Horrible screaming and swearing in online games...

I'm sorry. But you simply can't change online gaming. As much as we'd all like to prevent this - there is always some idiot/kid on the other side of the game.

There is nothing in the PSN TOS or TOU that says you can't curse.
There actually is. Granted, they do not use the exact word 'curse', but if it's really nasty, you can report it and they will take action (not that I ever heard of this happening ;))

You must not take any action, or upload, post, stream, share or otherwise transmit any content, language, images or sounds, in any forum, communication, public profile, Online ID, clan name or otherwise via, or in connection with, Sony Online Services which is defamatory, which compromises the privacy or security of yourself or others, or which we in our sole discretion find abusive, offensive or vulgar. This includes any action, content, language, image or sound that is racially, ethnically, sexually or religiously demeaning or offensive; defamatory, threatening or discriminatory; sexually explicit; illegal; or uses or promotes hate speech, violent behaviour or illegal substances.

That said, online is filled with peeps that swear, leave their babies crying during a whole game, flooding the mic with loud, obnoxious music, etc. etc.

It's best not to give trolls like that any attention at all, just press mute (and/or block) and move on. 👍

Exactly, the only behavior you can change is your own. :)

Is there a way to shut off audio chat? That was my favorite feature of Uncharted 2's online, that I didn't have to hear some of these idiots speak. Red Dead Redemption didn't have that and it made it suck. Too many stupid kids and even adult morons who love the anonymity of PSN.

U can in red dead I've done it just go over their name n it asks you

Yeah but Uncharted had an easy "Mute All" feature so you wouldn't have to click through and mute every name, sometimes you don't have the time to.

Not played online and this story will ensure I never do! Horrible to think that Gran Turismo obviously means just that bit too much to these people. Its a game and always will be.

These people that abuse you for beating them... do they quit the race too to protect their stats? I played F1 2010 online and it was woeful (the game as well...) in that 10 people would start a 3 lap race, by lap 1 it was down to 1 driver left, and myself if I wasn't winning. I did a race with 1 other player on track, he punted me off once at the start which was just funny, so I caught him up again and when making my pass he punted me off again (on a straight...), so I set about chasing him again. Got to within 1 second of him, got some abuse over the mic and then he quit! 1 more turn and he would have seen what it was like to be punted out of the race....

this is the main reason that i will be avoiding online as well as glitchers and cheaters too, i didn't play gt5 prologue because people were ramming into me and constantly giving me penalties it's a real fad online :(

it's all about offline split screen, that is where the fun lies :)

You're missing out, don't let a few rotten apples spoil it for you. And it's not like GT5 is the first game this happens, try any other online game. ;)

And what OP posted isn't the worse. that's mild imo. Hearing southern young white kids say the "N" word repeatedly was enough for me to end my XBL gaming. I've heard fights and arguments with people around them but that's not as bad as racist kids.

These concerns are why I've repeated this a few times now in the threads.
Playing online since PGR2, this is something I did early on.

The only way to play online is to get with like minded people that share your values as to racing, conduct, etc.

They are out there, lots of them, with the same standards as you.
But it may take some trial and error to locate them.

You can also form your own leaque and set your rules, or join one that already has them.

This is why I don´t play online. There is too many maniacs with an I.Q lower than a tampon who don´t know how to share a good time, and have fun. Good old school offline playing for me, unless its with my friends.

One of the reasons joining GTP is a good idea. You can do races with people here, as I plan to do once I get far enough along in the game that I feel like going online. No need yet as I'm still having plenty of fun offline.

Good, clean racing against good opponents is so much fun. I haven't looked into online much yet, but it would be nice if eventually there was a GTP club so there were always people online to race with, and morons would get booted and banned from here as well.
