Absolutely shocking. I figured this monster would set a well time, & that its gearing would slow it down on the straightaways (like it did on the oval in a previous test). But to gain 4 seconds on the ZR1, jesus.
 
Wasn't the ACR the fastest for all of those GT-R tests too?
 
indeed.. almost if my sister was driving. :lol: 2 shift-misses and raping the rev limiter on every gear..

First Nissan... now Dodge/Chrysler? Would have been even better if it was from Houston's Hennessey Performance, but damn! Anyone who thinks America can't build incredible sports cars that can do less than 7:25 at the 'Ring has been proven wrong once this snake slithered its way onto the track. Wonder what it would do around Top Gear's track with the Stig behind the wheel...

I've never hated the Viper. Well, I don't really like convertible Vipers. Wicked car. I haven't seen the video. Yet, I can already imagine what this car would look like flying over Flugplatz and flooring it down the ultra-long backstretch.
 
An accomplishment yes, a good looking Viper yes, quality build or feel no. But, I'd still take it over the ZR-1. The Corvette is slowly drifting away on my "like" scale.

Agreed. And here's two really scary things! Imagine how much faster it would of been if the driver wasn't lazy with the gear changes -- and if it actually sold well enough to warrant the Viper sticking around. I'm all for it actually dispite my hatred of anything Chrysler.

The bar's been passed to Chrysler from GM. This will FORCE GM to ante up and beat them. I can see a very good war coming. Too bad the SL65 Black will wipe the floor with them both (me hopes).

This is the ACR with the huge wing and sports tires right? Still think he could have done much better. Give that thing to Sabine
 
Amazing time, too bad about the miss shifts and the rev limiter love.......Could have gone faster by the looks of it.
 
The shifts were too forced, I don't know how hard it is to shift in the ACR but it didn't look easy, slow forced clunky shifts. That is why it was just easier and probably quicker for him to hit limiter all those times when a corner was approaching.

Impressive time, if the transmission allowed smooth quick shifts it would loose a few seconds.
 
I still don't understand why he didn't go into 5th on the big straight? Or is the gearing wrong for it? *shrug*
 
You can't blame him for mis-shifting when his elbow's parallel with his "shoulder"!!!!!
As for the rev limiter well that a tough choice, do I change,naaaah, to late it's shift is too slow. Must have some awesome brakes but!!!
 
I can't say I'm really surprised, downforce is like the ultimate of performance upgrades, it sure as hell is an impressive time for a road car, but for a race car........

Funniest thing is that the driver had driven only two laps, third being the fastest. and he's not from Zakspeed, but from WTCC:

Impressive lap nevertheless. Although that car has massive downforce, by adding such a wing, a front splitter etc you could make a lot of cars faster on that track. I mean it has 1000 pounds downforce at 150 mph*, that's pretty much a race car isn't it ? The Nissan GTR for example only has about 180 pounds of downforce ( at 186 mph )*
As impressive as the 7.22 min sound at first, when you have a second look, this Viper is more a race car than a tuned car. I wonder if it is street legal in Europe ?

But whatever, 7.22 is 7.22 - amazing car without a doubt !

The car was ran stock so I see no reason to complain about the time. I knew it was going to be fast but I didn't think it would be that fast. Although we need to wait for an official time.
 
From what I've understood the ACR isn't road legal even in the US when the front splitter is fitted, the car has a compartment for it for normal driving. No doubt it's faster than its rivals but that's what cars built only hot lapping in mind tend to be. Fit the ZR1 or the upcoming GT-R V-Spec with a race car wing, adjustable suspension and DOT approved track tyres (Michelin Pilot Sport Cups on the ACR as stock), and the Viper's time will be history.

I reckon the first missed shift ALONE cost him two seconds Leo. All up it looks like it could get into the low 7'10"s with a great driver (call me ol'skool, but stick someone like Jan Magnussen or Walter Rohl behind the wheel, someone who knows the 'ring like the back of their hand!!) and agree with the others, when the R35 V-Spec comes out, it's going to be very very close...even with the R35 sans wing and race rubber. ;)

i was gonna say it looks like hes trying to drive a truck or something. i bet he was cursing the damn thing every time he shifted.

Is there proof of what tires the ZR1 and GTR used when lapping the ring?

7 mins 20. Just a couple years back 7 mins 35 was fast and done only by the hyper cars. Yet now it seems every tom dick and harrys sportscar can achieve those fast times just a couple years later.

To me I reckon something is up, because lap 'ring times became so popular with enthusiasts car companys now seem to be doing anything to beat each other, and sort of takes away from the spirit as these cars are no longer the same spec as what you buy from the garage.
