uh, racem, I don't recognise your pic

Buickgnx88: yes, but red is ALSO on the "boring" list for some of us due to it's ubiquitous-ness on anything with a smidge of performance ( i invert everything when it comes to performance cars, I like seeing them in the boring colors as a change of pace)

again, I put it down to the fact that, once upon a time, Insurance companies did research, and discovered that bright colors have aggressive drivers associated with them.

Glad to see some fellow silver haters... My dad (who has silver hair) was interested in the new Golf TDI but when we looked at the available colors you get like 3 shades of silver, a black, a dark red, and a white. So scratch the non colors (white, silver and black) and you have one choice...

I never thought that domestic car manufacturers would have an edge on imports on the basis of color alone, though chrysler certainly has always had a "colorful" history.

Heres my car, its a pretty decent torch red. No silver for me, thanks. This car looks great in red, personally I would prefer a "grabber blue" but it wasn't offered on the 05-09 model. I think my favorite ford color is "competition orange", but I got this car used and the torch red color looks better in person than in the picture below.

I put the blame on the Japanese "luxury" brands copying Mercedes and Audi's historically silver arrow color.

Unfortunately this is one of only two "colourful" cars we've owned. And even then when people look at my Accord they still mistake the metallic green for black.

Our Bluebird SSS was burgandy (number two of the aforementioned), SIC EM was silver, my Skyline did a doozy by being both white and grey in a two-tone effect, my dad's Patrol is white and his Accord Euro is black...

Just makes these stand out more! :D

...Just buy a radar detector.

...it makes me want to throw up! Its the Scion Cement (1H5) color! :yuck:

-> I'm sorry, but even as a fan of silver/gray colors. That one above is completely unacceptable! 👎

I actually quite like scion's non-metallic grey. It has personality.

I hate that trend too. Luckily, my car is available in a bright red.

It wan't always this way...

Chrysler had plenty of wild colors around 1970, from Vitamin-C to Lemon Twist.

I'll take this in Plum Crazy, please

Anyway, This:

The Kia Borrego in that color is just awfully boring! And I almost had to buy one in this color, then thankfully the dealer found a blue one! :yuck:

The plus side to having many people buy boring colours is that your colourful car will be the most outstanding in a parking lot....

Every time there's a yellow car in a parking lot (or an orange or green if you happen to pass one), it jumps out immediately.

The minus side is that your colorful car will be the most outstanding to the Police out on the highway. XD

I'll be honest, though, it's depressing going through dealer lots and seeing all the cars in the color of business suits. I hate business suits. Makes people look so snobbish.

I do like the Hyundai Genesis sedan, but seeing so many in silver just makes it feel so...generic. X_X Could be mistaken for so many other large sedans...

except business suits don't come in dark red :P

car paint is a sort of "damned if you do, Damned if you don't", like some other topics on the web in other places. if it's bright colors, it attracts cops, raises your insurance rates by making you drive more aggressively, and is hard to remix if it's non-standard; if it's dull it's seen as cold and boring and you forget to do maintenance because you think it's a tank.

at least they aren't in pastels, that'd make a LOT of people shudder in revulsion

Not sure how having a red car or whatever would make one drive faster, Sniffs. Maybe its because I'm in my mid 20's now but my cars have gone from white to green to blue and now two red cars. The two red cars are the fastest cars I have ever owned and I have never driven slower LOL. My mustang makes somewhere around 350 at the crank (300 at the wheels on dyno) and I don't think I've ever gone over 90 in it.

I think in 10 years people will look back on the 00's - 15's as we now look on the 80's as the beige car period, lots of unimaginative colors such as granite, gunmetal, silver, silver-[insert real color here]-pearl, etc.

A sort-of "premium" used car dealer sells what I would call a contradiction, a beige STI. I say contradiction because,as we all know, the Subaru has some very outlandish assets and again, as we all know, beige is for the cream of the crop of boring cars. I actually kinda liked it.

While on the topic of Subarus, I want to say that the World Rally blue is boring for them. Every WRX/STI I saw was in this color. I know it's iconic, but that doesn't mean that they all have to be that one color. If every WRX and STI were in a giant car park at the same time and all the owners were placed outside and told to find their cars, I bet over 50 percent of them would be searching for hours unless it had some exterior mod to give it away.

It's a really cool color because it's usually reserved for high-end cars' colorful palettes. Nobody orders plain old gray, but I think it's a really neat color. Just as good as silver if you're planning colored wheels for your car, except the gray is less common and more interesting than silver.

The colour is like that found on plastic models that you have to build. Not a complaint though...

Oh DEAR 👎 That's really not a pleasant colour, particularly in non-metallic form.

Boring and hideous:

See now I think the Alhambra can get away with it - sort of. The Exeo, on the other hand...

I don't know, dark brown looks good on luxury cars. the SLS AMG looks amazing in dark brown.:dopey:

I think the Exeo is about as much a luxury car as a VW Santana to be honest

The main reason I don't think it works is the fact that it's so slab sided. On the Alhambra it brings out the creases and shapeliness of the bodywork, but the generation of A4 the Exeo's based on doesn't have that same look. The current one, on the other hand, suits it a little better:

Though admittedly that appears to be an entirely different hue.

White car owner here, boring? Maybe, blends in- definitely. I like clean and avoiding attention (though it can be hard in the sti).
That said, I loved my dyno blue pearl civic, that color was awesome on the fa5.

Yep boring colors that blend in can be very helpful,:sly: plus white can be very nice if the trim an wheels are right.

I really like white, it's not really boring because you don't really see that many cars in white compared to beige or silver yet it manages to blend in. The other plus is that it doesn't attract attention when it doesn't have to. The red car in my house is the only one that has gotten a ticket for excessive speed and it's the one with 130hp. On the other hand, the 400hp white car has never gotten a ticket, nor much attention from cops other than once going by a cop and accelerating slighty the sound made the cop look back

That's why they call it "arrest me; red"
I also think that there's "look at me; yellow":)

Prower: no, I was actually talking about the mid fifties pastels. Powder Blue repulses me as much as beige repulses the rest of you

Ampire: these were studies they did in the eighties in the US, back when continuing to make money from friggin anything was really taking off.

vanishing: actually, it looks like primer grey that someone accidentally threw clearcoat into!

then there's MY color of car. everybody calls it "green" (including garage guys), and I keep going "huh"? the closest I can find to the pain chip name actually is green "light Cyprus Green Metallic" or is that pearl, cause in bright sunlight it turns very silver, and only looks vaguely green to me (i actually thought it was "Champagne")

True, but it's the only good (IMO) color they offer on the base model. :p Otherwise it's black, white, or a few shades of gray.

My car is dark silver, but it's because with the specs I wanted (including manual), I could only get silver. When you want a new car with a manual, you can't be picky unless you want to wait 6 months for something to come off the boat.

There will always be one king of outlandish colors.

Some day I will own a 70 Cuda. Some day. Probably should finish the 2 muscle cars I have first before taking on another project.

IMO White is THE worst color to paint any vehicle. Out of all the colors in the world......white. 👎

I've found the resurgence of brown to be pretty interesting in the last year or so. Both the Fiat 500 and VW Beetle offer a very dark, chocolate brown that looks absolutely fantastic in person. Having grown up when brown was still a popular colour, I'm really happy to see it on cars again. It may be a bit boring, but in a world of silver and black, at least it is something different.

Yeah, that was my problem too...kind of wanted dark blue. One was available in the state in red, but it's not what I wanted (it isn't really red, anyhow). Or black, but with $2000 in unwanted dealer accessories. Neither was within 300 miles of home, either. After that, auto-tragic.

Wife likes her Clearwater Blue minivan, didn't like the Metropolitan Gray (which I liked). We both hoped for one in that BRG they reserve for Miatas, but that wasn't on the 5's palette.

That "primer gray" Scion tC is just to make it more fathomable to male buyers. Not that it's a terrible car, it's just a Celica-lite.
