Switching from the NSX to the Lexus and within 2 laps I've dropped 7 tenths off my quali.

It's a shame really, because I was really gelling with the Honda, but the time I was required to make up in the corners wasn't worth the hassle for always getting dragged into defending once the straights arrive. I know there's pace in the NSX, but I've been experiencing the dreaded "non-meta destruction" from anyone who doesn't understand performance differences. This race is too long for me to risk getting sent to the realm and all the consequences that come with it.

Top combo!

I think my biggest problem was I was nursing a major hangover from the weekend, my birthday is tomorrow but ironically because I drive for a living i might actually be a bit more on the ball tomorrow 🤣🤣 M4 is actually good Craig, I'm slow but it is fun 😁

After a few laps got my QT down to 53.8, Guru and I were both kinda right, that was good enough for anywhere from p1 to p5 in B rooms.

Bit of a torrid night, I have one dumb crash every race, best finish was p2 but should have done better. I am very slow in that fiddly section before the bridge, lost 4 tenths or so through there every lap against a guy I was racing pretty close.

On the physics, I'm really happy with the update, the extra grip on RH is very welcome and it seems like they've taken away the need to coast? (I could be wrong on this) but it seems trail braking deeper into the corner and then getting on the gas with minimal coasting seems to be quicker on T1 and the left hander after the bridge in my experience.

Think I'm settled on my QT now with a 1.52.9xx I think I could get this down to a .6 or .7 if I grinded the TT but that would take hours and hours of frustration and I'd prefer to race I think.

The 3 lads at the top of the leaderboard with a time in the 1.50's are insane

I'm jealous of all you guys being able to switch cars, seems like I'm a one trick pony

haha offfhhh VR with a hangover would send me over the edge I think, my short stint with VR through the corkscrew at Laguna Seca when I was feeling 100% nearly brought my dinner up!!!

Nic mate, well done.

On the turn just before the bridge, I've found braking a touch earlier and being a bit more feathery on the throttle is giving me better times as if I try and brake late I either fly over to the bump or have to overslow and lose all exit speed.

Can't remember when I won last with my main a/c! It might've been here at St. Croix all the way in March when my DR rose to 40k+.

For my less confident driving style, the NSX Concept suits the most as it's a little understeery & stable. I know it's a little slow with acceleration but this car helped me claim my first victory in months. The gap to 2nd, 3rd & 4th placed drivers is part them fighting too much with one another & part me pitting one lap before them for RM. I took a gamble & it worked despite being in the slower car.

My next preferred car is the Nismo. Fast & feels planted on turns. Although, it gets nervous on bumps. Will mainly stick with this car & the NSX. Hoping I can make amends with the Audi.

I was so excited to try the RC F as this car seems to be the meta. It is fast but doesn't suit my driving style as it's a little slippery as an eel & hard to handle. My first race was with this car & I finished 5th which was satisfactory to me.

I'm eager to try the Audi but having to manually use DRS for the whole race seems like a deal breaker for me. But as per TyrannoCyrusRex, Audi's tyre wear is the best. So will race with it once for sure.

You think the Lexus is more slippery than the Nissan? I dunno man, feels a little more planted to me.

@Stringerbell I agree there's less need for coasting, which works for me as it was a dark art mastering how much you needed to coast in the past. It's only week 1, but previously when i did a data overlay i'd see the top guys smoother than me, but for this event, they are braking later AND on the gas earlier than me so being very aggressive rather than focusing on mid corner speed.

It surely is a good car Mate which is why it's the meta. I found the car more nervous with my style of driving + I se a controller. The Nismo also gets nervous but I find the Nismo having a bit more downforce which gives me confidence around some tricky turns. The NSX is the best in terms of downforce but it lacks acceleration (not top end).

I even struggled with the Audi. Again, the car is great but sadly like the RC F, it doesn't suit me. So will keep shuffling between NSX & Nismo only.

Not raced online in over a year. Did some qualifying laps for race C in the RC and best I could muster is a 54.7. Tried one race which put me second to last in an A+ lobby, simply not good enough. Managed to pass 3 cars then the 4th spun out and I hit him a fraction of a second before he ghosted which ruined the race.
Clearly not taking advantage of the new physics. Watched a few replays of the fastest drivers and they don't seem to trailbrake or coast anywhere near as much as I do

THIS! I am as fast as anyone on track on mediums, often the fastest in B rooms, but the hards, goodness, just get swallowed up.
It’s amazing the difference and I think 🤔 the difference is exaggerated by the Lexus. When I started the daily race C I don’t recall the difference being as big with the Nismo.
Which car are you using NN? 🤠

Hmmmmmmmm. A LOT of cars "crabbing" in the Group3 race, do you know if they were controller users? By crabbing i mean the car sort of wobbling left to right, like it loses front grip then gains it on the rear then the opposite happens really quickly. I usually see this on modded road cars without a sticky enough tyre.

I wonder if this ties in with the comments that you can over turn the wheel and the car now turns rather than understeers off, as in is this being seen because the drivers are entering too fast but just keep turning now? It's definately there in your video, really clear on the cars you are close behind, distinct "crabbing".
It's difficult to say what the cause is at the moment, I'd have to analyse my own driving from someone elses perspective on their replay to see if it's network related, physics related or controller related. One thing is though the second you lift in Gr.3 the car just turns in like you've gained a ton of grip.

Autopolis is underrated this week. I’ve been pleasantly surprised at the diversity of competitive cars. I have personally had good runs with three different ones.

First took the AMG GT3 TT gift car for a spin, but never found a good pace in a short qualifying. Nevertheless, turned a Q15 into a P8.

Next I tried the previous race winner WRX and I was blown away how well it rotated and stuck on corner exit. Maybe a benefit of the physics update. Turned a Q10 around into a P4 finish.

But today was the interesting race in the Hyundai Genesis. I qualified only Q9 on what I thought was a decent DR B time of 1:51.023. Not a bother, though. Fast forward to the hairpin on lap 1 and a timely multi car crash collision allowed me to sneak through cleanly to P4, soon to be P3 as I passed my eventual nemesis for the race on the inside.

From here, the race didn’t have drama until the last lap when we were both fighting for P2. I was in the lead but he was gaining steadily on pace to close the gap to 0.3 or so. At the hairpin, he clipped me on a lunge causing me to go wide and cede position.

I maintained my cool and tightened my lines until I was able to pull 3/4 up along inside of him on last turn. He must not have expected me because he turned into me leading to yawing understeer allowing me to skate under him for P2. It was almost exact role reversal from the previous contact.

I feel a little conflicted wondering if I caused the last collision. Was I divebombing? Not turning deep enough to create space? Still, P9 to P2 was a great result.

I haven't seen much discussion regarding the dirty air situation since the latest update.

Given that Group 2 is notoriously badly affected by air turbulence, I was wondering what people's opinions are now that we have a Super GT race on the dailies.

I haven't had too much experience in high downforce cars recently, so I'm not in a position to make a decent assessment myself.

What's everyone's experiences?

Can I get help with my builds
You can look in the GT7 Tuning sub-forum for tips. Alternatively, try using the search bar and typing in the car you're looking to find a build for.

This is the Online Daily Race thread, and as tuning races in GT7 are few and far between, may not be the optimal place to be looking.

Drat.......

Whilst I absolutely love St. Croix & can't resist racing here, I also am trying to lose DR organically to fall into DR B category so I can join Manu event in GT2 league. This mainly because GT2 offers upto 10 time slots whereas Gtt1 just offers 3 (for my timezone it is 22:30, 00:30 & 02:30) which You can see is so inconvinient.

So I was taking it easy in my latest race with my alt a/c. Despite finishing 9th, my DR increased while those above & below me suffered a DR decrease. I believe all this because most of them were aggressive with one another while I give way to anyone behind me & that's faster.

Got race C QT down to 1:53.9 which is an improvement but still want it in the 52s. Realised I wasn't downshifting fast enough. Think I'm braking too hard though so I've added more brake force to the loadcell. I can stay on pace with the fastest in the world for turn 1 and it's all downhill from there lol

Edit: Just as I say that I got it down to 1:53:622 which puts me at 2216th on the leaderboard. Not sure if that's enough for a competitive A+ race or more of an A pace these days

Two stop strategy appears to work well in Race C - I've seen people dumping the hards after one lap, and then two lots of mediums, today the guy on pole did two lots of mediums then hards for the last lap for the win.
Yeah was wondering if that was worth a shot. There's like 2 seconds a lap difference for me on that hard tyre if I am not totally dialed in. The math is tight.
It would be best to start on RH & then have 2 stints on RM. Practical to switch from slower tyre to faster tyre for rhythm instead of vice versa.

I saw Calster 25 do this in his stream on Monday. To make it work, one has to be consistently fast during all the 12 laps.

Yeah looking at the maths I don't think it makes sense. Let's say you are 2 seconds a lap faster to be generous and normally run a 5 Lap hard, 7 lap soft strategy.

  • 4 laps x 2 seconds = 8 seconds saved by running the second set of M and not having to run the hard
  • 3 laps x 1 second or so = 4 to 5 seconds saved by not having so much wear on your M tyres
That's a best case of 12 seconds and I feel a stop is longer than that.

I think they didn't change it, I mean "custom" and "weak" (wich is absurdly the most powerful) are by design not affected from dirty air. "Real" should be the one where the dirty air comes in to play. I believe that, if there's any difference, it might be seen in the manufacturer's events.

True Mate. Calster 25 who is DR S rated said that even though a 2 stop strat can work, it's not the ideal one.

Do You run a 7RH & 5RM strat? I used to follow this myself but after seeing Calster, I realised in any car, 5RH & 7RM is ideal. I'm on a controller so my front left tyre is as good as gone on lap 12. If You're on a wheel, You can get better results & performance. With Audi, You can even pit on lap 4 for switching to RMs.

No I run the opposite, 7M and 5H. The hard is brutal, just cannot lay on the gas, lose so much time on exit.
You opt for such a stat always or when starting from top 3 only? I always start with the harder compound as transition from hard to soft feels progressive rather than other way around.

Loving St. Croix. I's a lovely flowing track.

For wheel users are you turning the wheel 90 degrees at times or is that too brutal on the tyres?
My QT of 1:53:662 put me dead last on the start grid, so I need to shave at least 1.5 seconds off that and I'm struggling to see where I can get that much time off. Given the long layoff I suspect I'll drop down a rank or 2 until I brush up on my skills.
Pretty wild that I take close to 2 years off from Sport mode and as soon as I join a race I see some of the same usernames I remember being in the same lobby as way back then. TurismoZ and FDR Twitch Slayer or something like that. I wonder if they've literally been racing regularly all this time, or if they go through phases of GT7 then moving on to other games.

It's a travesty none of us would use the CLK '98 at all. A legend in the past GT versions now just a shadow of its former self....
I have been sorely tempted, also by the FINA McLaren F1. But I was badly burned on an older car when mistakenly racing the Xanavi which is completely neutered by the BOP. Maybe those two legends escaped this fate?

Top 3 is a RM start for sure, top 5, depends on the QT times around me. You need to start on RM if near the front, there's way, way too much poor driving from lower on the grid, absolutely zero patience and almost always nerfed off by someone on mediums if I start RH too high.
