Help! Serious error (startup)...

Once Windows has booted and loaded, my computer has a very tempermental patch. If I do any thing at all (ie wiggle the mouse, open a file etc) in this period, the computer locks up and restarts, producing above error. (Sometimes it freezes by itself) :mad:

The error report says the error was caused by the nVidia graphics driver. I have tried the latest driver for my card (it was dated '04) a while ago.

Upping the page filing to 384MB solved the problem for about a month, then all of a sudden, it returns. :grumpy:

Does anybody know why?

My system is as follows:

AMD Athlon 1200+
32MB nVidia Riva TNT2 Model 64
128MB RAM (384MB PF)
40GB Maxtor (4D040H2, whatever that means)
XP Home

Your amount of ram looks kinda low for running XP, but i dont think thats it.
 
I think the computer needs a good upgrading anyways. Maybe consider buying a new computer as the solution? It will benefit you greatly (1200+ Processor, 32mb Graphics, and 128MB of RAM is in in way shape or form up to date). Your HDD is probably salvagable though.

But if you can't do that, have you installed any drivers or programs other than the nVidia drivers at/near the time this started?
 
I get those every once in a while. I never have any problems. I don't know what causes it. It just says that it is a bad driver error on some device on my PC that it can't detect.
 
Not sure if this is relavent but it may reveal something:

What type of monitor are you running (CRT or LCD) and at what resolution?

You might also want to try and have no desktop background and as few icons on the desktop as possible - this'll give your processor more chance to load important files (like your driver) rather than try and render your image and all your icons.

Just something to try.

Yeah, I get them for no reason sometimes too. I never read them or send them so don't know what they're about.

I just say WTF, no it hasn't! :lol:
 
I submit them, but I am pretty sure it is useless. Most of the time I don't even know something happened. My computer will turn off fine and everything. The next day I start it up, log in, and I get this serious error message. It is like nothing even happened!

17in CRT, running at 1024 x 768. (HP mx70 CRT, btw, if that helps, PC is a HP Pavilion 8960)

MachOne: The PC is about 4 years old (I think, still under a 5 year SuperCover warranty), being the only computer we have (barring the 8mb RAM Win95 piece of ****) I don't think saying "This computer is broken, we need a new one" is the best option :D
 
I think I've had a problem similar to this. With my current motherboard in my windows box, I cannot use the latest version of the Forceware drivers (due to some really weird conflict with either my graphics drivers or windows installer 3.1). What I did to solve that problem was I installed older versions of the Forceware drivers until I found a version that does not cause problems with my windows install.

You might consider running an older version of the nVidia graphics driver to see if that solves your problem. I'm not entirely sure that will solve your problem though since it is a different problem from mine.
 
Last time I checked (a while ago), the most recent drivers for my card were 2004.

I'll go check if there's a more recent one now.
