I was wondering how many of you used very powerful cars for drifting. It's probably a bit too easy sometimes, being able to 'floor' it and get more angle on demand. It can be a challenge to rein it all in, though.hehe

I really enjoy driving my Aston Martin V8 Vantage(996hp) and X540 Chaser(840hp). Both are on super softs, and I can still get plenty of wheelspin and smoke. Lots of fun, and looks great in replays. I'm also in the process of fine-tuning a full-power Viper GTS(1080hp). I have a TVR Speed 12(838hp), but it's so big and hard to keep in control. Needs more tuning/practice.

I'm best with my Cobra R and Vanquish with 700+hp and super slicks. My friend just went from a 475hp S14 to a 709hp RX-7 RS to a 1058hp Supra. As he practices more, he'll probably get used to the Supra's power.

I plan on trying a Pagani Zonda C12 soon. There's one just sitting around in my garage, bone stock. The C12S and Racer are modded for racing, so I'll try to drift the basic car.

Anyone else like lots of power?

*raises hand* I rarely ever use less than max power in my drift cars. I've only recently started using sim tires which require lower power but almost all of my experience with GT3 drifting entails high power (or max power) FR's and 4WD. I like the swift reflexes and predetermined lines required to drift high power on super slicks and sports.

As far as getting more angle on demand? Yeah right... my cars don't produce more angle on command at all. If I didn't take the turn right to begin with... I have very very little to help save the turn.

But I enjoy it because I enjoy drifting the inside and drifting at high speeds which I am neither experienced with nor am sure is possible on SIMS.

I tried the "stock on sims" thing. Wasn't bad. Used an S2000 first, then an RX-7 RZ. They didn't quite have the power I wanted.

On a whim I went with an Aston Martin DB7 Vantage. It's wonderful!! The DB7 doesn't totally overwhelm the sims, and I can still get some good wheelspin and angle. It was actually the first car I was able to link Apricot Hill's first two corners with. I guess 413hp might count as high-powered drifting, at least on sim tires. Now I'm tempted to try my other Vanquish or buy another V8 Vantage and use sims.

400 hp isn't much if your using an RX or a 4WD... For the RX-7 thats the usual hp range, and 4WD I have no idea... The reason they didn't have the power to support your style is because you depended on high hp since the beginning ( not that there is anything wrong with it) work on your style and you will eventually be able to drift any car ;)

power drifting is okay i guess. i have... 700 hp FD, it's fun. i have... 800hp R34, it's okay.
whatever.

I have a few high HP drift cars that are fun to take out from time to time...

Supra RZ 912HP (soft)
R34 GTR 1000HP (sports)

among others...

It's fun to use the high HP beasts sometimes but it doesn't take as much skill IMO, compared to low HP on sims... I tend to have more fun with the mid power cars on sports (or normals), and the low powered cars on sims the best... The control is so much smoother, and usually makes for a more aesthetically pleasing replay...

I started of drifting with high HP cars... then I tuned them down after switching to Sims... funny nough, most of the cars you have mentioned, I actually used in a vid...

Check it out...

High Power

i drift all my cars on sims like tommy kaira zz2 stock 542 hp on simsne thing can be drifted whethe rit be high hp or low hp on sims just depends on ur drifting skills

I started drifting with high powered cars on super softs. Now I drift mainly on sims, but sometimes I try that monsters. They're very funny to drive.

In terms of getting more angle on demand I really didn't se that much of a difference between high and mid horse power cars. The huge difference is in torque. The camaro SS suprised the hell out of me on the long corner in Apricot hill. I realized I was holding a drift at about 3000rpm. Any time I started to staighten out I just threw in more throttle. But I think it is better to learn to drift in low powered cars.

I usually use my Skyline R33, 942hp, on medium soft, or my 3000GT using medium tires to drift, its alot of fun, but im practicing on lowered hp cars now.

I didn't have a problem with actually drifting the S2000 and RX-7 RZ on sims. It just didn't feel as fun as the other cars. At the time, my Cobra R was on mixed tires(super soft front, super slick rear), and was a blast. I was just used to getting pretty crazy with my drifts, and the "stock on sims" thing just felt a little boring in comparison.

Yes, it is very fun. My V8 Vantage was the very first drift car I tried to build. It was horrible trying to tune it on my own, but 9 months later, I finally got it right. There's just something I love about being able to do a power-over drift in 5th gear. :dopey:

That vid was pretty cool. I actually have all of those cars. I haven't used my CLK55 much. It was a grip car, and I tried tuning it for drift. My Tuscan actually has a grip setting, but can be used as a speed drift car if ASM and TCS are turned off. I also have an exhibition drift Tuscan.

I noticed the angle thing might depend on what cars you're using or how they are tuned. I can hardly get my Viper GTS-R Concept to drift, and my GTS is kinda fickle as well. They're still works-in-progress, though. My Chaser, V8 Vantage and Cobra R will do the angle thing, no problem.

Boring it may be... but you learn ;) I know how you feel... the cars go way slow in the beginning but then your mind just adapts...

Just for kicks yesterday, I bought another V8 Vantage, kept it stock, and put sims on it. That car is a terror to drive. :scared: I think it's even worse than my full-tune V8 Vantage on super softs. Wheelspin through 4th gear, and horrendous body roll. I'll keep practicing with it, though. If I can drift that, I'll probably be able to drift anything. :sly:

Heh, the sweet thing about a C4 is, once you have a nice drift going, you can basically use the throttle to steer the car. Hence, my C4 is maxed out.

You're talking about the Corvette Grand Sport, right? I have one of those, but I haven't spent much time tuning it. I also have a Z06 that's in so-so tune. Needs more work.

Yeah the Z06 is one of the few american cars I like to drift. Actually, I don't really care too much for it and my real reason for posting was to see if the link to my drift vid in my sig was still active as I lost the link a while back. That and to see what's up with the old school gang. Wattup fellas? Does CudaMan still post here or has he moved on?

Check drift settings depot. One of Shadow Drifter's last gifts before he retired from GTP, was those ultra-sweet C4 settings.

they died a while ago :(

i can drift with high powered cars 700hpish but i do prefer fully modded ae86's ,s13,240sx on super slicks. i drift all my cars on super slicks though i can drift low powered cars on sims though they need to be less than 300 or so.

The drift forum did not "die" it has just gotten more organized(Less Idiots, Spam Etc).. and with the advent of Gt4, Everybody is saving their energy..

I was messing around yesterday and tried tuning my C4 according to what one member typically does. He didn't actually make a setup for the C4, but I just applied his settings. It worked pretty well. Not only can I do some decent exhibition drifts, but since the setup calls for soft tires, I can do race drift/grip too.

I tried applying it with my Z06 too, and finally got it working. It even worked on my RGT and improved my Speed 12(still hard to drive). Can't wait to try it in my Viper GTS and Shelby Cobra. It didn't work on my Viper concept, but I think it's beyond hope, anyway(at least for me).

A specific setup for the C4, though...I'll have to check that out.

Have you tried the Cobra R? I'm not very good at tuning on my own, but it was easier for me to start drifting that than the Z06. It doesn't have the power of the Z06, but it can be lots of fun.

Yes DA.... Come Come!!! MUAHAHAHAHA *Coughs* Seriously.. If your going to low hp, make sure it's balanced... 200-350 hp=sims.... 500-700=sports....800 and onwards supersofts ;) oh wait that's for FR...

i drift a 1081 hp supra :)

on supersofts ofcourse hehe, its so kewl... it wheel spins n smokes in 5thgear @ around 280kph lol

soo awsom 2 drive :)

especially around the huge sweeping right hander [4th corner tokyo R246] soo much fun :D

i jus love the feeling of pushing it sideways n abusing the laws of physics lol...
