Thread Summary: This thread has resulted in some confusion and Heated Debate. Mostly about High Speed Drifing's validity. To alleviate some of this one of the Posters has offered to Host a couple video's that depict the Differences.

When up they will be added to this post.


ORIGINAL POST I am starting to notice a small division between people in here. There are a few people (myself included) that have more of a High Speed Drift basis I am becoming more passionate about Speed Drifiting and want to learn with the others who do also more closely. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to alienate the two. Just make developlment for the 2 more effective. 👍
 
actually, this isn't such a new division, as I understand it.
Have a look in the GTPDC thread (it is adapted from the one orginially posted in the gt3 forums) - there are separate divisions there for exhibition and speed drifting. Albeit very underused...i dont think i ever saw a single racing drift competition in gt3, but i got on the scene a little late. Anyways, there is room for you guys to compete with each other, and an adapted set of judging criteria is presented.

i dont want to shoot down your idea, just pointing out what is already in place.
If you were looking for a speed drift battle, you could specify so in the listing and registration thread. Also, the creation of a team dedicated to speed driting might be a way to grow the community and meet peers (one may already exist, I'm unsure).

👍 Thanks Tank, Sorry I missed the definition in GTPDC. Starting a team may be a good idea. Well why don't we start by everyone interested sound off in here so we can get things organised? 💡
 
Please don't try start new fads and what not.. Its called speed drifting and will always be called "Speed drifting".

I am not tring to start a new Fad. Call it what ever you want, but both racing styles already exist.

errr.... I'm not sure about that because MR car can easily oversteer which makes the car have a lot of angle. use FR to speed drifting they're way better at small angle and zero countersteer hope that helps 👍

oh by the way if you want to try speed drifting use Amuse S2000, the best race drifting car I've ever driven (can keep up with lancer Evo Rally car S2 tyre) good luck :)

The other night i was taking some pics for this week's drift photo contest, and I tried out my TVR Tuscan Speed 6. I was surprised when i threw some T3 tires on the car along the other available upgrades. It was a bit of a boat to drift on the Hong Kong track, but I decided to try it out on Suzuka and I thought it was pretty good. I'm at school right now, but i'll post up some settings tonight at home.
 
MR's have a tendancy to regain traction under throttle application = much faster exits. Go in sliding, add throttle, go out fast.

I found that MR drifting need to apply brake before entering the Trial mountain 3rd corner (on the 1st tunnel) while FR I just used accel-off and step on the gas so I think FR car has a better entry I suppose? :crazy:

That's probably your problem, MR's can drift with much more grip. I run S3's on my AW11 MR2 with 250~hp.

well the problem is that I used N2 tyres for my FR so if I wanted to test the difference between this two cars I should use the same tyre shouldn't I? 👍

heck, i've got an S15 setup to do speed drifts on racing hard tires....
edit: and just so people dont get the wrong idea, it's not a 'power monster'. I dont think it has anything more than 350hp
 
I say just go with what you are comfortable with. Once you learn what extremities you can reach with them you can do what you want. Obviously the higher the grip the more aggressive you need to be, and there is a threashold where you are not going to be able to break loose. It all depends on several factors: type of car, driving style, settings, and Horsepower.
 
i guess MR can go both ways, i can get lots of angle easily and still able to get thru the turn, but to me drifting an FR is different. I use N1 tires for MR and N2 tires for FR. If u want to speed drift, i suggest a AWD/4WD car.

Why an AWD/4WD while I can speed drifting FR/MR? :)

I've noticed a small gap as well. To be honest, I border the fence when it comes between show and speed drift, as I actively participate in both, though I do more speed drift.

Unless there is a team - I've neglected to look just yet - I offer starting a speed drift team. I'm open to names, as NightBattle just sounds so biased towards a certain someone ~cough~ me ~cough~ ... :sly: Let me know on that guys ... I'll get right on the webpage.

Now, I don't see why people consider this as "starting a fad", as it's not. Quite simply, it's a gathering of people who share a certain drift style, or those that want to learn and better their drift style. Also, why is there a push to speed drift MR cars? I say speed drift whatever the hell you want, and impress that way. To me, it's just not a person's true flavor if they're using a car they don't necessarily like.

Okay ... if you speed drift, and you're reading this post, give a shout. I'm sure HammerShot and I both want to know who's who with this style.

Also, please no flaming of others for their vehicle selections ... I'm sure you'd be pretty pissed if someone was bagging on your car while you're out picking up groceries at the local Kroeger.
