Speaking of which... I hadn't been on eBay for ages until today when I was there looking for other things and I thought maybe I should check my saved searches. I found this:

This was so much bigger than I realised, it arrived assembled in a laptop box and almost filled the width of it, it's about 40cm long! It was filthy, though, the top was covered in some pretty old-looking dust, but apart from that the pieces were in great condition for a 2003 set, no yellowing at all. And, considering I paid £6 for it, it's only missing 14 pieces of a value less than £1 from Bricklink (albeit with £3 postage). A bargain, I think, especially since I've washed it all now...
 
I'm thinking about selling off a lot of my Lego collection, both boxed and unboxed sets, apart from eBay are there any Lego specific sites in the UK that are good for selling?

Bricklink is by far the most popular but there's also Brickowl. Plenty of shops want to buy second hand Lego too (but that in itself tells you what to expect - you will be lowballed for a quick sale, it's more for parents offloading their kids' Lego hoard than people who actually know what they've got.)

Whatever you do, though, be armed with Bricklink's price guide.

Edit: what sorts of sets do you have? What themes? Asking for a friend...

In the process of trying to catalogue everything, but a bit of everything, Technic, Star Wars, Speed Champions, Icons sets.
 
Took a bit of a risk on this one:

(Pumpkins for scale, it's a big box!)

I've been looking for this for a while but mostly found £60 examples that were guaranteed 100% complete. Found one for £28 described as "appears to be complete" from a business seller on eBay, put it on my watch list, the seller made an offer at £25, I countered with £18 and they accepted.

Now I've got all three of the big Designer vehicles - 4402, 4403 and now 4404 - which has released some good chemicals in my brain. I just hope any missing pieces are common ones and not any of the ones unique to this set.

Edit: after a very quick root around the box it looks like I've got most of the very visible ones that would be hard to replace, so that's cool, but we'll see about the rest!

Edit: 11 missing pieces in the end with a total value between £1 and £3 (depending on used or new), excluding shipping because I've put them in my mega list of missing pieces ready for when I have about £100 to spend. The pieces, except for the tyres which have gone a bit white I think from concrete dust, are in excellent condition for their age too, no broken clips, nicks, bite marks or scratches beyond some minor clouding - not bad at all for 22 years old.

Meanwhile, other listings like this exist:

With two screenshots of a ton of missing pieces. The cheapest on Bricklink in the UK is £50 too, so £18 was good going. Not AS good as getting 4402 for £6 with a similar number of missing pieces but still good!

Dark Red and Reddish Brown pieces are prone to cracking, I believe from sets produced in 2012 (maybe other years, I am not sure) due to some sort of manufacturing issue. So, what I did was order about 850 replacement pieces in these colors from all of 2012's Monster Fighters sets since many of the pieces cracked when building those. Figured I'd have a pile on hand if needed.

But some of the replacement pieces arrived cracked! Pretty frustrating, honestly. I don't think you can get these parts "new", anything you find on Bricklink is going to be old parts so you may get unlucky. I enjoy building and re-building sets, so it's a bit discouraging to see that pieces can just break during the process.

I find it hard to believe a BL seller wouldn't know about brittle browns, shocking that they'd ship them in a manner that would result in them arriving pre-broken. I wonder if 3D printing is the only viable solution to out-of-production brittle pieces?

I thought the same thing, the seller could have been more careful when shipping pieces which are known to be fragile. But on the other hand if they broke in shipping then they were probably going to crack when building with them anyways. Fortunately, I don't need those two pieces in particular, I bought them as spares in case the ones I have do crack.

I'd have to look into 3D printing spare parts. But I also wonder if there are simply other colors I can substitute.
