How does your internet billing work?

Just curious to find out how your internet billing works and how much it costs.

On my side, to get the internet access costs about $10 a month excl time online for a Dial-Up modem. An ASDL line costs about $40 a month.

Then, if you use the internet between 7am and 7pm during the week it works out to about $7 an hr. If you log on after 7pm (or on weekends) it costs about half that.

Thank the lordy for work, eh :mischievous:

wow...I haven't heard of Timebased billing for internet services in a long time. Satellite services used to bill by the byte...they'r eno longer doing that now.

I pay an excessive $50/month for ADSL at 1500KB down and 256KB up. Cable broadband finally got introduced into the area and are offering download speeds of up to 1800 down for $30 per month. All of which are monthly charges only. The other ISP's in the area also only charge by the month.

Not at all... I don't think I would have the service if that were the case. I wouldn't be able to afford it. Between the 4 computers at the house accessing the connection, it's often accessed 24-hours a day...

I use the net - bill arrives - I pay it - net continues working. Simple.

Seriously though - the ADSL plan here goes on downloads. It's currently a 1 gig limit, but there's been a recent realignment so for $2 more a month we get 2 gig - good thing I installed that 120 gig hard drive...

To be expected I suppose. Our telecommunication provider has a monopoly 👎

Man...someone's making some money. With a little bit of working capital, you could lease a couple T-1 lines and sell your own bandwidth to customers with NO PER MINUTE charges. You'd make a pretty pennie, plus YOUR internet service would be free. :)

I was considering that in our area, but now, in our little town of only about 15,000 people....we gave a total of 5 ISP's.

I'm currently using Tiscali.co.uk Broadband (512k down/230k upload) which costs me £24.99 a month. I didnt have to pay any set up fees and I got the modem for free. It was a deal that they were doing about 5 months ago.

We used to have a 15pound a month standard pay for a 56k connection. Then they phoned us up and said we (my family) were one of their biggest domestic users.(theres six of us in teh family, between me, my sister and my father we rack up some serious time) But now we are on a 150k broadband connection, but I dont know the up/down load speeds exactly.

I think we pay £20-£25 a month for 512kps ADSL. There are no call charges we just stay online as much as we want.

£35 per month for 1Mb download/256K upload on cable. No further usage charges. For an extra £15 per month, I could double both speeds. That would rock, but wifey wouldn't be too happy!

$64AU per month flat rate for 512/128K ADSL with a 10GB quota. They shape the connection to 128/128 for the remainder of the month if you exceed the limit, but I'm having troubles just getting half way through it - so I'm happy. After all, it wasn't really the speed I was after, just the ability to get on the net without mother dearest complaining about the phone. 👍

i got 56k dial up at home...

i go online mainly at work where we have a LAN (2000+ networked PCs) with fiber optic T3 thingy leased line....download speeds of over 500kbps i think....this costs £300,000 per year i believe for maintainance and rentals and everything...

but at home...15 quid per month for unlimited usage 24/7...i only use it to check emails...its paid by direct debit..

I have a cable connection at home. It's a rip-off at $50.00 a month. They mail a bill and I mail a check back or pay online. The local DSL provider is much cheaper but not available in my nieghborhood yet. I couldn't take 56K again. At work we have a T1 line, about the same speed as cable.

about 12$/month for broadband without limits (T1 or something). I have a student living with a nice collective deal on internet.

my dsl is about 44.95/month. There are other isps but $44 canadian for a 3mbps line is the best deal out there right now. The speed boost was very recent though. There's another dsl provider in my area who charges about $30 canadian for a 1.5mbps line. How the hell is it so expensive for some of you people?

Wow, I get a good speed but we were never told the actual line speed. I get 343KB Downloads right now. But sometimes, if I don't do cleanup and spyware removal it goes down to 2? KB. :( :( do a speed test at www.dslreports.com and post your results.:P

We pay $45 a month for cable internet w/ advertised speeds of 1500/256. It's by teh month and there's no d/l limit. ;)

$3 dollars a month for 56k dialup that barely sees 44K on a good day. I really want Cable internet but can't seem to convince the parentals that we need it. I cannot stand 56k.
