So, I didn't have to work today so I basically spent all day working on this:

BMW 318ti made out of a BMW E46 M3 Race. I shortened it and then glued the rear bumper to make it a hatchback. After sanding it some the final result became this (sorry about the poor quality photos, my camera is getting repaired):

Thoughts I guess? I might strip it and re-detail it because I did a horrible job
 
Well how does a real car get old and rusted?

Next, remember this is crafts. You can simulate the look of anything if you put your mind to it. Have you considered paint?

Wet sanded using 1000 grit (top half). Later buffed with bare metal polish (below)

I will need to go back and wet sand this at 2000 grit to remove some of the other imperfections, then do one last polish with clean hands to get rid of as many scratch marks as possible.

I would recommend getting some micromesh. With it you can gradually sand to silly grits. My set goes to 12000 I believe.
 
I've heard about 12000 before, but I almost feel going over 4000 is overkill since you can barely notice a difference at that point.

It's not as easy as it seems, I've tried it myself since there's a guy in Mexico that's been doing these wheel-on-wheel thing since a while ago and gave me a few pointers. Basically getting the center of the wheel perfectly round is going to be your biggest concern. Takes a few tries to get it sorted. I've had no luck whatsoever.
 
It may be easier to pull it off with a small vice and drill press.

It may also help to drill a bigger pilot hole than the hole use for the axle.

So. The convention's custom contest takes place in roughly a month and a half, and neither I nor Ahmed did anything specifically for entering on it. While we're both kinda fed up with it, we also need to have some presence there because the blog is quite well known in the mexican customizing community. We have a few already done cars but nothing really competitive, so it seems we'll just go there to blend into the other cars with whatever it is we end up entering, and covering the contest for the blog.
 
hi Everyone..
i'm a beginner in this custom Diecast World..
and i find this thread is a heaven for a noob beginner like me..

so, this is my first custom..
it's a HotWheels 71 Charger..
i started it out with removing the decals with Cajuput oil..
and then i start to hand draw something with Rotring Isograph. Also i added some details on the grill.. Not a permanent ink tho, and i'm sure i will need a clear coat to protect Her new tattoo..
and, next thing, i will do a tire swap, but i haven't had the tires yet, and i'm too afraid to drill the rivets..
but i guess i'll just drill it..

free-hand drawing in a car is something I've been interested in a while, but I'd never be able to pull it off with my horrible pulse, lol.

Toy do need a clear-coat to cover that or it'll get lost in no time. Pretty amazing so far 👍

No, you misunderstood, I said it's interesting and I'd like to try, but due to my bad pulse, it would come out horrible, lol. I've never tried it.
 
I've been working on the hw Bentley continental supersports this week. Should be done this weekend. Its looking realistic. Pictures comming soon. :-)

new to the forums and hotwheels/hotwheel modding in general, so this is my first matchbox car mod. I got a matchbox 2000 suburban and got a hotwheels f150 as a wheel donor. this thing looks awesome lifted! im going to do a matte black paint job on it and detail it. sometime this week im going to make a brush guard for it as well. i'll post more pictures as i build it. before:

The timing for you doing this is crazy. I'm a BMW enthusiast and have been building my compact (318ti) for the past three years. I just recently decided I would do a custom hotwheel and chose the e36 gtr casting to start. I may need to do another as a compact now that I have seen yours=)

Wow dude, that is really awesome. I'm searching for a used one as we speak, but they are so hard to come by it's a bit of a chore. Mine has all of the M3 body parts on it (the toy one), but I want to make one with basic bumpers and such.
