Was playing the Ferrari Professional challenge in A-Spec mode. Just as I crossed the finish line first in my 458 Italia.....nothing happened. The car slowed to 80 and then continued around the track for a full lap. No button worked instead of Start which just paused/unpaused the screen and myself and the AI just continued snail-pacing around the track. Let it run for a bit in the hope it would solve itself but no such luck.

Resigned to the fact I'd lose the win (it's a relatively short and easy race anyway), I tried to quit the game through the PS button. The playstation attempted to quit the game but just got stuck, and I ended up doing a hard reset.

At this point I was starting to get a little worried. Turned my PS3 off and ejected the GT5 disc in the hope it would work when I started it up, but no such luck. The PS3 starts up perfectly fine, however when I inserted GT5....nothing showed up. It's like I hadn't put the disc in.

This definitely got me worried, and I tried to put a DVD in to see if it was a GT5 disc problem.... and that didn't work either.

Anyone know what's happened to my PS3/know how to fix it?

PS: Before you say that "it's broken", think a bit and if you don't really know and you are assuming it's a hardware fault, don't post. Thanks for the help everyone!

So the only problem right now is that discs are not working?

I would leave it off for a bit then try again, if it isn't detecting other discs though it may be a blu-ray drive problem.

Pull the power for a few minutes and try again?

Agreed. I had this happen when I first got Grand Theft Auto. The game froze but the sound kept going so I did a hard shut down. Then it wouldn't let me play games. I shut it off. Disconnected all power and put a fan on it for 5 or 10 minutes. Then plugged it all back in and it worked fine, no problems since and that was probably 2 years ago. I have an original 20GB. (Now upgraded to 320!)

Edit: Just saw your answer. Try a DVD and a CD and see if that works. Could be the reading device is damaged or dirty if neither of those work. Not sure what it is if they do! Haha.

Thanks for the help guys, don't think it's overheated but nevertheless, I'll leave it off for a bit and unplug it and HOPEFULLY something goes right for me.

If it doesn´t work after the suggestions by some in the thread, you have a faulty BR drive, if it´s out of waranty you can get a new spare part online and fix it yourself or have someone do it for you!

Sorry man but it happens i´m still waiting on my ps3 to die it´s been good to me as it runs 24/7 364 days a year and been doing so for 4 years now, well except for the restarts for updates. :)

Hope you get it fixed!

Me too, I am amazed at the longevity of these things. My buddy bought an Xbox the same exact day as when I got my 20Gb fatty and I am still using it and he is on his 4th Xbox due to red rings. I also play mine a lot more than he uses his.

On the BR Drive, I have heard that a small computer shop can do it for relatively cheap. Hopefully it is just overheating or dirt though.

I had a few things happen, fully on freezes that don't stop the game. Just, really, unplug your power. And play again!

Unplugged it for around 20 minutes and tried again... no luck.

Might have to look at cleaning it maybe? How would I do that?

Otherwise seems like a repair shop or a new system is imminent. :(

Could be something as small and simple as a dirty Eye. It Happens. Get some compressed air, Give it a shot. Honestly its all a matter of process of elimination.

Good Luck

Put the disc in a few times and listened, couldn't hear anything and the disc came out the same way up as when I put it in a few times, seems like the disc might not be spinning i.e. drive motor is broken...

Sounds like it. The Drive is fairly easy to replace but if your not a DIY kinda guy You options are limited to your area.

I feel for you man I really do. Good Luck and keep us up to date.
It could of been worse. You could own an XBox
