. Look at the window border at the top. The height of it increases and decreases.

No, the camera is fixed to the inside of the car, or head or whatever. It is parallel with the car. It appears cars are just more sensitive to the road now, the road is modeled more precisely.

You don't even see the head tilting left or right when you pass the Lexus or the GT-R.

Why would Kazunori pay attention to such subtle head movements for?? It'll never happen.

I agree totally too.I dont want to be sea sick every time i race!

Yeah okay I respectfully withdraw my statement. Though this does make the cockpit move, which is kinda where I wanna go. But I still think it would be cool with some actual swaying. it doesn't have to be anything brutal. And as others have suggested, maybe even as an option.

I think it would take a lot more movement than I wanted anyway for it to become distracting, and especially that look at the curb thing is something I despise.

I don't know about you guys but when I used to road race my car and did some pretty hard cornering during auto crossing, my head never really moved that much. You anticipate the G-force that is going to come with the corner and brace yourself for it. It's like driving a manual car and watching the passenger's head bop back and forth during shifts while your head isn't moving much at all. Reason is because the passenger doesn't know when you're going to shift so they just sit there while you know when you're going to shift and anticipate it.

ye, my wife must have very weak neck muscles, its the funniest thing watching her constantly hit her head on the headrest :)
