my mom is buying a new car, and looking for a good sedan. not just preformance wise but reliability too, the choices have been narrowed down to (all are brand new models):

-VW passat (v6)
-nissan maxima
-nissan altima (v6)
-honda accord (v6)
-toyota camry (v6)
-volvo S60 (t5)
-subaru WRX sedan
-subaru legacy
-subaru outback sedan
-mazda 6
-Acura TSX

...thats it so far...so what do you think?? I hear the passat is top family sedan...so if you have any ideas, even suggest other cars..it would be appreciated:D

I'd probably go with a Maxima or Mazda 6. I've heard nothing but good things about the Mazda 6 and I've always been a huge fan of the Maxima. The Legacy is also a good choice, but I'd probably wait for the 2005 model. The redesign looks amazing IMO.
The WRX is a great car as well, but it doesn't have nearly as much room inside as the other cars you mentioned. It all really depends on what you're looking to get out of it. They're all great choices.

i would go for the most practical thing which would probally be the: maxina, altima, camry, acoord or the passat. but if i where to choose the car for ur mom to buy, i would havt to choose the camry because of its smooth ride and its luxerious comfort. And i wouldnt choose somthin like a LanEvo or anything in the breed of cars because i dont think ur mom knows how to drive stick (most moms dont) and it is not practical for anyone besides a guy who is looking for a sedan-sports car that is afordable to the comon man, but for any mom to own a car like that... Cool

new accord V6 is very fast run mid 14s. so that might be one of your choices, but for the price i would rather have the WRX sedan.

I recently took car of a woman who was in a nasty Head-on collision in one of the above named sedan. Her passenger had only broken wrists, she had a broken leg, but no other major injuries. So for safety/survivability, I would say the Nissan Maxima

screw it all.. get a Mitsubishi Evolution or Subaru Impreza STi :D its a 4 door 4seater, awd, and TURBOCHARGED **evil laughter**

 Yeah.. wonder how fast his mom's gonna give up the car and give it to him eh? ;)

Just to add..

The Mazda6S has given my dad some troubles... partly because he went crazy BEFORE the break-in period was over... but anyway..
ever since fixing.. it's fine~ Just recently went up to Seymour Mountain to ski - Handles snowy roads like they're nothing!

Mazda 6 has been winning awards all over the place so it would be a very good choice, but you can't go wrong with Accord, Camry, or Maxima as they are all excellent cars.

wow.....thanks for the responces, yeah...I can see her diriving somthing too sporty, thats why I was thinking the passat, it has a nice interior!!! like new bmw quality!! but the again, I her to get a sporty one because of when it gets hannded down...he he he...

oh... and I should add the acura TSX, you think???

For those cars...if I was really looking for a Sedan for my FAMILY...then I would probably go with the Volvo S60. Then again, for around that price, you could probably also get a G35, which is spacious enough for 4 adults (my bro who is 6'4 can fit back there without bangin his head). But out of all those, the Volvo, Passat, and TSX....in that order would be my picks.

The Volvo just because Volvos own! Nah not really but Volvos have great safty and are appealing to most people, not to mention the nice amount of power. Swedish cars are great.

what about an IS300 or a gs400? toyota makes great sedans.
ohh and might i suggest the audi a4? great car IMHO

but to pick from your list, the wrx would have to be my pick

edit: for some reason i said saab a4:confused: :banghead:

A GS400 is waaay out of range compared to the prices of the other cars. Question...how big does she want it to be? Because all in all, the IS300 is a very good addition to the list, and Lexus cars last forever.

Well if we are going to add cars I'm going to suggest a Caddy CTS. Talk about a nice car. Or if that doesn't suit you there is the Lincoln LS which I might add is better then a BMW.

Ooh, I forgot about the CTS. I love the CTS even though I've heard that a lot of people don't like the styling. The LS is nice too, but I'm more of a Caddy fan myself.

The best car of a family to drive, I'll get the Accord, it has the best overall reviews by magazines, and it is the perfect balance between sport-luxury-reliable base of transportation. Mazda6, WRX, LanEvo are too performance oriented. The Subarus and the TSX are too small or expensive. Altima and Maxima have those cheapish interiors and the fuel economy suck in their class. Passat and the S60 has its own major downsides, like the cost of maintaining those cars and way too expensive to purchase those type of cars.

But if you like more upscale alternative I'll get the Acura's new TL, for US$35,000 (loaded) it has everything you can think of, plus a a state of the art sound system unlike anything in its class, and a DVD-ROM navi system with Bluetooth technology.

its got to have a good amount of room...for 5 people, me my dad and my brother are all 6 ft+ , so ample head room, and she doesn't mind good preformance, (when she was younger she owned a muscle car...not sure witdh one..but i know it was plymoth\dodge and it was standard) so thats not a worry, only problem is that my dad is getting a wrx so that ones off the list....I got to go to the passat test drive...and that thing is soooooo smooth!!! fantastic interior!!....

anyway thanks for all the responces...you guys are such a help!!!:D :D :D

If Lexus comes to mind, the IS300 is a bit too cramped for family use, the ES330 is a more suitable alternative, but adding all those features will jack up the price to the near-$40,000 range.

In the near-luxury class (FWD category) I will still pick the Acura TL.

Yes, the Acura TL is a very good pick, but the G35 can be had nicely for around 30k. Its performance oriented, but has a lot more room than you'd think.
