How is Assetto Corsa to play?

If you think that tires (sport), who do not give you a slight chance to correct a small mistake, like enlarge your line at the entry of a corner, or brake a couple of meters too late, produce a simulation of a real racing environment, is evident that you need, urgently, to do a deep reality check, like see some real life racing, or meditate about the mystery why people survive, for so many years, the school, and shopping, run, while using, even, less grippy tires (comfort) in their cars.

And I must advise you that, after around 20 years involved in real life racing (rally and hill-climb driver, race team member and director), is not to me that you will teach the difference between real life racing and gaming, no matter how much an experienced simmer you are.

I agree, and that's why I prefer AC and to some extent pCars. It should be "easy" to drive those cars at a fast pace for most simracers. Regardless of tires. One interesting thing I have noticed comparing GT6/iRacing/rF2 with AC is that you can apply real racing knowledge to AC. When I race in rF2, I'm usually among the slowest drivers there is. But in a similar type of race in AC I'm in the upper middle, racing the same people! Most mistakes are correctable and will only make you loose time. Not crash or spin like you're driving on ice.

That is my experience also. I liked and enjoyed GT5/6 and achieved Platinum in both. Assetto Corsa adds additional dimensions to the driving experience. I have fewer crashes but that doesn't make it easier, mistakes are measured in a few tenths but those tenths are very difficult to crawl back. Driving correctly and finding the fastest line through each corner is rewarded but the fastest AI make few mistakes so the pressure is on to drive right on the edge.

Can someone help me with setup of the DFGT with this game? I got the Logitech profiler downloaded and have set everything according to this page here, but I'm still getting full lock when I barely turn the wheel. Can't figure out what is going on.

Did you change this to 900?

Think I fixed it. Rotation was still set at 200 degrees in the profiler "Global Device Settings".

Edit: Now I just have to figure out the graphics settings and why it won't let me change the resolution. But it's midnight and I'm tired so I'll figure it out tomorrow. (or later today I guess :P)

This happened to me too as of a few days ago, where there should be resolution options there's now just a small, blank white box.

Same thing with my game. I just noticed the last couple days as well.

To anyone with the resolution issue and want to change it manually:

Go to Documents>Assetto Corsa>cfg and click on the cfg file called "video". Open it in Notepad or any word processor. Change the width and height to your preference.

That's bizarre. I could swear a looked at it a couple of days ago and it said 1920x1080 in the settings menu.

Last I checked mine was 5760x1080 and there was a long list of available resolutions. But I haven't checked in a while.

I like standard :)
Alright, wasn't sure if there was a preference. This game is no project cars in the graphics department, but it'll do. :)

Just did some laps at Monza in the SLS GT3, managed a 1:52.250 with stock settings. No idea if that's fast, but it sure was fun. :dopey:

Also, where do I start if I want to make my own liveries?

I have no idea, I prefer to stay on the track and have fun with physics ;)

You can change the effects while on the track using the menu on the right hand side. Just pick a few spots on the track and change the effects on the fly and it's much easier to figure out what you like. There are some "aftermarket" or modded sets of effects that are quite good as well. You'll find many of the here.

If you want to gauge your speed, download RSR Live Timing. It'll give you lap by lap leaderboard updates against everyone else that's run the same combo using the app. Of course not everyone is on there but all the popular combination have enough fast guys to give you an idea of what the potential of each combination is.

For liveries, A Guide to Skin Modding by Bailey should get your started.

Just remember, whenever you change any files in the game, it's always good to make a backup copy of the original just in case.

Trust me the graphics are very good. Just need tweaking, download the SweetFX graphics mod and follow instructions. Also, enable DSR in the NVidia Global settings, I use 4x and 33 % smoothing. You will be impressed!

Bold above requires an NVidia card, right?

Love that you can adjust the 'drivers eye' ingame. You can set the cockpit view just as you like. I mostly lower it a bit so i can see more of the dash and the wheel.

Question; what are the car/ track settings you guys mostly use? I put it on factory TC and ABS, Stability control off, cold tyres and i lower the track conditions from optimum to green, which i think makes it a lot more difficult to keep it on the road (maybe a bit too much?).

For the track I used green or optimum most of the time. I installed RSR Live Timing recently and all the best laps are under optimum conditions so that's what I use most often. For fun driving I usually original street rubber on street cars and medium hard rubber on race cars. TC, stability control always off, ABS on Factory, and I try to use the same shifting method as on the real car. If a car uses paddles, I will turn on autoblip and autoclutch and for a modern manual transmission I'll use autoblip but I still heel and toe.

You think optimum is realistic? I think i noticed setting it to green makes a big difference (AKA can you keep it on the road or not), and in real life a track will only rarely be in optimum conditions unless the temperature is high and lot's of cars laid rubber on the ideal line, which doesn't really happen when you're hotlapping alone :P.

I have a question. Is the 5.1 surround finally fixed? Last time I tried it (3rd of January according to Steam), it was still not working properly. Engine sounds came from front speakers on a mid/rear engine cars. It is beyond me how they call it a final version and still have holes like this in it. So again – is it fixed?

You think optimum is realistic?.

I think Optimum is realistic, but does it matter?
Everyone should use the setting that feel realistic to them, it is just great that we have different settings, and if this not enough, you can also change the grip factor in the INI file in the data/surface folder.
