Horsepower inconsistancies

okay didn't read all the posts

but i thought of this already and i think it has to do with the car losing BHP/HP over time. The more youi use a car the more the bhp decreases, so an oil change is needed.

Say a R34, it's max bhp is 868bhp (m-spec nur, i think), i once used it so much without an oil change, it fell to something like 824bhp, that was the bhp shown in those places in the game mentioned earlier. I think the figures stated in the game are minimum horsepower figures..
 
(in reply to rennie 911's post)Yeah...I mean I should be used to it by now but the 88C-V came 12th overall in the 24 hours of Le Mans when it competed and the R8 and V12 LMR are both under powered in the game and both were winners of the 24 hours.

This is correct. Manufacturers claim a certain HP when they advertise cars. When you watch an ad tv and a company claims that their car has 300hp, they are giving you the HP as rated at the engine, with nothing else attached to it. This is the number you will see at the dealerships in the game. Now, when someone dyno's a car in real life, the HP given is what is at the wheels. This will always be less because you have friction through the transmission, all the the drviline parts, water pumps, alternators, etc. All this stuff takes power away. This is called parasitic loss. So the power at the wheels is always less than at the engine. This is the number you see at the beginning and end of the races. In the case of certain Japanese cars, EVO's and Skylines for example, Japanese automakers had an agreement that they would not make cars over 276hp. Well, they didn't really stick to that agreement, so those cars in reality make around 300hp. But Sony PD used the published numbers. All in all, I think Sony PD did an awesome job with the game because they are showing you all the different types of power ratings you will see in real life.
maybe on the japanese cars. But the ignored most american ones. The 2001 camaro ss is underated in real life and my hp didnt jump when i got it to the garage. They even got the tq wrong (250 lb/ft and its supposed to be 350.) Srt-4's dyno at 230 whp, which is around 280 flywheel hp. The mustang is underated in real life too, makes about 320-330. In the big scheme of things it doenst really matter since your gonna mod them anyway, but it irks me when I see some cars get special treatment over others.
 
I'm not picky about machines. I'm not bothered if someone gets a stat on one of my own American cars. I won't want to petition that we get Americans to work on GT4 to get American cars right (and almost totally disregard anything not American). I think the HP consistencies are weird, but not stupid. I think I remember hearing in Le Mans 2004, that for the 24 hour race, the cars had a 10% HP restriction, so a more powerful car can be silenced pretty well. I normally go on the HP figures for when browsing cars in my Garage. I'm okay if I have a 1,001 hp Nissan R92CP. I'm okay if I have a 1 HP Daimler Patent Motor Coach. Regardless, the figures may be weird, but if you don't care about horsepower, then hopefully handling and weight and such will make for a nice car regardless of how GT4 rates the HP of your car.
