High School

Seems merely discussing high school is enough to bring about silly drama!

As for me, I'm getting near the end of high school, and for that I'm glad. I'm making an effort to have better learning skills, but it is tough to stick with it.

School's never been a problem for me, I get high 80's, and low to mid 90's with minimal effort, particularly in classes where written communication and arguing a thesis or opinion is important (English, Anthropology, History, etc.). There's also Religion class, where I have a 98 as an atheist who argues with everything the teacher says (Ontario has publicly funded "free" Catholic schools).

The one exception is math. I simply don't work hard enough at math to do well, and that's completely my fault. I have low 50's in both of my grade 12 math classes, Calculus & Vectors, and Advanced Functions. I'm coming back next year to repeat Functions in 1st semester and take Philosophy as an average booster, and probably taking Calculus in the summer or in night school during when 2nd semester would be (work full time otherwise).

As for high school drama, I really don't get involved with any of it. I have my girlfriend, a close circle of friends, and a wide range of acquaintances, but I tend not to invest heavily in the lives of people I don't care for (read: I only talk to most of the acquaintances if I'm at a party or in class)

Azuremen
I'm going to give you the biggest news-flash ever: you are not a unique snowflake. Everyone has problems, some of us have more than others, but to think you are some how excused from all things society considers useful is silly.

This. I'm sure everyone on here has there own problems, I know I've got some big ones, but they don't go out and start listing things on a gran turismo forum. My grades dropped like a stone last year due to my problem but I picked it up and this year I'm in the top 5% of my class. School sucks but it's just work which has pressure and stress like everything else worthwhile in life.

I wasn't getting upset over anything. You seriously don't know what this is, it's terrible, and you clearly don't understand that.

And also l can't count how many different psychologists and such I've been through.

And l missed over 3 months my 7th grade year due to fake illness and hospital visits.

And probably over 4 months 8th grade.

9th grade they're catching on and calling police on me when l try to stay home.

And plus you probably don't even know what Trichotillomania is, now do you? Yea, l went completely bald because of it.

Azureman l said that to CMvan. I wouldve quoted you.

I'm sorry but if that was true they wouldn't pass you on to the next grade level. 4 months of a grade is half a year. Now I've missed nearly entire semesters but I've had people bringing me notes, work sheets, and so on and was really only going in for tests. So unless your basically being home schooled you'd have been held back by now....especially in high school.

And yes it's the compulsive action of pulling on ones hair despite the person knowing what damage they are doing to their hair/head.

Now if you'd like to play the game of what I've got is worse than you then I'm sure everybody here can come up with a whole lot of stuff, including myself and others trying to help. I went through a stretch of high school where I used what I had as an excuse far top often. I had a teacher who I was close with wake me up at one point and lay it all out for me and I thank god she did because I don't know what I'd be doing if I didn't. I've been saying all along depression is a serious and very misunderstood disease. I have first hand experience with helping people through it for many years including my high school years and I understand it better than most.

If I give you the benefit of the doubt and say everything you've said is true then yes it's a ton to deal with in high school. However your not doing yourself any favours using that as your reason to blow off school and to say this is why I'm not doing well. If you think that way now what happens when you get a job? Well that same mentality carries over and if your not performing at work, well instead of a talking to with the teacher, you get fired. Unfortunately that's reality and with everything that's going on you need to find a doctor you feel like you can relate to and that understands you and stick with it. It's a long road to recovery but I know many people who have done it and if I have one piece of advice it's that no matter how bad things seem and no matter how hopeless you may think things are there is always, always a solution and a path out.

Now this thread is for discussing high school. If you'd like to post about your problems going through high school because of XYZ then fine but give us the whole story instead of making it progressively worse with each post.

I, statistically go to the third worst school in the country. GCSE results show that, so do my predicted grades:

Maths: C/B
Science: B
English: A
Business: B
Spanish: C
Geography: B/A

Not that bad, compared to some.

I apparently go to the best school (not including private) in my city yet looking at many people in my school I would beg to differ.

The grades/year group works different here. I am the normal age for my year.

Ah ok.

(Doesn't even want to comment on previous page...)
Friend and I have to use Solidedge (thought it was Solidworks), to make a knex structure. How would this look?

(This is the old version, new version is 1968 spec with wings and a more realistic frame structure.)

People really need to care more about education. Probably only the most important and phase of your life, all things considered.

Though most young people don't seem to appreciate why some history is a useful thing to know, or how learning even part of a second language can make life much easier.

Exactly, it's kind of sad that some people take what we are given for granted. Especially when there are people in the world that don't have the privilege to go to school and learn.

That is so funny. I'm not playing games. And like l said if l was seeking attention l wouldn't be on the internet with people l don't know. I can't take you guys seriously, you read what l say then turn it into something completely different. I'm done with this pointless argument.

Thats better than I ever did.

English C after retake from an E.
Maths C.
Science A after retake from a C.
History D.
Ict short course C.

Retakes done at college.

My school was utter crap but now I am doing A levels so I am not bothered any more. Although I hate my old head teacher for not giving me the chances I deserved. He can go burn in hell.

An E?
Grades here are usually in percents or if they are letters they are (A, B, C, D, or F)

Yeh thats technically a pass but everyone knows no employer will care about said qualification if its below a C usually. And as english is needed in most jobs at an E no employer would really care about you unless its basic manual labour.

I think that everywhere else uses E instead of an F. Come to think of it, it's kind of dumb that North America does it that way, we just skip a letter.
Edit: Lol nevermind.

I like F better than E. Imo, E means excellent and F means failure, which is true for F. We used to use E in some class.

Oh so E means pass? I'm confused lol.

The GCSE scale goes.

A*, A, B, C, D, E, F, G, U which is fail.

A level structure goes

A* (A2 level only not AS) A, B, C, D, E, U = fail.

I remember during grade school for a while, R was used on a report card instead of F if someone was failing.

Whoever came up with that, I don't know.

I wonder if it still is?

Ah ok, F is a fail for us.
It makes more of a difference if it's a B+ or B- I guess. 10% I think.
Edit: Using the number system, "R", is like you're not even trying.
Because I think a 1 is failing/almost failing. I forget what R stands for though.

Odd using an R.

No, different countries do thing differently. I think America and Canada use F for failure (better IMO) and everywhere else uses E or U .

Basically A* A B C D E F and G are all a pass thanks to the wonderful British Government who think that people mustn't be allowed to fail.

U means Ungraded which usually means that the person was Absent.

Just because you are sexually attracted to someone doesn't mean you actually love them. Also, a relationship is a responsibility, you can't just ask someone out and then occasionally hug them.

*deep breath*

Here goes nothing... :scared:

There is a girl I really like at school. She is very beautiful and I would do anything for her. Anything. I'm pretty sure I love her, not just sexually attracted but she always ignores me.... What do I do  ?!?!

Oh god flash backs of how I used to be make it stop! Kill eet!

How can a G be a pass? That's like 30%! I could get that now!
That's what I'm thinking. It's also why the unemployment rate is so high in under 21's because employers won't give jobs to anyone who has less than a C.

@Ross: Tell me you're joking about Britain's school system? Otherwise your government should be ashemmed :p. You need 51% to pass here.

What the hell's a G? When I did my GCSE's everything below a D was a fail, at A level it's everything below an E.

40% here.

Snap, that's exactly what I was told last year, a C was the lowest pass grade, and the only fail at A-level is a U

C or above at GCSE is the only grade that employers will actually care to include the qualification in their thought about who should get the job.

A-level yes an E is a pass and higher than an A* at GCSE but you again really want to aim for a C minimum.
