How can you tell if someone is a good driver?

I don’t kick new guys for driving like new guys. We were all new guys once. We all had to learn how to drive with other people. I expect that if they do something wrong, the wronged party will say something. How else will they learn?

If you want to stay ahead of the riffraff, you need to qualify and start up front.

When they'd rather take 2nd place than make a dirty pass on you

When they know races aren't won in the first corner

When you lose control in front of them, they brake instead of ramming past you

When they crash you out, they pull over and let you go ahead of them

Also, as mentioned, a good driver is someone who allows you to race alongside them even around tight corners (i.e. either knowing or suspecting you are beside them still, so taking a wider line to avoid a collision). It's something i always try to do as i hate making contact with other cars.

One of the things I rarely see online and that really defines a "good driver" is using good judgement on the track. Things like leaving enough gap between you and the driver in front of you when entering particularly tricky corners, not just following right on your bumper and hoping for the best. Knowing when to back out of a risky pass before the corner, realizing that not every pass attempt is a good one. Leaving lots of room for another driver on the inside or outside, even at the cost of the position at times due to being over cautious. Knowing when a mistake on your part is large enough to warrant a "safe" pass attempt as per the GTPOLR and when it's too risky.

When they do not try to go for a pass with little room when the straight is right after. There are many of things good drivers do that usually do not happen on gt5. Do not even mention the first corner of nur, some people just plow on through, when a good driver would stay back. There is another 12 miles for you to pass!

When they realize that they're not Ayrton Senna and that they can't win every race, that second is sometimes the best you can do.

Among other things:

-slow in, fast out
-make the pass on the straights
-draft for the pass
-brake earlier than the guy in front, so that you can accelerate sooner
-two wide through a corner slows you down, so why do it?
-jumping the race start will cause more crashes
-not being on the chat menu in the middle of the track on a standing start
-not stalling on the standing start
-running the correct horsepower/weight
-accepting defeat

This reminds me of the one corner of Trial Mountain Circuit, that big 170ish degree corner, it's so much fun to dive bomb into the corner and pass the other driver, but on the way out they get passed back. lol as long as they are both skilled enough to not crash each other, that is.

On a side note, the F1 cars up there are hilarious . ^^

You need to be good driver to be good racer, it's a step up There are good racer who are not really a good driver, they are worth nothing IMO. They may posts fastest time because they have faster ride or their sheer talent, won many races, but their on and off track behavior sucks ( threatening words and actions, dirty moves, cheating ), no respect given.

This is the kind of things self absorbed people do in any sports which turns people away from them. I noticed this on quite a few occasions at Karting tracks, Autocrosses, and even the Paintball field. It is ashame that some people need to take their frustrations out on others do to their inefficiency.

In my book, any good driver is a good racer, good racer means able to race clean, fair and courteous. It does not matter if they are in top 3 or 10 or last row of finish, if they drove like a gentlemen, they deserve respect and admirable sportsmanship. There's only one winner if every race, and not all winners are good driver or racer. But those who are behind the winner, as long as they raced clean and fair, they are all good racer as they are good driver.

100% agreed here, A winner also knows that the top podium spot does not make him a winner. A Good Racer and a Good Winner will take lessons from each experience and utilize them in the future. A Good Racer, Winner and Sportsman will joke, laugh, have fun, and teach others along with listening to others on how to improve.

I am not the fastest guy out there, but one thing is sure, I have fun racing, along with making numerous friends doing so in life both on and off the Gaming Consoles.

This is the exactly what good Racecraft is. It is a quality that both good racers and good drivers need. We are humans too that make mistakes. Sometimes we see a hole or an opportunity that looks promising and screw up real bad. You can't fully fault someone on that. If said individual is consistently doing the same thing over and over again then the individual in question is a bad racer, a bad driver and demonstrates bad racecraft.

That's exactly my point: It takes a supreme amount of skill not to cause a crash whilst divebombing. 👍 to the drivers who can manage it, consistently. I might just have to compare you to Kobayashi.
