i need to know is there a way to save halfway between or somewhere in a championchip series raceor something like that

during a race series, you will be given the opportunity to save after each race. if you mean during an actual race, as in Lap 10/25, there is no way to do that.

Yes, you don't have to run the whole series in one shot. Between races on the 'Results' screen there are two save buttons. One has a movie camera on it, but you want the other one with the mem card on it.

You can use this to make sure you get your choice of prize cars. Save your game before the last race. If you are more than 10 (I think) points ahead, start the race and quit it after a few seconds. You will win the championship and get a prize car. If it's not the one you want, just reload the game and repeat the last race start until you get it.

can you save your game during a series race and turn off the ps2?

Only inbetween the series races. After every race, there is an option to save your game near the end of all of those other ones (next, replay, etc.). You can turn off your PS2 after you have saved, heck, you could play another game or whatever. When you turn it back on with GT3 in the PS2, it will automatically load you and take you to the point you were in when you saved (ex: Race 9, it gives you the same screen as you had when you saved).
