How do you i.Link?

I want to get a group of my friends together and try a big i.Link race, but I have no idea how to do it. I know each person needs a console and a TV, but do you need a special card or add-on, or is it just a coord? And, where can I get it?

...I had another question but I dont remember what it was...dont you hate that?
 
Yah, i do hate that. But yah, you'll need an i-link cable to do it.
You can get this at any old game store or even walmart sometimes. (depends on where you live) It looks a lot like a dv cord, but they aren't the same thing.

If I'm not mistaken , isn't the " iLink cable " actually a FireWire cable ? They call it iLink for some reason , but it's actually a firewire cable . I'm not sure though .
 
Another question, will I need one for each console, or does one have the 7 ends to connect all 6 racers and the spectator together? And - does each console need its own TV, or is it possible to share one?
 
I'm gonna assume you're in the UK, Monouk.

If you want to i.link 6 machines together you need 6 firewire cables and a firewire hub. I've used the Belkin hub before with no problems, available from dabs.com for £65 +VAT, and (i think but check this 1st) 4 pin to 6 pin firewire cables £14+VAT

You will also need your 6 TVs, 6 PS2s and enough power sockets for these.
 
Sorry, but the US...see my location? Deleware...first state...dont worry, no one else has ever heard of it either.

Im sure our school has some firewire equipment I might be able to borrow...including those video projectors...imagine having 12'x12' races on giant wall...that would be SWEET!!

Only problem - convincing my school to let me use them for 'non-academic pourposes'

That, and figuring ouy how to put the whole thing together...

yeah, I think we have 5 or 6 projectors around the school...I can count 6 off the top of my head right now...um...oh, 7...ok, so as long as I can get permission to borrow them, we have enough.

Im not trying to be rude, but Delaware is spelled wrong. Just thought you'd wanna know.
You'll need tons o' stuff to hook up 6 ps2's together.
 
There's a couple ways to do this:

Use 4 pin - 4 pin firewire cable (a.k.a. i.link) and use a 4 pin hub.
- or -
You can use 4 pin - 6 pin firewire cables and use a 6 pin hub.

Plus like you said, you'll need TVs, PS2s, at least one decent memory card to boot all the systems with... more tracks and more cars, plusthe 6 cables and a hub.

Downside of i.linking... no garage access and no way to replay the race... accept:
If you s set up one of the Stations, to Spectate (can't remember the term, but not Compete) and run a VCR set to record. Have one guy as the "camera man".

Dude, since you're in Delaware, come on up to New Jersey on March 8th. There's one guy who goes to school in DE that's already registered. you might now him... drives a recently fixed CRX.

Well, the cables and things should be no problem, seeing as my school has it all. I would go up to Jersey, but its still a long drive and I dont have a license yet (Im almost 16)...I know of atleast 5 of my friends that play GT3 regularily, so PS2s and discs wont be a problem...

And, I dont think I know anyone that drives a CRX...
 
Ah I see, I thought you were in college. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Good luck with setting up your i.link battle. Looks like you have everything you need.
 
They do make 4 pin hubs... I have one. If you happen to get a 4 pin hub there would be no need to have two different types of cables.
