Help me choose a monitor

Check out the dell 20" LCD for $470. Offer only valid through tomorrow though.

Edit: Oops, you said you need a graphics card too. You're not going to get much of a graphics card for $30.
 
I'm rather fond of the Samsung SyncMaster 913N, it uses the same panel as the L90D+ and has better contrast and brigtness. While it's only VGA I find it delivers a stunning picture with my VGA-DVI adapter (included with the graphics card) and my dual 7800GTXs.
 
Yes i will have to agree with the 913N. It was design souly to be used via VGA so does look great. However it's not new anymore so i'm sure there is something better for the same price ($300).

If you really want to spend $500 i bet you could get a beautifully fast and clear 20" display as danoff suggested, and then you start running games at 1600x1200 :P

I am very happy with the monitor I just bought.
SAMSUNG 940b-Black 19" 8ms LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 700:1 0.294mm Pixel Pitch and it was a little over $300.00
All the reviews are great. No dead pixels, and the quality is terrific. I cant wait to plug it in with the DVI cord. It will look even better then. Its supposed to be one of the top 19" monitors for games.

I got this one mmm a couple of days. It's worth the extra cash. It's a big difference compared to my t father 19 inch benQ.

Although the resolution is impressive (1600x1200@60hz) the response time is 16ms. For gaming, don't you want under 10ms? I honestly haven't compared a lot of LCD's for this application.

Other than that, the Dell UltraSharp 2001FP look killer, and it has a built in USB 4-port hub for other USB device hookups on the desktop. Very nice!

Thoughts?

I'm probably not the best person to judge this. I have yet to see an issue with response time on any monitor. Lots of talk crops up about response time, but I have yet to see it.

you won't have an issue with it unless you do a lot of fast paced gaming
 
I would think that with a 60hz refresh rate, and even at .0016 sec response time, that it would be hard if even impossible to notice a .0016 to a .0008 response time difference. Like I said though, I have not done any actual Side by Side comparisons. What experience do you have with these emad?
 
me, not as much. The guy on bytesector that usually does monitors usually doesn't reccomend anything slower than 12ms for refresh rates when it comes to video and gaming. It's not that the 60hz is slow, it's just that the monitors typically peak at twice the rated value. When they peak, you'll experience that ghosting issue people complain about. Because of that, 16 is a bit high. 12 is also high, but still reasonable. In terms of best image quality and performance, 8ms is the way to go. Faster kills the quality of the picture you see and slower might show the occasional ghosting.

If you do a lot of graphic design, a slower monitor with a focus on quality is the way to go. If you do video editing, try for CRT, otherwise go 8ms.

But it doesn't have the contrast that the Samsungs have (600:1 compared to 700:1). You can get the Samsung 940B for $510. While it is a bit pricey, you can't go wrong with Samsung monitors. I got the 913B (which I can't find anymore) and I can't fault it. And it has both VGA and DVI output, so I'm assuming the 940B has DVI.
