How do you add to realism?

Just curious as to what some of you do to make the game more realistic. I know it will never be 100% accurate to real life, but what little things do you do to get that extra bit of realism out of it?

I've been doing this thing lately where if I hit the wall hard enough, I immediately end the race (that goes for hitting another car hard enough, too) and retire the car for day. If I hit super hard (like bounce off the wall into uncoming traffic and am hit, or fall victim to those corners in New York), I end the race and sell the car (if it's one that has no price, I keep it). I consider it trashed and will have to win/buy it over.

Dorky? Probably, but it puts the pressure on me for good clean races.

Best thing I have done (and I wished I had done it much much earlier) was to buy the DFP wheel. There is nothing else which brings the game to a more 'realistic' level.
The other thing I do is to have a go at favourite tracks ( the Ring being by far my number !) in stock, basically unmodded cars and also avoid the cars with HP above 800ish HP. There is more fun and realism -at leat to me- to go around the track in Ruf or an M-series BMW than in a C9 or F1 car.

...and I thought I was the only one to quit race after hitting hard enough to cause damage. I dont go to the extreme of selling car tho...

Agree with everything you've written, I use N2 tyres when doing the above too.

If you want to add to realism, get the DFP. And use N-tires for cars that you drive on the road. Use S1-S2 tires for highly modified street cars, and R1-R2 tires for race cars. And like STINGER05 said, don't use overpowered cars for races, like a Ford GT in the MR series in the Beginner Hall. Or a 1200hp Minolta in the Nurburgring 24h race.

I use a racing cockpit with DFP. I sit in it with full racing fireproof overalls and a helmet. I have a fan blowing cold air into my face. My friend throws bugs into my helmet for added realism.

If I crash my car, I will retire it from the race. If I crash particularly badly, my friend will break one, or both, of my legs. I don't crash much now....

I like driving with no aids, the worst simulation tyres (forgot the name), stg. 1 weight reductions at the most if any, sports suspension at the most, 1.5 diff. if any and no clutch mods. Use the DFP w/o the paddle shift unless the car has it i.e. M3's and DB9's etc.. and with my left foot on the imaginary clutch and letting off the throttle with my right foot between shifts like a real manual transmission unless the car is equiped with a sequential. I just started doing this and i havent felt more satisfied with driving on GT4.

Ok, so how do I put the same pressure on that A"I"? Or maybe they're all modeled after Takuma Sato...
Anyways, most of the time I'm doing just free runs with medium powered cars on N2 tires.

Those are all good suggestions. I have the DFP, and I do actually turn the fan on (it's a ceiling fan, though, and I mainly use it just to stay cool).

Realistic upgrades... no tranny upgrades, period. :lol: ...or if you really want it, use 3-speed A/T ratios for your FR drag cars.

I tend to keep it real, no tuning, and then when I do tune, nothing more than WR2 (WR3 is something only racing teams would do... and since there's no racing mod, it's not really worth it.), sports suspension, chip, etc... I consider anything beyond a sports exhaust and stage I non-street-legal, but that's just me. :lol:

No mods/tuning whatsoever (oil and chassis refresh for used cars though), and the tires as stated above! N for roadcars, S for more high end cars and R1 or maybe R2 for racers. DFP with the obvious 900 degree turning radius.

Tire and brake failures:
Tire pressure lowers on one tire hurting handling and sending the car out of control when it fails.
Brakes with real lockup when pushed to hard. Brake fade is noticable over a 24 hour enduro.

I think it's sad when people start simulating things that are for real in other games like LFS,GTR and netKar. I like GT4 because it's an arcade game and I can let off the serious racing for once and hit a guard rail or two. When I go off track in GT4 I usually just try to maximize the damage since it's not real anyway :)

I assume that most people would like to experience REAL street cars, you know, the ones you see on the street? Not in 3dmodler?

LFS: No real cars
GTR:FIA only
netKar: Never heard of it? Could someone tell me what it is?

netKar is a critically-acclaimed yet honestly underwhelming freelance racing sim for the PC. It's almost as mediocre as Racer.

The only things I do to make it more realistic are set the screen display on Simple and take the map off. Took me a bit to get accustomed to racing without the suggested gear coming up, but I have pretty much all my braking points right by now. :)

I also like to lift as if I had to pop in the clutch when I shift. Except when I'm using the right analog stick for the gas and brake, gets too uncomfortable then.

Keep it real eah?

Let's see:
* Modified DFP & Shifter
* Racing Sim
* Upgraded/Improved Shifter/Handbrake from Frex
* N-Tires on most cars, but will use S-Tires for those cars that fall under 'exotics'....Ruf, DB9, MB-SLR, S7,etc, etc.

NOTE: IMHO, S-tires provide more 'life-like' car handling characteristics then N-tires...but then again, that's just my opinion!:D

I throw myself through my first floor window to simulate any particularly nasty crashes I may have. It's expensive though, because the window has to be closed otherwise you don't get the shattered glass embedded in you, and so the window must be replaced after every crash.

I don't crash very often anymore :D

I recommend that you absolutely do not adopt this strategy as it is extremely dangerous and can result in grave injuries to yourself and anyone unfortunate enough to have you land on top of them. But if you do, remember to have your house keys in your pocket so you can get back in!

You may want to consider buckling up...

...except I sit against my bed, and it's bad enough slamming into the ground all by myself. I don't think I could handle doing it with a bed strapped to my back!

Lieutenant daan, where have you been....?
Good to see you have not lost any of your touch matey! :)

Whenever I change my 318i's oil, I do the entire procedure from underneath the car, and I make "blub-blub-blub-blub-blub-blub-blub-blub-blub-blub-blub-blub-blub" noises whenever I empty and refill the oil.

Oh wait, I thought we were talking about adding GT4 to real life... :lol:
