How many cars has GT sold?

Prior to GT4, I had narrowed my new car search down to the Toyota Camry or Honda Accord. Now, I am including the Subaru Legacy GT - thanks strictly to the game!

ps. Years ago - I tried to buy a new Datsun 2000 (Fairlady 2000), but I couldn't get a loan approved since I hadn't yet established my credit. What a shame. At least I get to drive one now - thanks to GT4.

Pete.

I currently drive a Holden VYII SS utiility (SUV). Much like the Holden VYII SS Sedan in the game. But, since owning GT4, i am now trading it in for a Subaru Liberty (Legacy) GT wagon. Why? Cause i can :sly:

Ya, I alsmot bought a WRX because of GT3, but I decided that I liked V8's and rear wheel drive way to much to go for the subaru. Something about doing a burnout at a stoplight for no reason, or throttle steering through an intersection while making a ****load of thunder just never gets old. My dream car is a Z06 because it's my car times two.
Check the signature...

I recall PerfCar became Evo. Anyway, I'm broke these days. 2 car payments, mortgage, kid...

I don't think GT ever sold an American car. The Cam'ros and 'Stangs seemed to be at a disadvantage compared to the Evos and WRX's. Although my 2005 Mustang in GT4 kiks azz!

I have a 93 Legacy Turbo sedan, 5 speed, black and only 18psi right now.

I liked the viper before any GT game, or before I played any racing game with actual cars. The other car I want isn't in GT or any game that I know of.

Now that Focus RS8... Ford Racing makes a kit to turn the Focus from FF to FR. No factory effort for a complete car.
The RS8 was made to show case the new, expensive cammer engine. The kit Ford Racing sells is made by Kugel.

I bought my gt one because of the game...

now wheres that :rolleyes smilie :p

After two long years when I get the license, I will buy a Skyline R33. Don't really care about the engine, as long as it's an inline 6 :) Though that's just a dream, cause I'd have to win from lottery or something to get the money for one of those. Cause in here they cost a damn lot of money. A GT-R V-spec 16,400 euros. GTS-T MT5 10 000 euros... Damn. And those prices are in Germany, so plus the taxes, I'd say it's near 25- 30k euros. Oh boy...
And cause of GT2 I found a Civic SIRll. That's the other car I'd like to have.

I've played all the GT series and if I'd ever bought a car, the games might have had some influence, but not a lot. I'd still make my own mind up, but then I might check it out in GT, just to be sure that it doesn't go like a POS.

I ride a motorcycle. Cars are cool enough if you haven't got the bottle to sit out on top of your machine and lean it around corners and such. 4 wheels and a cage? Comfortable and convenient, but they're just holding you back :)

the gt series has made me realise how popular the skyline is in japan....

RUF, TVR, Pagani, Lister, Alfa Romeo, Vector and Venturi are makes that I knew little or nothing about before GT.

I knew about TVR, Pagani, Lister and Alfa before GT. TVR i knew about cause its one of the few English performance car makers. Pagani I knew about due to Top Gear or Fifth Gear (one of the two). Lister I knew from there Le Mans days (are they still doing Le Mans?) also they are English as well. And I knew about Alfa from there Touring car days.

Why do you think there's so much politics involved in the licensing of cars for GT? Not only has the game affected the sales of RL cars, but the manufacturers are aware of it. Why do you think the game has a Prius in it, anyway? There are several cars in there which simply are not race-worthy vehicles. In a big way, the game is devoted to promoting a love of cars... and not just the most exotic sporty ones.

A friend of mine bought a 3000GT directly because he liked it so much in the game. And I was driving a Corvette Grand Sport in the game before I had one in real life.

That doesn't mean we just went out and bought the real thing sight unseen based on experience with the game. But the simulation of these cars is so good that you can get a pretty good feel for what the RL car is like. And then you go check it out in RL... take it for a test drive... and it feels familiar already...

That's nothing short of amazing, I think. You can actually use the game to easily test drive a wide variety of cars without leaving your living room.

Beyond just purchasing the car... I test modifications I'm thinking of making to my RL corvette on the simulation of my car in Gran Turismo before I go ahead with them. I see what they make the car feel like. I check out what they do to lap times. Shift points. And again... when I make the mod in RL and drive it, the results are already familiar to me. I've already experienced them in the simulation.

Gran Turismo is definately a part of my amateur racing career in RL. And I credit the simulated 'seat time' I've gotten with the game with taking the championship trophy in my class on my rookie year in the real world. Practice in the game did translate directly to the real track.

I will probably buy my car based on how it feels on GT4 or 3 and that says alot about how valuable this game has become for the automobile industry. Alot of car makers have gained recogintion thanks to the game as well. Does Gran Turismo contribute to car selection...certainly 👍 But this doesn't mean that Polyphony should abuse its position and become a marketing portal for the BIG car companies (cough ...Ford...cough) :grumpy: I have sensed this has happened in GT4, but oh well, as long as they make the game better, it's ok :)

(Also, I think this thread is quite interesing and sheds some light on this gt4/carsales topic) Nice posts 👍

I'm kind of doing the reverse. I drive a WRX in real life and love it, but I'm using the game to drive all the dream cars I could only afford if I won the lottery :) I wish there were more Porsches in the game, though. I'm totally Jonesin' to drive the Ruf CTR. I used to have a copy of the C&D issue where they test drove and compared a bunch of production "supercars", and the "Yellow Bird" blew them all away, with a 3.9 sec 0-60 and a top speed of 211 MPH.

I've been looking at EVO's since playing GT4 and I never would have considered it before.

I was wondering how many of you, or people you know, have been influenced by a GT game to buy a car they wouldn't have bought otherwise.

When GT1 came out, I was looking for a car to buy, and as a result of playing the game, I bought myself a '91 Prelude VTEC. I would have never even known about the 'lude if it wasn't for GT.

I think this is interesting as it adds a whole new layer to the game developing process and to the dynamics of licensing; many manufacturers are already using custom GT versions to test drive and show off their cars.

Let's hear your experiences.

After playing GT1 within 2 months I bought a 3000GT VR4 (AKA "GTO Twin Turbo")because of what it was like in the game. Never regreted the decision...too bad I totalled it. :guilty: I really miss that car. I'd KILL to own a rare '97 4 Door R33 GT-R Skyline in yellow or white (I think it was a '97--anyone got any info?).

I drive an 02 wrx with a good amount of mods. About 300 bhp and lots of suspension stuff. I am against street racing but I attend local auto'x meets and do occasionly drive in teh canyons.

I would have never bought the car without playing GT. Im serious.

also, I havent been on this site in a long time, but im back now :dunce: 👍 :)

I own a PT Cruiser and have of course tried it in GT4 (and GT3). It's not a bad simulation of the car but some of the differences could be down to the one in the game being the US version. Until recently the European version was a 2.0 instead of a 2.4 and the US version seems to have slightly softer suspension.

I'm now looking at buying a Fiat Barchetta, so before test driving it in real life I tried it out in GT4. The behaviour in GT4 does seem to match what the reviewers in car mags say about it. Of course I'll know for myself soon!

I think GT4 brought a few cars to my attention that I'd not have thought of otherwise , so yes it increased my 'pick list' and my dream list, but I'm never going to buy without a drive first!

The GT series also made me look at some cars in anew light. For example the MX5 'hairdressers' car is actually a very nice drive!

Well I certainly learned a lot more about the legacy of the rotary engine from the GT series, and though I didn't buy my current car (Mazda RX-8) because of GT, it is kinda nice to be able to drive your baby around the track :)

This is great stuff to hear!! I can't believe how many of you found the similarity beetween GT4 and real life. So it is true.... these guys from PD really know what they are doing, and i can't tell you what a great news is to hear that the cars in game really does behave like in real life...
I really appreciate the effort they did in these 4 years... This bad AI thing and No damage does ruin the whole perspective, but, come on, people you gotta give those 50 euros just because one car really behaves like in real life, not to mention the other 749 cars!!!
I am glad that i bought PS2 just because of this game... 👍

What does that have to do with a manufacturer as underrepresented as Ford? Replace Ford with anything JDM and I agree 100%.

We can agree mostly 👍

I don't have anything against Ford and the cars are great to drive in the game, but I pointed out Ford because of all the Ford GTs. How many of these are prize cars....5! :dunce:

Professional:
Gran Turismo World Championship: 2004 Ford GT Le Mans Edition Spec-II

Extreme:
Premium Sports Lounge: 2005 Ford GT

Endurance:
Laguna Seca 200 Miles: 1969 Ford GT40 Le Mans Race Car
Infineon World Sport Car Trophy: 2002 Ford GT Le Mans Race Car

Special Conditions:
Tsukuba Circuit (Wet): 2002 Ford GT Concept

So overall in the % of cars in the game Ford is underrepresented, but in exposure as you try to win the game it is overrepresented. When you go through Extreme, Professional, and Endurance, you see this car in 4 prize spots (then once more in Special Conditions). So Ford must have payed alot to get that much exposure for the GT and Polyphony doesn't mind the pay.

My overall point is that PD should be careful with these sort of things, a couple more Ford GTs in the prize cars and it would've been called GranTurismo4, Ford GT Edition. :sly:

Maybe you have a different version than mine, I have NorthAmerica (aka almost FordGT Edition)

PS: There are 5 Skyline prize cars, 3 Subarus, 1 Lancer, and 3 Nissan Z s, so the Ford GT prize cars just felt kind of repetitive as I raced the Extreme, Prof, Endurance races. :guilty:

And when you trash it, it doesn't matter cuz it's a game.....:)

From everything I read, the Subaru WRX and WRX STi and the Lancer Evo's were brought to the US as a direct result of Gran Turismo making the US public aware of these cars. Also the Skyline would have never been big in the US if GT didn't let us know it existed.
I have also heard that Aston Martin's sales rose dramatically with the release of GT.

GT has done a lot for the car market, as is evident by BMW, Toyota, and Nissan using the game to demo new cars.

I'm into cars and tuning today because of GT1 and GT2 (I bought both when I bought my PS2 in early 2001).

I also had never heard of the Evo, Skyline, or WRX before I played GT1 and GT2.

I bet most people here have not seen the 2003/2004 Evo 8 borchure. It has many images from GT3. The brochure talks about GTs creator and shows the Evo in action in GT.

GT influenced me with cars big time. I had never paid attention to cars such as Imprezas, Evos, Skylines, etc....

My current car is below:

My prize car list has 9 skylines on it, and yes I have the North American version also. I agree you don’t need to win 5 Ford GTs.
bo do lot nu cao cap quan lot nam cao cap do nhiet do tam cho be vest cong so nu ao so mi nu trang phuc cuoi dep
They could have removed 1 or 2 GTs from the prize cars and the same 1 or 2 cars could have been removed from the game. But they could have removed 5 or 6 skylines from the prize cars and 40 could have been removed from the game. I just don’t see how you can pick on Ford when Nissan is 10 times worse.
