And that fear is right because we have alot of stupid people in a sub 100hp civic crashing all the time because they think they can drive it like a racer car and that they are the best drivers in the world.

Sounds like a pretty ignorant statement to me

"WILL NEVER"

Japan needs to put out a good V8 before they are contenders with horsepower.

They already have alot of "good V8" out. Check out Lexus website. Also V8 is not the largest japan has gone try a V12 in the Toyota Century. V8 was in 1967 Century so Toyota knows about V8s.

Put a Japanese V8 against an American or even a European V8 and they'll get owned hands down. And I'm not talking about V12's, I'm talking about V8's. I don't know a damn thing about those.

I looked at the Lexus website, a 4.3L V8 engine. Thats just sad. My truck has a 4.3L V6. Once again Japanese V8's blow. There is no replacement for displacement.

*this is in the LS sedan which weighs close to 4,000 pounds, thats just bad, there is no performance there.

your 4.3 V6 - 220bhp - 270 lb ft - 15.4 qtr
Lexus 4.3 V8 - 290bhp - 320lb ft - 14.5 qtr

Your engine is much better!

One is a 6 and one is an 8 that is expected. Id rather have the Lexus though. Friend has a Jimmy and its a peice of junk.

Did I say my engine was better? No. I'm just saying that Japanese engines have very little displacement. I was just comparing my V6 is the same size, which is sad. Why doesn't Japan make a V8 in the 5.0+ L range. But I would laugh my ass off to here about a Japanese 305, 305, or 383.

What year Jimmy?

My '95 S-10 also has a 4.3 Vortec V6, it's the most problematic motor/vehicle I have ever owned. (Purchased new.)

I guess almost all the GM 4.3's have a problem with engine oiling sooner or later.. *Cough* poor build quality..*Cough*

Japan go for efficiency and technology over brute force. They obviously have no desire to build big engines as they can get the power and efficiency they want through using smaller engines.

I can just imagine a discussion in the Honda/Toyota/Nissan boardroom now. "Lets build a big 5.0litre V8 that'll get 15mpg if we're lucky so that BlazinXtreme can laugh his ass off at us"

Hmmm funny you'd say that I've seen the 4.3's run well into the 250,000 mile range. I've never had a problem with my engine and I'm pushing 22,000 miles.

There not poorly built, showing once again your a moron when it comes to American Trucks.

You want proof look at a Mercedes Benz or BMW engine.

But if Japan is so techno sound then why can't they build a 5.0 or bigger that gets 20+ mpg???

Go to ANY of the 4.3 liter boards, and you will see the NUMEROUS problems. Then again, your engine is probably better then every other 4.3 GM made... (Sarcasm)

I have owned my truck for over 7 years, which is longer than you have been driving Jr. I speak from experience, something you lack.

Take a look through this thread, how many people agree with you?

I belong to Blazinlow, a forum full of Blazer, Jimmy, Bravada, Typhoon, Syclone, S-10 and Sonoma owners and they mostly say the 4.3 is a great engine.

And do you think I care if people agree with me, if you don't like what I'm saying just push the ignore button or just stoping talking about it.

I'm guessing here, but I would imagine that the bigger the engine means the cylinders are bigger which would mean that more petrol is needed to create a big enough explosion to drive the piston back down.

EDIT: And petrol is a bit more expensive elsewhere. It's £3.40 a gallon here

But if Japan is "god" at making fuel efficent engines I would think they could make a fuel efficent 5+L engine.

Did I say they were?

But it's probably a physical impossibility. Bigger cylinder = more fuel.

I just figured they could use there "impressive" technology everyone talks about. And yes many people think they are "gods" which they are not.

Do you have any idea how a M-A-R-K-E-T works? Supply and demand? Do you know how much a liter of gasoline costs in Japan? How crowded and small the roads are? Do you know what tax penalities are incurred on large displacement vehicles in Europe and Asia? Do you have a clue about regional and cultural perferences when it comes to buying cars?

No, it appears you don't.

Japanese makers don't sell many V8s because they don't have a large domestic market for them. Pure and simple. Its not because they don't know how, its because they won't bother with it if they don't think they can make money doing it.

I'm just sick of people telling me how great Japanese engines are, because they aren't. European engines are much better.

And I'm just talking about the American market. I mean if Japan wants to sell cars here they need to think about American consumers.

If gas prices are so high in Europe why does MB make big V8s and even V12s???

Because if you can afford to spend upwards of £80,000 on a car, you can afford the petrol.

And the majority of Mercs are 4, 5 & V6's.

lets put it this way....japanese cars are built to have underrated engines and get excellent performance. America just doesnt want american cars they want japanese and european cars as well as korean ones. a skyline could probably beat a corvette if the driver is skilled enough, as power isnt everything.

[sarcasm] I'll still never buy a Japanese car as long as I live, a european car, maybe. But never a Japanese car. [sarcasm]

So then why do people think American cars suck and say they'll never buy them? I'm just going about it the same way.

Ah yes... An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. It must be great to have a mind closed to possibilities.

Is a Ford owned, Ford-Europe built Ford Focus an American or European car? How about a Ford owned, Japanese built Mazda 3? And I'll remind you that they are in fact the same car (well.. when the new Focus comes out).

How about a German-owned (VAG), Spanish built SEAT Leon? Or a German-owned, German built VW Golf? Again, the same car.

Let's get more esoteric - Japanese owned, British built Nissan Micra? American owned, Japanese built Mitsubishi Starion? American controlled, German built Mercedes S600?

Learn to love all cars, unless they are bad.

And I understood your original point - powerful American cars have more power than powerful Japanese cars. But now you've just gone off on one.

I'm just looking at it is as people saying they wouldn't buy an American car soley based on it orgin or the "poor build quality". I know that cars come from other countries and I know there are different owners.

I'll still never buy a Japanese car as long as I live, a european car, maybe. But never a Japanese car.

This was sarcasm.

Sounds like you have a issue with prejuducial thinking. No wonder the rest of the world ridicule Americans for being close-minded and ignorant.

News flash. Japanese brands sell very well here. Have you been asleep since 1973?

Fairy snuff then :D 'Cos my Japanese car has a higher top speed than yours... :p

I wouldn't buy an American car because... I can't. Last time I checked there were only 8 cars of American origin on the British new car market - and one of those was the Cadillac STS.

And no Brit would point the finger at American cars for build quality... Sure we have Honda and Nissan factories here, but our own home-grown cars are TVR and Lotus... :D Aston Martin have got better since Ford came in, although the DB7 was highly Mondeo inside. Elsewhere in Europe we have such [sarcasm] highly reliable marques [/sarcasm] as FIAT, Alfa Romeo, Peugeot, Citroen and Renault. And the third Ferrari Enzo Ferrari to make it to these shores threw an alternator on the A12, causing a 6 mile traffic jam I was stuck in.

As it happens, one of the good points of my car (a Mazda) is that, on average over the industry in the UK, Mazdas break down least often and cost the least on average to repair. But that's not the reason I bought it :D
