I'm straight, but I stayed in Toronto this summer. As well as being the most ethnically diverse city in the world, there is a huge gay community there.

One street performer said it was "the worst place in the world to be a racist or a bigot."

But then one would become Canadian.

But being serious, they shouldn't have to move. The people that need to move are the ones being intolerant, and agressive. Put them all on a island in the middle of nowhere, and let them fight amongst each other.

Is that a problem? My goal is to eventually become resident in Canada.

No, you're right. They shouldn't have to move. However, there is no harm in moving somewhere else to have a better life. If he doesn't have many ties to home and enjoys living elsewhere, then there is no harm in it.

Have you considered moving somewhere where you won't have a constant fear of offending small minded people or getting your head kicked in?

Would be nice, but financially it proves difficult to move, failing a lottery win. The problem is, in Birmingham we have large sections of Asians (who use religion as a basis for homophobia) and blacks (who use culture as a basis for homophobia). I would love to not have to worry, but I've seen it myself, and heard stories from others, of abuse to make me feel comfortable.

This may sound stupid, but does such a thing as heterophobia exist within some sections of the gay community?

Not really, no. Apart from the real bull dykes, but then they hate everyone , especially men. But if there is a thing as dislike (rather than hate or phobia), it seems to be reserved for bisexuals (who are viewed as greedy). The reverement, at least as I have seen it, is for transsexuals, who have the guts to really stand out from the crowd and be who they are.

No, it's true. I had a gay friend of mine slapped in the face and his balloon popped by one, just because he had a balloon. Go figure...

Your gay friend must have mistaken her for a him.

Well, the massive tatty bojangles she had were a bit of a giveaway, but you were close considering the short hair and the tattoos on her arm.

I'm heterosexual but I have no problem with the orientation of people. My uncle is gay, one of my friends is gay, and my sister joined a group at her college that supports the whole gay, bi, and transexual communities so my family is very accepting.

You could always save up. If you really want to move elsewhere. Depending on your qualifications/experience there are a few non EU countries that are gay friendly. Then of course, you have the likes of Paris or Berlin.

You're never going to be 100% shielded from homophobia, but you do have options if you'd like to make things a little easier for yourself.

In response to some of the unnecessary comments from earlier..

- It isn't a case of knowing little about the real world, or the virtual one.. I simply lack knowledge with anything of a sexual nature.. That does not give one the right to pass me off as a troll, or make mild remarks..

If you're genuinely leading such a sheltered existence that at your age you don't know what these words mean - and that's functionally impossible unless you're locked in a basement

Not exactly true..

Perhaps I have been brought up in a way that I haven't been educated on sex.. Maybe I have been considered too young, by the Government education system, or the Parental one.. We only get taught the basics at school..

I'm in no rush either, I believe such concepts are disgusting..

Irrelevant.

To reach the age you claim without ever having heard the word "heterosexual" is utterly preposterous - somehow avoiding it in all forms of media (quite what your parents and "the government" have to do with anything escapes me) despite having apparently unmonitored access to the internet. Even if it's true, GTPlanet is not the place to ask the definitions of words when you have the entire internet full of dictionary websites - I gave you the two best for sensible words and slang.

Yet 4 months ago the only thing you were interested in was sex education...

trololololol

As said before, you are online. The internet, or Google, is your friend. Stop acting like you don't know how a search engine works.

Sjeez, Double tree'd.

I'm hetrosexual. Unfortunately the only experience I've had with a gay has been bad. (I believe he's the only person that I know who is openly gay.) I had to work with this guy at uni and he had it out for me. However I think that was related to opposing opinions rather than his sexuality.

I don't have a problem with them, I mean it's less competition for the ladies.
I don't think that I'd like being felt up by a guy though. I'd be flatted afterwards but probably not happy at the time.

I'm straight. That is all.

I don't have a problem with gays, however I'd prefer that they do their thing when I'm not around. I just think it's kind of wierd but other than that I have no issues.

I'm gay...Gay for those boobies!

Yeah baby.

I myself am a heterosexual, I have no problem with homosexual people. All I wonder is why some homosexuals go the whole "Gok Wan" on the situation. Why? I don't see the point...

Jai

But... Don't they have sex ed in England?
I think everyone at our school knows what it means, we even had it as homework a couple years ago. And regarding the thread, I'm supersexual. Of course. :p

Now to find out what that means...

I don't either. I see nothing attractive in men who are basically trying to be women. I want my men to be men!

Honestly, I really don't have time for all this..

To put it simply: I don't know what Heterosexual means, I will look it up when I do have the time - You ask about how the Government could be involved? They essentially fund the schools, and establish the curriculum.. Parents, well, they basically just answer your questions..

@FishyJuice - Yes, they do. However, there are a lot of terms that haven't been covered.. Explaining my lack of knowledge..

One more thing before I go to bed.. Someone at school told me that a man comes in next year and shows thing off, as a part of the lesson.. I don't believe in that, after thinking about it.. What would happen if one did..?

Jai, you're in your 8th or 9th year in school. When I started learning about Sex Ed I was in 5th year!

Okay, okay. Still seems a bit odd, but I guess it differs fairly much. But you should be able to find out in about 0.001 seconds what it is. Here, here, here and here.

/off-topic

EDIT: Damn. Tree'd. Twice.

I'm gonna stop now.
