That del sol is amazing! I was thinking 2nd gen CR-X at first which I was excited about but the 3rd gen is even better!!
What color are you painting it? My personal car is Captiva Blue if you want to make a mini :sly:

Painted and clear

It's nothing, just a flat piece of white waterdecal paper painted with the interior's color just so the "door panels" of the wagon don't appear bodycolor. For the record, the casting I'm restoring is this one, the infamous doggie wagon:

Got damn. Amazing.
Thanks Mr C. 👍 That should look pretty awesome with the door interior a different colour to the exterior. Are you going to paint/detail the doggie too? Would be a crime not to.

Ha! I feel dumb. I thought about the Cr-x but then was like naaww that's already got a casting. That looks awesome
Thanks man. 👍 You did come close on a few occassions.

Nessy your putty moulding skills are bloody amazing. That looks bang on for a crx coupe. Absolutly amazing.
Thanks kind sir. 👍

@Nessy

That's some inspiring work. Great job!
Thanks man. 👍 Seeing all the customs you guys do in this thread, inspires me too.

Thanks man. 👍 Captiva blue is my favourite colour for them. I have played with the idea of painting it black when finished (to match my old SiR Transtop), but nothing pops as well as that blue on a Del Sol. I think yellow may suit it also (although never a factory colour AFAIK).
Thanks for the suggestion. 👍

New toys for custom stuff. Went to a sweet hobby shop a friend told me about. Prices are average, but It's the only place Ive found tamiya paints here.

I need an advice, what sort of paint marker can I use for tail lights and signal lights. Thanks.

For lights, if you can find it/order it, most people use tamiya model paint. Usually do a layer of silver chrome, then paint over that with a layer of tamiya clear red or orange. Looks awesome. If you can't, sharpies work fine. Silver metallic sharpies would work for the vents, but be careful not to get it on anything else.

I finished up my little 40 Ford camper, since I'm still working on the Supra drag car this has become my first fully custom Hot Wheels. I think I really want a full size version of this haha :D The blue truck is what the casting started out like, the paint and tampos were the only thing different than the one I modified.
Also, sorry for the crappy pics, I borrowed someone elses camera and still have to sort out the lighting in the makeshift bucket "studio!"

Going to hold off on the Datsun trunk as it will be a lot of work for a car I am not super excited about at the moment.
I bought a pair of '32 Fords. This one I want to go for more of a rat rod look. I don't want to give any more away than that.

Hey, i forgot i picked up one of those a while back, at a car boot sale.

Not my pic, but it's exactly the same as this:

That red base has gotta go though. Not 100% decided what i'm going to do to it, but i have a few ideas. :)

Those wheels look better, who on earth would put bbs style rims on a hotrod? I know it's factory but what was hw smoking?
I don't know, though sometimes i think it could look good on a modern rod, but the 32 in question? Yep i'd have to agree with you. 👍

[EDIT]

I wonder how the 32 would look all 'Tyrrell'ed out.. six wheels (4 upfront) with a V16.

Lol that tyrrell was hideous wasn't it? Imagine the extra time to change tyres in today's formula one again, who in there right mind would think that would actually be an advantage? Extra weight, extra time to change and no more grip than 4tyres, just a brain fart.

The thinking was actually more an aerodynamic advantage. Less drag on the front compared to other cars. It was a good idea, for its time.

Anyway, on with the Hot Wheels.

How could it create less drag? It's just another obstacle the air has to pass over, I can't possibly see how they thought that would give an aero advantage, more like extra grip but that wouldnt even work as it work create even more understeer and oversteer than you average 4 wheeler as it has an extra two tyres to play in the oversteer understeer issue, would have been a pig to drive. But you look back at all these inventions in f1 back then, even the fan car that brabham made, that was a genius invention, along with the aero under body it sucked the car to the road.

The wheels are small enough to not be an obstacle, which is the point.

This isn't how drag works. I assume the idea was that a smaller wheel has a smaller cross section area than a bigger one. But that's just simplifying aerodynamics. You need to take things like turbulence into account.
There's an episode of Mythbusters where they drive two pick ups. One with the tailgate up and the other with the tailgate down. Common sense would tell you that the one with the tailgate down would outlast the other since it's 'just another object that the air has to pass over', but they found that the opposite was true. The truck that had the tailgate up outlasted the one that had it down.
It's not the same thing, but it's an example how drag isn't as simple as it seems.

And it seems to me that you think the car was a total failure. It wasn't. Tyrell finished 3rd in the 1976 championship.

@legacyMACHINE is right. It's all about frontal air flow. The first iterations of the 6 wheel Tyrrell were genius at the time. The good thing was, the car had the same (if not more) of a tyre contact patch, which would have been great handling. Later Tyrrell 6 wheelers suffered from an increased footprint width and the front tyres exceeding the aero of the front wing.. that and Tyrrell wasn't getting the special sized tyres developed by the tyre companies, at the same rate as other F1 teams. 👍

Haven't done any more to the Del Sol as yet, but i did throw up some lines on it with a pencil.
It needs more putty adding to the front bonnet and bumper, and lower windscreen frame.

@Apok I hope you don't mind too much buddy, but i kind of copied a great idea you had.. :guilty:

After seeing your post in the HW & MB collectors thread, i couldn't resist getting my hands on one of those Majorette Toyota Celicas. I'd been wanting to do a custom of one for ages (a Celica 2000), but my only option would have been using a Tomica (quite pricey), then i learned (thanks to you 👍) that Majorette had made one, so i managed to pick one up quite cheaply.

Finally managed to start my custom the other day. And yes, iv'e puttied the doors closed and the lights.

(The two Zeds have homes to go to when finished, had to start them again after having issues drilling holes for the lights.) :grumpy:

Well the drs system they use in formula one today works of lowering the rear wing, just like lowering a tail gate and it gives them a speed advantage. But now it has been mentioned, those tyrrell front wheels were smaller wernt they? Like go kart wheels, the air flow would go over the front wing and bypass the front tyres completely.

@ nessy your crx it's turning put awesome, how you score the door markings and taillights and such? Ingraver?

Thanks man. 👍

I have yet score the lines but i usually start with a scalpel. I very lightly (and carefully) score, until i feel confident to go a bit heavier. It can be a bit hard to see the line, so maybe masking a line with tape would be a good idea. Finally i use the pointy tip of a metal file to give the line a bit of weight. 👍

[EDIT]

A scribe tool should work pretty well too.

I love how some people are like look, I made wide fenders with putty! and @Nessy is over there like hey look I made a whole new car! Looking better and better. Like that Celica too. By the way what did you use as the basis for that. A civic?

Side note: I learned more about the Tyrell Six wheeler than I ever knew just from those posts. Good stuff. I love learning new car stuff.

'32 Ford body is off to the paint booth. My first attempt didn't go so well. I bought one of those Testors air brush kits and it just splatters the paint. Guess I am going to rattle can the bodies.
I used a spare set of real riders. Custom axles and spacers in the rear because I used oversized rear wheels instead of the standard large ones. Cut a hole in the roof to make room for the crazy shift knob.

Started and finished these two Datsuns today. Nothing major, just some RRs and a little detailing. I had a red 510 wagon and liked the glass, interior and chassis from it more than the yellow version.
