Hispania F111 Launch

I think the bolded part may be why I have a hard time taking it seriously. Has there even been rumors of them being close to signing one? I'm sure they will be on the grid, but there isn't going to be a whole lot of progress with a rookie and a driver who has just signed with the team a short period of time before the season.

I guess I should clear up my opinion a bit as well, it's not the small ones I'm taking issue with it's the big ones on the side pods and front wing. It's generally not a good thing when you have to advertise the fact you are looking for sponsors(not to mention it looks insanely tacky), if the car performs well sponsors will come.

Rookie? Karthikeyan is not a rookie.
At their end of the grid, it almost doesn't matter who they hire. They gain more time by going for the money and spending it on the team and the car than they do going for superstar drivers and preparing them.
It would help if they hired a driver who is experienced in developing an F1 car and they are apparently trying to hire Liuzzi or Klien, which isn't too bad. But they really just need drivers who will finish the races.

Again, people pay too much attention to drivers when its the overall team that is important in this sport. Hispania need investment to start building up their own facilities and hiring more and more experienced and skilled staff in design and engineering departments. For the moment, they are doing ok with Kolles organising the team and Geoff Willis designing their car.

I agree, Karthikeyan isn't a rookie in the sense that he's had an entire season of f1 under his belt. On the flip side of the coin, he's not raced in f1 since 2005 and the cars have undergone many changes since then. Granted, he tested for williams for 2 years, but this season is going to be a serious learning experience for him. If the second seat does come down to a shootout between Liuzzi and Klien, it'll be kind of ironic given the situation those two had at red bull in 2005. Christian Klien would be my choice but Liuzzi has more recent experience. Looking forward to an announcement being made.

A silly rumour has popped up overnight: the infamous Zsolt Baumgartner is going to drive for Hispania. The rumour is based on a Twitter account in Baumgartner's name that has appeared and appears to be legit. He doesn't actually say he is driving for Hispania, but rather that he is promising some big news today, and a lot of people seem to think it will be an announcement that he is returning for Formula 1.

Personally, I call BS.

Quashed.

ZBaumgartner Zsolt Baumgartner
I would like to distance myself from all rumours regarding the vacant HRT seat. Though wait for the big announcement tomorrow at 12.30CET

I don't think Baumgartner (aka HWNSNBM in F1Rejects) will join HRT, especially after these years. Besides, his super-license have been expired right? 💡

He could re-acquire a Superlicence by completing 300km of testing. However, as Only_in_f1 has pointed out, he's moved to distance himself from the rumours.

I liked the fact that, from this quote:

He is called HWNSNBM (He Whose Name Shall Not Be Mentioned) on the F1 Rejects Podcast and Forum as his name was mentioned too many times on the podcasts, and has since become a 'running joke' (according to Wikipedia) on the F1 Rejects podcast and forum. According to F1 Rejects forum users, if you mention his real name, you will be hit on the head with papayas in various states (Most commonly on fire).

poor guy.
But seriously, if he ever comes back to F1 I would gladly support him. Don't know why, but he is the least successful driver I ever supported... :D

I want Nakajima, Liuzzi bores the hell out me. Nakajima is a pay driver with modest experience, would be a good choice IMO. Though he is still 'signed' to Stefan GP!

That I didn't know.

Nakajima was pretty useless though. Liuzzi at least had his good days.

I think it's largely because he was just a shining example of mediocrity, only ever scoring one point. He started out as a running joke at F1 Rejects, and they've done a few interviews with him, so he comes across as really friendly and totally willing to get onto the HWNSNBM train.

Anyway, Hispania are also testing Giorgio Mondini this weekend. I hadn't heard of him, either - he was Midland's third driver in 2006 and competed in the Le Mans 24 Hours in 2009, driving an Audi. So there's another Karthikeyan-esque Colin Kolles connection ...

Christ, Kolles and his little black book strikes again.. I think Liuzzi is a shoe-in.

I suspect Mondini is being groomed for a test seat. I've heard that Hispania have backing from Switzerland this year, so I suspect there is a clause in that contract that states they will get more money if they field a Swiss driver in some capacity. The team is apparently very happy with him, and if you factoring in the variable weather conditions in Barcelona, Mondini's lap times are comparable to Narain Karthikeyan's. According to Mondini, the primary purpose of the test was to assess his fitness after a four-year absence from the sport, so I expect he will have a continued role with the team.

F111 launched in Barcelona, still might not run in testing though.

'That' still isn't me.

Either you don't know what a right-angle is, or you're looking at an entirely different car to me...:boggled:

All I can say is that've got cojones for running with that livery. Yes, until they get sponsors, the car WILL say "Your logo here" and "This is a cool spot" and "This could be you"

I think the car looks good... It won't be troubling the midfield, but the livery is nice and the car should hopefully be a step forward. Would be nice if they were able to compete with at least one other team.

Held in customs Andrea Moda style or held in customs because of customs unexpected delay ?
I'd say it's an unexpected delay. Given the haste to get the car ready, they've most likely arranged to have the dampers shipped out to Barcelona to meet them there. However, someone forgot to factor in the time spent in customs, and the customs office shut down for the weekend.

Welp, looks like they missed the last day of testing. I bet this is a right pain in the arse :p
