In the mood. You pick a car, track, and tuning state (no major prize cars, please, lost my save so don't have most of those at the moment.)

I would but i think i dont understand how are we gonna actually race! :P Playing timetrials and saving the record?

Oh, just run a bunch of laps in trial mode in simulation with the car you like (granted, you have to find a sim race your car can enter, but don't worry about racing, just run like 10-15 laps in the test/trial mode of the race (where you're supposed to be testing your tuning setup, but not actually racing...) Post section times if you like, or just the best lap time you get.

Okay, here's an example.

I took the Tom's T020 MR2 to Trial Mountain, with no tuning applied, all stock. After 10 laps, the best I could manage was 1:41.231 at 126.67mph. I know I left a lot of room for improvement, maybe as much as 2 seconds, but getting a 100% clean, error free lap is tough with this guy. I was still working out ideal braking points and cornering speeds. And so many times getting stuck at low rpms though a big corner, this car needs the rpms to be kept high or there's just no power.

I like hot laps more than races because races are easy, just pick the right car. Squeezing the most out of a car, any car? Now that's a challenge!

My lap with the Tom's T020

Did it in 4th lap. I think i'm able to cut half a second, those last corners were pretty sloppy. As soon as anybody beats this i will give it another go.

Lap time 1:37.152

Nice lap! You're good with the manual shifting, too, kept the rpms high a lot like you needed to, nice aggressive cornering, I noticed one thing you do differently at Trial Mtn than me, the way you take the hard right after the first tunnel, your slowest speed is a little before the apex, and you're already accelerating and gained like 3 mph by the time you hit the apex. I normally hit the apex at my slowest speed, braking later than you perhaps, but coming out slower.

Well, I knew there were at least a couple seconds to give, but 4? Makes me want to try some more. If I can get close, how about you throwing a track/car combo at me to try?

Edit: got down to 1:38.333, and still not close to what I did section by section over 38 laps, just could never quite put it all together, this is one temperamental little MR. Skittery/hoppy. Could pull 116-117 through the first downhill left-right on a flying lap, hold 114-112 through the sweeping left at the bottom of the hill and before the tunnel. About 68 if I hold it right/set it up right through the first tunnel, first section 18.1 was the best I got (a few times, though.) Put it through the following hard right at 60 at the apex, 83-84 before the next right that I hold at 77, brake a little down to 75 before hitting it hard to the left, trying to clip it as tight as possible for a hard run up to 84 when entering the long back straight tunnel. 46.5 or so 2nd sector. Late brake and corner/drift to catch the hairpin at 65-66 tight inside and come out at 73 before you get into the little zig-zag. Braking just at before the peak of the little rise before th next downhill right, down to 63 before/while cutting it over the rumble strips, and 71-72 as you come out of that corner and clip the rumbles on the left side of the track. 1:13 or so 3rd sector. Brake/turnin over rumble strips to the left, hold at 64-65, be doing 73-74 when I hit the straight after that corner, flying through the high speed chicane and hitting the finish straight doing 110, lap time low 1:37's if I put my sectors together, max speed 126.3.

Have you got the Arcade disc? I was thinking about Rome-Night in Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 '95.
Just a random combo, havent tried it yet but should be a challenge. The track is very challenging street circuit which requires a fast car, but also has many tight corners.

Here is my lap in the Corvette ZR-1 at the Rome-Night
http://youtu.be/qBwyN7z6ixI
Lap time 1:44.335
Top speed 136.64 mph

The first two sectors were absolutely on the limit but again i got bit sloppy in the last corners. Strangely i did not lose much time even when going sideways.
But still i think if you could go full alien mode you could cut half a second.

I cannot turn the ghost compeletely off, even when turned off from menu, i can still hear it and see it in my rearview mirror. Somewhat distracting.

Finally watched your video after getting down to 1:48.3 and in the 1:49's consistently after 28 laps. And yeah, you do that first section flat out, I've been doing a LOT more braking through there, down into the 70's, while you were like 109 through the whole thing. The rest of the track I was about as fast or wasn't far off. I'll have to work on that first section some more.

I'd mostly only raced Rome Night with the Event Synthesizer and it seems that was bad training for doing hot laps...

Edit: Okay, 2 more laps now and I got a 1:46.484 still with room to spare. 78 through the downhill back chicane, best yet and better than your lap, but still the front part, I'm going to have to watch your lines some more, because it's just so fast I almost think you must have better tires, except the rest of the track proves you're on regulars just like me...

It seems almost impossible to balance the car while keeping the best line through the first sector. Very easy to get some sliding on the soft american springs which are taken from a sofa i think. I did not go flat out, i had to ease the accelerator to get the Corvette turning in some points.
Don't worry mate i have been playing Gran Turismo 2 since the year 2000.

My lap was actually ****ed up:
3rd last corner: sliding and getting back on the power way too late
2nd last corner: full slide and slightly touching the barrier on exit
last corner: missing the apex

I have only mostly raced Rome-Night in the single model races.
But got the real hold of it when completing the Super License to gold.

Don't worry about the chicane apex speed when right after that is 90 right followed by opening long right where you need to get best line. The chicane is so tiny portion of the track.

I ran a lap time challenge series here on GTP back in 2011, ran weekly for quite a while. There were a couple guys from that that could beat me soundly and regularly that I wish would give you a run for your money... where are you MadMax86 and Kingofweasels?

You called ?

I had been tracking this thread for awhile already.

I gave the ZR-1 combo a try last night and did 1:45.942 , can propably break into 1:44's with some practice.

After that I sit down for a few hours to test the Trial Mountain / Tom's T020 combo.

And managed a 1:36.633 - 202.10 km/h

Batiittos , what controller do you use (for that level of throttle control) , if I may ask.. ?

And , how come your game is in MPH / NTSC version? :sly:

MadMax

I tried the Trial Mountain again for 20 laps.
Best laps: 1:36.639, 1:36.635
Not much off from Madmax86 lap, i will beat it later today.

Tom's T020 on Trial Mountain
1:35.971 / 125,30 mph
http://youtu.be/_AvpfagUfK8

Bit sloppy on first corner but other than that i don't think anyone can go much faster.
And if you do i need to see it on video.
I have a feeling that the tyre temperatures still exist even when there is no indicator in hud for them other than in the endurance races. Anyone knows this?

I've run many 20+ lap tests, and had the same notion at one point. Then I decided it was just (as in real racing) that I was passing the limit of my concentration. I learned to stop for a while and come back to a car I'm testing later. Often to beat my previous best time in the first 5 laps. But I don't think that's due to tires hitting the sweet sticky spot temperature wise.

And, seeing that on video is amazing!
