Hi everyone,

I was wondering how faithful are the drift settings on cars in gt3 to real life cars? I know this is a game but are these realistic setting that would be seen on real life cars to do drifting?? It almost seems like some rules are broken in this game when drifting is done. Thanks

Nick

its the closest ive seen in any game so far but i believe it could also be improved
i hope that happens in gt4

Lol, they're not close at all. I mean, in real cars there is extreme camber is used in some cases and it's easily visually noticable, you can't tell in GT3, not to mention the issue of the "Magic Transmission" where you can add .001 teeth to the gear . Aswell as that, you can easily drift IRL with a 150HP car, and be able to drift with the best of them, GT3, not really unless you have "SIM TIRES" which are so unrealistic it's not even funny. Along with that the issue of tires. You eat tires sooo much faster IRL than in the game, not to mention you have the "Clutch wear issues" IRL as apposed to the game.

driftster if you read my post i said the closests ive seen in a game:rolleyes:

you still have to realise it is just a game (clutch wear:rolleyes: )

dont get offended driftster but you never have anything positive to say in any threads

every thread you write is to prove someone or something wrong

you disagree with almost everyone

I agree about the tire wear, but aside from that the game is very realistic. I don't know what you're talking about with the camber, I use realistic camber levels on all my cars if you look at them. Actually I try to keep all my cars tuned fairly realistic.

i keep all modifications to a minimum to preserve realism. the sim tires are the closest thing to street tires in real life (that's why you can drift a 150hp car) but just like real street tires, they can only handle so much hp. GT3 drifting is very realistic..and i can't wait for GT4. the cars will react even closer to their real life counterparts.

Plus..i'm getting sick and tired of these little kids who think they are pro's at drifting while they don't even have a drivers license. If you havn't drifted in real life...i don't want you to comment in this thread. :irked:

i've drifted a Speedzone cart on the slick track.....=P
i also figured out that if you tap the accel instead of flooring it on the slick trac turns, u won't lose traction lol. I burned everyone on that day. Everyone else just spun out and caused a big chain crash haha

Hey guys,

Yeah, like driftster said they have extreme camber is the most noticeable for me as well. Lan Evo I think on my defense I haven't drifted but I do have a drivers license I think it's safer that I never have because well for one there's no where "safe" to drift here and my car is so old the "rubberband" might break on my car. Please don't ask what kind of car I have. (::coughs:: '88 toyota corolla sr5):odd:  :banghead:

Anyways, even though I never have drifted before I've seen vid of drifting and find it really fascinating because you know these days everyone thinks they can "drive" and well that doesn't mean just going mashing on the gas and going straight any idiot can do that it's the turns that show that you can "drive". That's partly why I created this thread because I would use some of the setting from this site and it seemed odd?? :odd: It didn't look that realistic or too easy for the rear to come out that kind of thing and the car would behave funny?

I feel like all you need is a **** load of camber and the rest is your skill after all people say you can drift any car even stock so why all the settings?

Anyway, I guess for me GT3 is replacing me trying to kill myself and my car trying to do the real thing out on the road so that's why I want it to be as close to "realistic" knowing that this is just a game. Oh and by the way I had my car a long time before this "drifting" caught on so no I didn't jump on the bandwagon.

Nick:banghead: :D

GT4 is supposed to be a lot more realistic than gt3. I read that they totally redid the physics and now the cars race within 1-2 seconds of their real life counterparts. Hopefully drifting will be the same.

Have you tried my settings? I found the same problem in that none of the settings I could find were realistic, so that's why I made my own, and I'd like to think they're fairly realistic. If you haven't tried, please do and let me know what you think.

Yeah, it's pretty close - particularly with the GT Force wheel. The effects of playing with suspension settings could be more realistic, but I suspect it's been simplied to keep it accessible.

The GT series always simulated the effects of weight transfer very well - one thing GT3 has addressed is the differing drive-trains. FF, FR, MR and 4WD are much more distinctly modelled this time.

One thing that would be good for GT4 would be the simulation of variable torque split AWD (ala Subaru and Skyline) - my Legacy/Liberty has it, so it should be variable in the game.

ive been drifting for years in real life and i still do it regulary

the reson most of the setting dont work for some of you is because THEY ARENT YOUR SETTINGS. come up with your own setting and you see that you have a different still than every one else. i pretty sure that you can find a trans that can add .001 to a gear maybe racing people have but if gran turismo is simulator there has to something out there that like it. and drfting is not about power its about skill.

humm you guys wanna know about GT4 then go buy the lastest issues of SUPER STREET and they interview the dude that makes Gran Turismo and talks about GT4 its so cool and man im so excited, i dont want to tell you all, u have to go read it and know it urself, plus GT4 is out in Winter 2003, get your moneys ready and save them ok!!!!

I went "Go Karting" and they put powder on the tracks for the sprint cars to drift, and I am surprised how well GT3's physics match up in Real Life. From my experience with the Go Kart and using the Force Feed Back wheel, I drove the Go Kart the same way I would in GT3 and it behaved the same way. It was so much fun!!!! Only if GT4 could simulate the sideways G-Force on our bodies to make the physics complete...not until a body suit is availiable....haha
