Yeah, you're probably right. It's just a bad habit I've had since I started driving. I don't even really think about it anymore.

When I first started driving, I did the same thing, but it was more out of stupidity and comfort then anything. . . a few close calls later, time to start sitting like I would when I race on tracks :D

I usually go with 10 and 2 when doing high speed cornering. Otherwise, left hand at 10, right hand on knee, activating/deactivating OverDrive(on the shifter). Sometimes I get cocky and drive with 1 hand at the bottom of the wheel, but my hand gets tired that way.

And no, I don't go gangsta and hold my hand at noon, leaning back in the seat.

Most of the time when I drive I'm showing my skills and acting as if I'm the ultimate racer, so I have the seat back as far virtical as it can go, sitting hard against the seat, left foot on the wheel well part(piece right by the door hinge, hard to explain, but it's where I should have a foot rest) well planted, and right food "in the hole"(my driver's floormat has the heel part warn down to the rubber, from my dad, and I'm constently looking for a better floor mat in the junkyards, but no grey driver's side ones yet) ready for gas or brake.

Yeah..that sounds about right.
I'll have to stop doing it. I don't want my airbag ripping my arm off or something if I'm in an accident.

9 and 3 in traffic (10 and 2 is a bit too high for me), and really far down (8 and 4) on long, straight stretches. When I enter a hard corner, I usually release the grip from my right hand, turn with my left, and re-grip the wheel with my right hand mid-corner on what was the 6 o'clock position, but is now around 3 o'clock... I absolutely cannot turn with both hands for some reason.

I hate driving the Ranger, because its steering is so loose compared to the Subie's... sure, the de-sensitized clutch is a nice thing for a young'un like me, but I can't stand the lack of control when steering, and it also has no sense of straight-ahead and the steering effort doesn't build up when cornering. Bah.
