I'm getting this too - twice in the past hour.

I can give a little bit more info.:

I think an ad may be causing it - a message box (alert) appears saying that I have spyware/registry problems... Click OK to install the Spy Dr.

When I click the close button on the alert window my GTP window is redirected to another page. Never waited long enough to see what it contains, sorry. :(

I'll post back with more info. for you if I get it.

Sounds to me like you may have some spyware on your PC that's causing the problem.

Does your antivirus come up with anything?

I had a similiar problem a few weeks ago, my pages would be hijacked and several 'spyware removal(along those lines)' pop-ups would appear. My VET anti-virus showed 3 results, all of which were 'dialers'. I think one of them was called 'Silly.DI' somethingrather.

Have you got an anti-spyware program? I got rid of the blasted things with 'Ewido Anti-Spyware', although I guess anything along the lines of 'Ad-Aware' might help. Hope that helped somewhat!:nervous:...

Strange indeed. Have you treid any other scanners? Stupidly enough, they all seem to pick up certain things that the other doesn't:indiff:.

I should have mentioned this before, but similarly, I got my problem through clicking on the links (which, as NielsG says don't do). I was stupid enough to click. But some of them do look authentic!

That is extremely odd.

NielsG, I've edited the link you psoted, as it does link directly to a download file. My firewall caught it, but it easily slips by the AV.

Time to run that and see if I can come up with something.

I'd be really shocked if something like that slipped into the ad rotation.

Here's what Symantec says about it.

With the recent ad being compromised this is a little unsettling and more than a little frustrating. The ad companies I'm working with are some of the most respected in the business and I can't see them putting their reputation and integrity on the line by allowing their advertisers to include more in their ad than what they are paying for. Is there any chance you guys could take a screenshot of the ads you have on the page the next time you have strange activity? I browse the site with all of the ads enabled, just like a regular user, but I have yet to see any such alerts or messages from my security software.

Funnily enough, I just got it pop up on me trying to visit this thread...

...and as a result, lost a (quite important) hotmail I was composing

One thing, though. It always seems to hijack the third (or fourth, from left on taskbar) browser window in IE6. (and clicking the x on the dialog closes that window...)

edit: Oh, and the AV on this computer was a 60-day free trial from '02 :nervous:...

You didn't happen to see what the ads being displayed on the page were for, did you?

No I didn't, sorry.

edit: \/ eww... professional teeth whitening... (totally unrelated to this issue)

It has been happening 3 times to me since my last post. :scared:

When the alert message pops up, the browser window pops down and shift to the "error safe"-site. No chance of getting a "print screen" of it. Only once I caught a short glimpse of the banner. :dopey:

Showed a bluish banner with a dark haired girl with long hair in the right of the banner (teeth whitening like sharky says? or maybe shampoo?). Sorry for not being able to be more specific?

I have been refreshing and browsing then Planet wildly to make it happen again and nothing has happened at all, when I have done that.
Everytime it has happened was after I returned to the PC after a break to check in on the Planet. But it could be coincedence?

Now I have just changed to Firefox. Before I was on IE. Could that make a difference?

I havn't seen anything using Firefox. I'm trying out Maxthon now and so far nothing.

Well, you could sign up for GTPremium... ;)

Unfortunately, that is what admins would probably say if this weren't GTPlanet.

Ive just noticed this over the past few days on gtplanet..... I dont know if its the same think but I keep on getting threat alerts from norton occasionaly as I surf the site..... There are some adverts like the ones that offer free laptops etc..... they seem to always be around when this happens.....

Its says something about attempted intrusion "HTTP Apache Redundant Slashes DoS" and it mentions gtplanet.us.intellitxt.com

I dont know if this is helpful or not but its only happened in the last few days.....

With Firefox on several different computers, including my PC, a laptop, and a Mac, I haven't gotten any error like that at all.

I'm using IE and I have Zonalarm which has a builtin AV and anti spyware , I've also got Windows defender which is a new version of there anti spyware program , and I don't have any problems , I don't think all Antivirus programs detect spyware

I've just saved this thread, I receive the same Spy Doctor ad.

I updated all of my SpyWare and Anti-Virus programs last night and since then I haven't seen it again. However, if I do I will Print Screen it for admin to look into.

I did notice a pattern to get an idea of when it appears, there's an ad at the top of the page that says " W I N N E R " in pink and green and flashes, this usually appeared before the Spy Doctor ad.

There is no way to close the ad either other than closing manually with Ctrl+Alt+Del as far as I know?!

Really? This is so frustrating as I have specifically excluded that scum from the rotation. These complaints piss me off, and I wouldn't be hearing them at all if this ad network would actually start taking responsibility for their advertisers. I'm going to double check that particular banner and hopefully get this resolved. Once again, I apologize - you guys don't deserve to have to put up with this. :grumpy:

And you shouldn't have to babysit someone that isn't doing their job. No need to apologize, Jordan.

It should be, I discussed the issue with the advertising company and all should be straight now.
