I've been in a game (two days ago) where some g-unot wannabe gangster was about to "kill his wife". She ran into the room steaming mad because she had to do all the work, take care of the kids, cook and clean and he was playing GT5 all day. His response was something like "get out of the room you (bleeping bleep bleep bleep bleep) before I slit your throat and leave you here bleeding to death" followed by 5 minutes of swearing, screaming and what seemed like some sort of fight. When it was over, the guy came back like nothing happened and said "let's roll!".

lol. I'm sure most of the other players were laughing like hell. To be honest, it seems like he just left his mic on while he was arguing with his wife/baby-momma. He certainly needs some anger management.

And yes, GT5 has and will piss off many wives, girlfriends and baby-mommas.

I wouldn't even ban that guy if he's a clean driver. By far the worst thing about gaming online are the bad drivers. In FM3 the most frustrating thing was getting voted out of a room because someone who crashed into you started a vote to kick you.

P.S. 13-year-old kids know more curse words than you. Younger kids should not be be playing anything online.
 
People should watch their language online, there is the strong possibility of children being in the race. In the UK, the game is rated as 3+, so any child older than 3 years old could be playing. I started playing GT1 when I was only 4 years old, so I know that children do play GT. I think PD should add 'safe' races, where audio chat is disabled by default to protect any children playing the game from hearing this type of language.
 
I've played Race Driver GRID online, so I have some experience with the subject of this thread. I entered an event once only to find the people (men in their 20s by the sound of their voices) shouting and laughing and carrying on. "Yo momma! Your momma!" "Hahahahahahahahah!" Your mom!" "Haha you're so funny!" "Hahahahaha good one!" I've left out considerable detail here because I don't want to get banned 👎

Then I tried to enter a freestyle drift. There was a teenager shouting "🤬 you! I OWN you 🤬!" As I recall, he went on from there. After the race, I vote to kick him out as a show of defiance. I recall him saying, like a taunting child, "You can't kick me oooooouuuuuuuttttt! Duhh duhh duhh duhh duhh duhh"

There's also the other side to that coin. I won a race the other night and got to hear about 3 ppl who were watching and talking about me and the lines I was taking... I actually hear more adults curse then I do young kids. I probably watch my language more in a game than I do when I'm coaching my sons flag football team. LOL
 
LOL, should use text chat. They censored it so well you won't be able to say anything at all.

Seriously, this is exactly why I disable voice chat 100% of the time.

I think it's about getting lucky on room choice. :indiff:

When i was in a public room with a couple rammers in it, everyone on voice chat was voicing their displeasures. When the room host kicked them, everyone started to have a good time. I've already made a couple friends from GT5. It's all about being lucky on the room choice. I'm sure that I'll run into a room full of people as described in the original post. :scared:

When it comes to online for me, Its becoming rare to find a lobby where people actually want to race! They just stay in free run playing bumper cars. Freakin idiotic. Or, they play bumper cars and have personal chats while driving around. It is just..idk. ANNOYING!
 
There is nothing in the PSN TOS or TOU that says you can't curse. It happens. Hell, I know some people whose PSN is MW2_trickniglet and trickfukr. If they get banned, they can go and make another account, because it's free to play. I raise hell when i get on the mic, and you shouldn't even be letting your children play this game online, since the content is not rated by esrb, and most of the people playing are of an older nature.

Decency is a part of upbringing, and Ive learned, doing the right thing when no one is around makes a decent person. If cursing and swearing online is easier than in real life just because you cant be seen, makes that individual indecent. So, if murder, theft etc was legal , you wouldnt feel the wrongness of killing or robbing a person? I think a lack of shame is the reason for all this online spoken nonsense! Lack of shame and maybe personal pride.

Xbox Live is much more sophisticated in this respect. It allows you to make sure you never meet assholes again and they are much more prone to ban people who go overboard. Great advantage of a paid service. Paying for PSN Plus has never appealed to me because it doesn't give me a better network, just more content I don't need.
 
So yeah... Strangers online is exactly why I hate the open lobby. Some people are freaking weird and nasty. That's why I came to this forum. To "meet" people before I turn mics on with them.

I somewhat agree. You should not let your kids on ANY online game if you don't want them to hear anything bad. Whether the game itself is E or not. Don't let them play online if it's that much of a concern.

Except not really. I don't talk any worse than I do with my friends cursing and what not. Not every other word but I talk as if I would talk to my friends in real life. And then you have the occasional douche bag that enjoys starting stuff and I'll usually get into it with them with words exchanged. I guess some people take it more serious than others and get really defensive?

The point is, online gaming is going to be vulgar at times. I mean we're talking about guys with testosterone battling it out to see who wins, competing to be first. Words will get exchange. Control the use of online play if you're that worried about it. If your kid is that young to where you're worried about what they hear online, then chances are they really shouldn't be playing online in the first place.

I run into FAR more assholes on live than psn. And much more frequently too. On top of that, you have many more little kids on live being complete idiots and are beyond annoying.

I can say there is no obvious difference in the service of psn and live. So what some of us are paying 60 dollars a year for is beyond me.

I completely agree with OP, that's why I rarely go online in any of my games.

It must be difficult for people who take a win/loss online so seriously that they curse and threat other players. How do the same people handle things like a burnt dinner? That's atleast slightly annoying. Losing a race online however, meh.

I'm having a hard time believing there are this many people that get upset over what people say to them over a game online. It's a game.

Oh I don't care at all what people say to me in terms of the contents of their words. I'm kind of a loudmouth myself in daily life. That however doesn't mean I can't be civilized when I need to and it definitely doesn't mean I want to spend my time listening to 16y olds calling me or others all sorts of names.

Unfortunately playing online means one almost HAS to accept all sorts of morons ruining things verbally and / or by playing the game like an idiot. Not the way in which I want to spend my precious game time. (It's pretty precious when you're a dad with 2 kids and all)

So besides an occasional game with people I know to act like an adult I stay away from online play. Wish it were different though.

That's the point, isn't it. It's a game. I'm there to have fun/relax, not get yelled at. It's not about whether I get upset or not (hard to be when a teenager who can barely find his way out of the basement tries to insult me), I just don't like it.
 
It's not so much the bad language but the way some people use it. For example, some people start going mental when they don't win the race and start swearing violently. I don't get how these kind of people get so upset about a virtual race in a virtual car on a virtual track. If someone loses a race they should just accept that and move on, even world champions don't win every race.

Cursing is nowhere near the same category as robbing or killing a person. I curse a ton and I have shame and personal pride. I barely have a damn filter. Welcome to real life, where you might actually get offended. Also, umadbro?
 
I'll admit this: I hate losing. Period.
I think that is the spirit that fuels me to try my best in every race.
When i don't win a race, i first mute the mic and curse a bit.
Then, i try to observe the person who beat me.

Normally, i take a slower car because let's be honest. Isn't it that much better to beat people when they have a faster car, even if you don't win? :)

Anyhoo, there are some people who cannot fathom losing.

Please don't mix me up with those people. I hate losing, but know that I will lose. It is inevitable. Nobody can have a 100% win percentage.

Not even Greger Huttu is undefeated. (He is when starting from the pole on iRacing :lol: )
By the way, for those of you who do not know: Greger Huttu is arguably the best sim racer in the world, BUT i digress.

Bad language? It'll happen. I'll just mute those people and get on with the race. ;)
