tail draggers are always popular to custom. I did a couple a long while ago. I did a convertible and used black vinyl modelers top to create a boot. did you fit the wheels/chassis before paint?

I did yea, and they fit almost perfect. A tiny bit of rub, but nothing to mess with smooth rolling. I didn't know people have done it before, but it doesn't suprise me. I just picked it cause it's one I didn't really have any attraction too, just had it. I'm not getting too crazy with mods to it, as I'm not rolling in cash to buy tools or materials. But that's cool. Simple is nice.

Lol I meant tomica. Kyosho don't have 1:64 scale I could only find a 1:43 and that's to big for what I want to do.

Is the first car here not the one you're looking for?

I chose this '67 Charger as my first Hot Wheels to customize.
I bought another 30 sets of RRs. Thinking I will paint it a similar dark blue colot as stock and keep the red interior.

Alrighty then. So last I posted, I was at this stage.

And now I'm at this!

Just kidding. My efforts went.... Mmm. Decently ill say. I painted, and detailed, then clear coated. Finally it's all to gather, though not completely fastened, as I'm not sure if I'm gonna keep it or sacrifice it. Oh and I'm already working on something else. Fun stuff. Anyway pictures!

The headlights bezels are actually the metal under the paint. I sanded the paint off around the lights and painted the lenses white. The base, and bumpers, and grill are painted silver, while the hood, fender stripes and window frames are silver sharpie. Not sure I like the fender stripes.

Siooo. Thoughts. Tips. Opinions.
Thhank you and goodnight!

So I was just wondering if anyone has done any of the motorcycles, the mainline ones and if they are hard to do? I have a Ducati and I kinda thought of popping it but I don't want to if it isn't possible or worth trying

So, plans changed. The Hot Wheels Nationals convention was in town so I went and checked out. I bought a few items and customized this AMC AMX. I think it came out quite well for a first attempt. The donor rubber wheels came off of a NASCAR I found for $1. Should have bought a dozen of them.

This is what the kids are doing these days right? What do they call it? "stanced"? Am I doing it right?

So anyway. Second gen Volkswagon Golf GTI. I stripped it down and actually really love the look of the raw metal. So I decided to leave it unpainted, and sharpie in the lights and black body details. I used interwebz pics to get the details as close to stock as possible. Oh and shot clear coat over it cause it kept rubbing the black fenders off. This wasn't even the project I was working on but it called out to me. I wasn't going to keep the red windows, but they actually look pretty alright with the silver. The picture with the Subaru is because that one was the closest in ride height to how the vdub started. Anyway. Have a nice day!

That looks really good. I've been pondering whether or not to crack mine open. To be honest, I think that stancing your car is stupid unless it's for hardcore racing. But just having your wheels cambered for 25 MPH cruising is a waste of 4 tyre sets a year (my friend has a BMW E30 which is stanced, drives me bonkers).

Hot Wheels calls that unpainted look a Zamac, I believe. I have a Charger Daytona and a Chevelle SS wagon like that. It lends well to some cars. And I think it looks good on the Golf. By stanced I figured you bent the axles or something to give them some crazy camber too. I have an old Skyline and a ton of wheels I've pulled off cars, I guess I should try it.

That poor, poor E30. Waste of a beautiful car. Thank you for the compliment also. I was half joking about the Stanced thing, I really hate it usually. I just felt like it looked like that's what I was trying to do. I just wanted to slam it to the ground with the very common in the real car scene bbs lace rims. I think I did alright.

Zamac is indeed what they call it. I actually bought 2(?) Today. If you care about those and the question mark ill explain that at the end. No the Stance thing is a car scene thing where people slam the car till everything underneath is threatened to be ripped off as soon as you hit a pothole, while filling the wheel wells as full of rim and stretched tire as you can. As prior stated, I hate it. Also, thanks for the compliment.

As for the Zamacs. Along with a 510 wagon and a Chevy Nova, I bought 2. I think. A 71 el Camino and a Porsche 911 gt3 rs. I know the Camino is one. The 911 though, it has a grey one on the card, and no zamac emblem. But it's definitely a zamac as its paintless, with tampos. The Camino had a unique card for it, with it silver and zamac emblemed. I'm not sure if they just reused a card or what. I would think it was an error but I found several.

Love those pink rims.

VIP? I don't get it. I like the old school wheel look on newer cars they should no way be mounted to. But the slammed and cambered look is too much.

I don't get why people go overboard on the depth level of deep dishes. I can't say I like the style of spokes either, nor the protruding lip/small tire look, but I do however like how low they got it.

Something about rectangular-shaped bodies with low ground clearance is so appealing to me.

You'd have to have a more profound grasp of the VIP/Bosozoku culture to understand/appreciate where it comes from. The look has it's background, as well as the impossibly deep wheels. As fot how low they got them, well, they don't roll.

True enough. The bozu culture hasn't ever really struck an interest in me to do any sort of background reading. I might do some of that eventually.

Warning: long post!

I had plans to do something like this. Some people are all over it already:

Doo it! This is awesome, especially the Toyota. It would be cool to do with some big 80s sedans. I'd be interested in someone doing this style with an American or Europe sedan, since is pretty much a Japanese style exclusively.

So because why not. I thought I'd go over my plans and what I'm doing. See if I get any enthusiasm.

IMAG0221_zps8a311548.jpg~320x480

So I did this a couple days ago, and then found something awesome I'd like to try with it, but I have to get putty, and honestly I might need another one, cause the inside and chassis got pretty chopped and such to make those wheel fit inside it. And the idea I have would look better with clear glass too. So basically on hold.

Nissan 370Z hot wheels
This is probably the one iv don't the most on, as I carried it around yesterday and sanded the crap out of any rough spots I found when I had some free time. Last night I detailed the interior a little bit, and the chassis, but that might change so it may have to be redone. the metal peice up front is work on a front splitter. I'm also looking for a GT style wing, of one of those bumper mount wings, if anyone has any ideas.

Custom Dodge Van.
Still have no idea what I'm going to do with this one. I just had 2 of them and this cast had a couple weird flaws in it. Part of the front bumper was filled in and one side had a bunch of little holes in the zamac.

Stingray concept and 63 sringray drop top
Ugh. I'm doing some kind of duo with these. That 63 made me mad. It was a mystery model and looked regular on the package and came out like that. Well it was gold but you know. Excuse the paint in the grill. My aerosol paint stripper decided to clog and so it's not working well currently. I'll get em off before I do anything though.

Speaking of Myster models. I ended up with 2 MR-s tooned versions, due to forgetting there was a tooned version and grabbing one for me and one for a friend. Cool car, not my favorite casting, but It's not the worst either. I didn't do much, just a wheel swap, as the original wheels were horribly small, and a spoiler swap, and detailing. Weirdly the correct size ties made it a little taller, but I don't know that I could have made it lower without having the wheels rub the body. It's ok. Better in concept I think but I Still liken it. I tried to make it more cartoon and exaggerated.
Oh and fun fact. The rear axle is a paperclip. The original axle I was gonna use got knocked off the table and i spent 20 minutes searching for it. And I was my last one. Ack. So paperclip was employed. It worked mostly. It's very hard to make it completely straight and I spent awhile trying but I'm pretty sure mine still doesn't. Also the ends you can only bend to keep the wheels on. But it works! I'm not super into this casting anyway, so I probably won't come back to it.

The funny thing I noticed is that the Tooned MR2 normally has larger wheels, the same sized wheels you installed recently.

I don't know if your car is a product defect, or if maybe Mattel forgot what wheel size to use.

I think it has to do with it being a mystery model, cause I have 2 and both were like that. Which is weird to me, but I bet they're all like that

Got a shipment of Hot Wheels in today I found on eBay. I am a little disappointed a couple have blue windows but they all are cars I've been excited to modify.

Mmmmm Ford GT. Can't wait to see what you do with that one. And what's the silver with red interior on second row?

'67 Dodge Charger. Actually it is a GT40 not the newer Ford GT. All these except the NASCAR and Torino Telladega came from a '98 and/or '99 first editions set.
