Can anybody find good pictures of the two HKS Dragsters...the Drag 180SX and the R33 Drag GTR?

Thanks in advance. :)

Here's the R33 HKS Drag car:

A month ago the owner of the place I bought my GTR from was back in Osaka Japan, as he is every month picking up cars for his lot. He brought his race car driver with him. The went to one of the strips up there and were able to have a good look at the HKS R33 GTR drag car.

Glen (driver/mechanic) said that car is very unsafe. They have drilled holes everywhere to lose weight. They even cut the firewall out and replaced it with carbon fiber. if the car was a modular chasis (tube chasis) that would be ok, but it isn't.

If he ever lost control of that car it is all over rover. I doubt he would survive a high speed crash. Sometimes it makes me wonder why you would risk you life or anothers to prove a point. While it is the quickest 4wd drag car in the world, it is under weight to be allowed to run in the pro class in Japan. They have a weight limit of 1,150kgs, and the R33 HKS drag car is 1,080 kgs.

Still it is pumping some huge hp out. Rumors have it a about the 1,400 - 1,500 hp without NOS.

Awesome pictures ppl.
Nice thread.

Might i ask a question about these drag racers, just how fast these machines go in a straight line? i watched em once or twice on tele and they looked pretty darn fast.

i think is by the power distribution.
like when you are tunning your car in gt3 ( i know is not the better comparation, but is a good one for me )

Is in it there a HKS Celica dragcar? I've seen it on the intro of the JDM Playstation one game called "Option" racing game.

The HKS R33 Drag car tops out around 180 mph. That is about where the gearing is set to.
Yes it is 4WD, BUT they also use a manual 4wd torque split controller. This allows various amounts of pressure to be applied to the front wheel clutch packs. Thus also when they want to heat the rear tyres up they run 0% front wheel torque and the car is 2wd or RWD only.

The car also uses custom HKS developed turbos 35-40's. These have much larger exhaust housings than the previous 32-40's that are avialable to the general public. These development turbos are not for retail sale yet but will be soon. Our HKS importer here in New Zealand gets quite a bit of inside information from the HKS head office in Japan.

Another developement is the trick air shifted gearbox. Though it is still a lever it is not mechanical.

The cars best run to date is 7.671.

HKS has three major drag cars:

R33 GTR

S14 (200sx) also powered by an RB26DETT (GTR motor)

MKIV Supra which is powered by a twin turbo Infiniti 4.1 litre V8.

correction, Razor, the Supra is powered by a Lexus V8.

the R33 is deep in 8 seconds territory, the 180SX is in the low 7s, and the Supra is in the 7s too, if i'm not mistaken

You are mistaken about the R33 Times. As stated it has done multiple 7 sec passes including ones in Australia at Drag Combat. The time quoted is correct and verified.

Lexus produces the Q45 engine? I will have to check with that. I could be wrong.

Since we dont have that "either car name" here.

Some else off topic for a second is the Chevy Cavalier's here are badged Toyota !

it doesn't use a Q45 engine, it uses a Lexus (or Toyota, depending on where you are) engine from the Aristo/GS430. it's a Supra, after all.

and you're right, i need to put my results up to date... the GT-R's indeed in the 7s. :o

Yea their site claims that but unless it was done recently the world 4wd record is 7.671 which it did at the Highlands in Japan, but because the car is under weight to officially run in the Pro class in Japan there are a lot of arguements about the validity of the runs it makes.
