It's going to be a Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 Spyder.

A secret I could not keep thanks to MistaX's constant pestering.

I haven't driven a Spyder yet - I haven't actually seen one in several years - but I'm sick of people saying these things are heavy and therefore slow or poor handlers - I've driven a couple coupes in the last few weeks and they're unbelievable cars.

I've seen one once in my lifetime. It was white one and I couldn't immediately recognize it at first. So what if it weighs about 4,000 pounds!? (that comment is not directed to you... :sly: ) People never complain about a weight problem whenever they see an Escalade or a Hummer! A friend of mine had a white '94 SL 3000GT. It was OK, as far as performance was concerned. Even with a 5-speed, it didn't feel as lively as my car (or so he was forced to admit :sly: ).

It's not just yet - I bought it in Wisconsin, sight-unseen, and had it shipped to Detroit. Right now it's getting fitted with dual front, front side, and rear side airbags. When it's ready I'm leaving the auto show and driving it back to western Michigan, where I live. I got to see it for a few minutes today - mileage is great but the front bumper needs realignment and there's some other cosmetic stuff that I could stand to fix. It turned over immediately though, and the engine sounds great, so I'm looking forward to ownership.

Didn't know you could fit airbags onto a non-airbag vehicle. Just out curiosity, would it be possible to install airbags into an 88 T-Bird Turbo? :scared:
Glad to hear the turbo  Typhoon is working. 👍

Damn! How did I miss that post? Anways its a 300GT huh! Not a bad choice. But still.........NSX!........Oh well 3000GT is a great car from what I heard from a friend of my dads. He goes Autocrossing and Motocrossing and all sorts of things like that. He is pretty cool. He also has a white EVO 7 and the 300gt is green and also a Tercel. :D I think he moved to Miami area in December. He was Brazlian I believe.

Your Thunderbird? Actually perhaps - given the weight of a 3000GT and the lack of power in an SL, I can imagine that. It's a whole different ballgame in a VR-4.
You'd probably be surprised with the low-end a T-bird has...but above 3000 rpm's the engine sounds like it's suffocating.

Yeah - I haven't driven a Turbo Coupe in forever, but they are quick. And the 3000GT SL's slow, let's just admit that.

I know - but they're just so expensive. Plus we wanted a convertible and there's never been a true convertible NSX.

Heh.....you can get a 1996 NSX for like 35 000 USD with about 50 000 miles and decent condition. Get the NSX -T ! :D Let me see if I can find a 1999 Acura NSX Alex Zanardi Edition the one you want. :D

*EDIT *
Hey I might get this!
Let me see if I should bid or not? Looks pretty cool!

You sound surprised? Perhaps it was the way I worded it... I know his car is faster than my car. There is no doubt about that. Even with the boost controller my car is probably putting out ~205hp and ~250 lb.ft whereas his SL is putting out more horsepower (222) and is a lighter car by about 200 pounds or so (I think). What makes his car feel dull though is the fact that his torque is concentrated above about 4000 or so rpms and the car has a max of 198(?) lb. ft of torque. My car is weak initially (turbo lag), and then explodes on a wave of torque between 2500-4500rpm. :D I was referring to the feeling I get when accelerating, not necessarily how fast the cars are. 👍

A VR-4 would destroy my car... Unless I decide to drop in a C4, and a huge Garrett turbo... :sly: But that's not going to happen anytime soon... damn college tuition! :grumpy:

Mine won't be white - frankly at this point I'll take what I can get and of course the marquee color for these things was red.

I'm driving it home tomorrow!

Congrats! 👍

Not sure about airbags for your car - I got it done through an industrial parts supplier who typically doesn't deal with the public though with enough cash I bet the job can be done. With your car they'd have to switch out the steering wheel too. And the crash sensors aren't cheap or easy to install either. I wanted to get a rollover sensor (side airbags deploy for rollover to keep unbelted occupants in the vehicle), but they told me on the Typhoon it wouldn't be possible.

Sounds cool, but I think it would be a better investment to get my car restored rather than spend it on airbags.

I actually did get what you meant; my slowness to agree may be based on the fact that my only recent experience with either car was a 3000GT VR-4 which of course is as good as no experience at all and perhaps worse since VR-4s were obviously the performers of the bunch.

Congrats! 👍
Turbo...

Good for 320 horses new!
