hi im new, want to know about update

hi im in the uk, i havent got the ps3 online, i wanted to use the gamesaves but none seem to work, do i need a game update or something, if so, how? cos i havent got it online...

ps i bought the ps3 game pack with gt5 prologue on disc ..

Yes, you probably need an update. If you can download the game saves, you might be able to find the updates for the game somewhere also, and download them the same way you are the game saves.
Why are you wanting to use the game saves? It doesn't take that long to beat the game without them. I have a 45-50 hour a week job, and a 2 year old kid, and with the little amount of time I have found to play the game I have almost completed it. If you use the game saves there will be nothing left to do in the game.
 
Why haven't you got the PS3 online ???

Yes you need to update GT5P

And you'll probably get a firmware update for the PS3 too
 
thanks for the replys, well i have completed the game, i just wanted to try out the higher priced cars etc...:):):)

its not on the internet cos i dont have a router or anything, unless you can plug it into your pc somehow???
 
Nup, I went through the same angst you are and just went and bought a wireless router...some of the best money spent 👍

If you don't have a router and your PC still connects to the internet via rj45 cable then you can connect both only if you have 2 ethernet connections on the back of the PC ( 1 on the motherboard and 1 as a PCI card ) .. If you only have 1 then you can simply take the cable from the PC and connect it into the PS3 instead and just have each unit online at seperate times ;)

Picking up a router would be the ideal scenario though for race arranging with friends on chat programs 👍
 
are these the connections on the pc marked in red, so do i get a lead from them to the ps3 then??

Run the cable directly from your modem into the onboard ethernet slot on your mother board and connect the PS3 into the PCI ethernet card, then go to your desktop and right click the LAN connections tab and then click properties,
Then you will see a tab open with your internet connection from your supplier, right click on that and click properties again ... a new tab will open with some tabs, click the advanced tab and you should see a share with other computers option! check that and apply .. ok everything on the way out and the final ok will say it wont be shared until you reconnect! disconnect from the internet and reconnect and you should have internet access available to both the PC and the PS3, might need a little configuring but it should work out fine 👍


Sorry mate I just saw your pictures and the 2 parts you marked are not ethernet ports! they are firewire and wont work, the PCI slot above it has a LAN card with rj45 ethernet on the left hand side and a simple 56k modem on the right, If you have another ethernet slot on the motherboard you will be in business! but if thats the only one you will need a router to get both on at once.

Those look like firewire, not ethernet, ports. Unless EU ethernet cables connect differently.


Also, before a mod says it I will point out that you triple posted. If you wish to add something and no one else has posted please use the edit button at the bottom of your last post.

It's just easier on our eyes and the mods won't harass you about it.

Yeah sorry I edited that part! I meant modem :)

If your modem has USB connection to the PC then the ethernet port will be free and you can just connect the PS3 to the PCI card and follow the instructions above to configure them 👍

Go get a long enough ethernet cable (type CAT5, if I'm not mistaken). Ethernet connectors do look a bit like phone line connectors, but are not.

The PS3 has an ethernet socket on the back (just like the one on your PC)
 
ok ive now got a lead they are connected together, the little leds are on on both the pc socket and ps3 socket, but the one on the pc keeps going on and off and a little message comes up saying LOCAL AREA CONNECTION a network cable is unplugged....

geez why cant these things just be plug in and work....:grumpy::grumpy::grumpy:
 
Sounds like you need to setup the ps3 to use the connection - try the settings menus. If it's not that then it's a bad lead.
 
I have to unplug my modem (power off) and then power back up again when I switch from using it with the computer to using it with the PS3. This basically "resets" the modem so it will properly communicate with the ps3 instead of the computer. Leave your cable hooked to the ps3, power down the computer, wait 30 sec or so, and then power it back up and see if the ps3 can connect.

I'd guess so - cant remember offhand but you'll want to choose 'ethernet' if you see the option.

Superwally - he's connecting PS3 to PC and connection sharing - modem wont be affected.
 
thats it ive give up, tried setting on the pc for shared connection, the ps3 internet test comes up as failed....

why do they make it like this, :(
 
You've reset the PC since you turned on sharing?
 
yes restarted it a few times and the ps3...:(
 
You got a crossover patch cable?

It shouldn't matter because your pc nic will probably be doing autocross but it's possible it's not.

But do you not need a crossover cable, instead of a straight forward ethernet cable to share the connection ?
 
er it just says network patch cable....

so have i got the wrong one?

i asked the guy in the shop aswell, looks like its just a straight through one then..
 
Go back and change it if you can. Best to rule out the possibility.

if you look at the ends and can see the wires inside the connectors the colours should be in a different order when you're looking at them.
 
Or better still if you the funds get yourself a router
 
Buy a router with a built in modem.
It's way more reliable than any usb modem.

yeah ive looked they are wired the same, its just a straight connection:(:grumpy:
 
Could be your problem. A lot of pc nic's will automaticall handle the crossover for ya but some don't - you could be one of the unlucky ones
