We actually thought about getting a generator while on vacation, when we stopped in Lafayette, LA, at the Honda Motorcycle dealer. They had all of the genators...pretty cool. The only problem with the generator is that you have to have a switch to either have power from the normal lines, or have power from the generator. If you are on the generator, and the power through the normal powerplants comes on, it can cause some damage. Then also, you have to have gas, then if you run out of gas you need to go to a gas station that has power, causing you to waste gas for your car.

Really, you are kinda better off just sitting through it, though I can see it very usefull to have a small generator for refridgerators and freezers. One power outage here was a pretty wide-spread one, and so we ate here. We all had hotdogs on our gas grill. It was a good meal actually.

While on the subject of power, I should explain that this house, when we first moved in(3 years before I was born), the previous owners had really crappy electrical work. They had 1 circut for the whole house, my parents say that when they would use the microwave the TV would turn off. Also, in the basement there was a hanging cieling(well, Aspestos nailed to the floor joists), and when my dad took that down(again, before I was born), they found electical connections smashed into glass jars at various points throughout the floor joists. There was also evidence of electrical fires. My dad put in another circut for the garage/diningroom(I think that's where part of it goes) since my dad has a huge air compressor in a corner of the garage(which is great), and we use some heavy tools and stuff. Now we are virtually electrical problem free, though since my dad put in a 3 prong outlet in my room(all of the 3 outlets in my room were 2 prongers), when I use my old Presario and go to connect it to the PS2 via the Sharkport, you can make the end of the USB spark against the metal of the Presario, since my dad didn't bother to hook up the ground correctly.

And since we will be doing a huge kitchen remodel in a few weeks, we will be sure to find more iffy electrical work. I'll take pics.

I type too much. :(

OK, TOURIST. The trains run NORTH-UPTOWN from the station to the Hudson. To Westchester County & CT!

Time for my comment:
It's a terrorist attack. That's what I think.

Seriously though, there's going to be a bit of looting going in now unfortunately. Most of the power is back up now though, isn't it? I saw the news this morning, so many people evacuating or something, is that because they're scared of the looting? Because it would be quite simple to survive without power for a day, but if you were really paranoid (like me) you'd evacuate for fear of looters.

I'm impressed and proud that things went as they did. All around good behavior and community with only isolated problems 👍

So did Toronto. I'm sure every city did. There's always assholes. But it was nothing like in 1977 when 3800 people were arrested just in New York.

Well then why the hell would it cross the Hudson? Westchester County is due north of Bronx and the only river it would cross is the Harlem.

Do you know anything?

And even then, Park is only divided to 96th.

I have a generator! (Three, in fact... one main one for power, one for water pumping, and one backup). So, what do you have to say to that, HMMMMM?

No! You can support Apple by buying one though.

The generator powers my iBook, and the other one gives me water so I can take 20-minute showers. What don't you understand?!?

BTW, more topic-related: How's that part of the country doing now? Do they have all power back?

Yeah, and that's a 50+block stretch! Not to mention that that's where the surface rises too high above the tunnel to continue the vents like that (Did you not notice the large hill?).
Furthermore the train runs ON the S-E SHORE of the Hudson!

Actually, I was wrong earlier. It's divided from 33rd, which is odd since Grand Central is is at 42nd-45th. So it's 63 blocks.

The Southeast shore? There's only an east and west shore. :p And better yet, you've just admitted I'm right and that it doesn't run UNDER the Hudson since it runs ON the shore.

HA HA HA!

I undestand you don't come on AIM except to talk to Duke but you're willing to sit around on GTP talking to lan.

Hanker- They say NYC will be 100% tomorrow. NJ is almost 100% now & Cleveland is about 50% now. I dont know about the rest.
Doug- When did I ever say the train went under the Hudson?
