The train is cheaper? Not many! I paid £3,100 for a 12 month season ticket to London from K*nt. AND I still had to drive to the station of a morning. AND pay for parking.

Roughly 85% of our petrol prices goes straight to the Exchequer.

But we also get a higher standard Octane fuel than Americans do. Our normal unleaded is 95 Octane, with Super-Unleaded, for higher performance cars, at 97 Octane. I believe 88 Octane is normal Stateside?

Conversion factors:
1 Imperial Gallon = 4.546 Litres
1 US Gallon = 3.785 Liters
Current Exchange Rate (as 6pm GMT 18/1/04)
US$1.81 = 1 £UK
0.54 £UK = 1 US$

So 78.9p/litre becomes £3.58/gallon (Imp) or £2.99/gallon (US) - or $6.48/gallon (Imp) or $5.41/gallon (US). Ouch!

The train is cheaper for me, because I commute from suburban London to central london. Kent to London via train would be a bastige. I pay about £100 for a monthly ticket so it would be about £1200/1300 a year. I'm pretty sure I was paying more than £100 a month on petrol.

Edit: Hey, there re-playing the toyota hilux destruction topgear thing again.

In the states, well Michigan at least 87 is for regular, 89 for midgrade, and 91 for premium.

But thats insane how much you guys pay, and I'm complaining about paying 1.87 per gallon right now. I would buy that Mercedes SMART car if I was over there

:yuck:

I'd just buy a Ford Fiesta, because they are the awesomes. Actually I could think of several small cars to buy other than that orrible smart car. Especially because the glass roof has been known to shatter at higher speeds.

Its the only small car I could think of, there were a ton of them in Germany when I was there, they always made me laugh cuase they were small and I wondered if anyone would survive a crash in that thing.

Now do the new Fiesta in the UK look better then the craptastic American couterpart?

I heard that guy drives like a mad bastard! :scared:

I'm not to fussed about petrol prices really, i'm more bothered about insurance. But i'm sure that will change when I get older, or when I move to somewhere that isn't London.

The ford fiesta, looks like this.

That's the RS turbo version (Popular among people who live in Essex :odd: ), it's not big in the power stakes, but the fiesta is very light. So it's pretty quick, they do have a bit of torque steer.

Ford Fiestas ARE awesomes. And I should know - I've had three of them!

And yes, I've got a 1994 (L-reg), 1.3i 5 door for sale. 60,000 miles only. £1,000.

Any takers? :D
